There is a debate on whether taking a stand or winning counts more. In contrary, some argue that winning is more important due to the fact that they have won something however, even though you may not win its best to show that you took a stand for what you believe in. For example, in a sporting event, the essential thing is not winning but to take a part and know that you gave it your all. In the end you'll be able to conclude that a person takes a stand through their courage, loyalty, and selflessness.
Courage has shown to be a main component of taking a stand. A person must have courage to take a stand for what they believe in or believe what is right. For example in the epic poem ''Beowulf'' Beowulf sailed to Denmark to face a creature in which he had no clue of hat it was or its capabilities. As It states in Beowulf, ''heard how Grendel filled the nights with horror and quickly commanded a boat fitted out'' (lns 112-113). The following evidence reveals how Beowulf took a stand by having the courage of going to Denmark to battle and defeat Grendel. Beowulf traveled to a region in which he is not familiar with however that didn't stop him from going to battle Grendel in his own turf. When the Danish people lost the courage to fight off Grendel, Beowulf took it upon himself to take a stand and defeat Grendel all by himself since no one else would.
