Dimensional asphalt shingles are usually multi layered with a thicker and richer appearance to give a multi- dimensional look. As opposed to strip shingles, dimensional shingles are usually heavier and carry a better warranty, the warranty is usually 30 years to lifetime. The difference in premium asphalt and dimensional shingles are that premium asphalt shingles are coated shingles that have a distinguished appearance or functionality and dimensional asphalt shingles do not. To have the old world look of shingles like shake or natural slate roofing you should use premium asphalt shingles. To extend the life of your roofing system, lower energy cost, have impact resistance, and have solar reflectivity all with a limited lifetime warranty you should use premium asphalt shingles.
