Research and Facts
The technological and science growth has been changing for as long as I could remember. It has been making changes day by day at such a rapid pace. With there being so many advancements and improvements made over time it is difficult to determine when had technology and science started. On the other hand, we do know it’s certain that technology was created in the prehistoric times. The reason why is that the history of technology is the history of the inventions of tools and techniques.
Tools and techniques were the only natural resources a normal man had and could make in the prehistoric times. Also much of technology is applied sciences, therefore we could say the history of science could have begun around the prehistoric times too. Since there is no accurate date of when the culture of science and technology had started. I will begin with the first popular sign of technology and science that was invented in the U.S.
In 1752, Benjamin Franklin had invented the lightning rod which was to assist with his electricity experiments. This led him to discover that he had just invented a conductor, for the lightning bolts he was trying to conduct from the sky. Then in 1776, David Bushnell was credited with creating the first submarine ever used in combat. He also called it the turtle because it looked like one. In 1790, the U.S had it’s a first patent invention which was made by William pollard. His invention roves and spins cotton.
In 1794, Eli Whitney had
When classical civilizations started to form, many developments in technology also began to develop. The Hans and the Romans are both examples of civilizations blossoming with technological advancements. Both the Han and Roman societies appreciated technology despite the differences in their societies. The Romans focused on advancements in math and science and the Hans appreciated labor based technologies that could help improve the work force in their society. Another document that could be helpful to a historian would be a document from the peasant class of either society.
Robert Fulton was an engineer and inventor who is credited with the first practical submarine. Another inventor was Humphry Davy who was chemist and inventor; he is best known for his discoveries of several alkali. Frederick Albert Winzer was one of the pioneers of gas lighting, he is also credited with the metronome. Richard Trevithick was an inventor who was credited with the locomotive.
Improvements in agriculture, transportation, and communication between 1790 and 1860 were the stepping stones for a greater America. From the cotton gin, to the steamboat, to the telegraph, new innovations were appearing all over. America had finally begun to spread its wings and fly.
People such as Benjamin Franklin, Eli Whitney, and Samuel F.B. Morse have made life changing moments in history. Franklin introduce the idea of electricity, with his more commonly known experiment the key and kite. Though Franklin only established a connection with lightning and electricity, it lead to greater discoveries. Such as the controversy, Tesla versus Edison, and alternating currents(AC) versus direct currents(DC). With all invention there is the common theme of aiding civilization; to make diffucult tasks simpler, but we can't always predict the outcomes.
submarine. This was invented by John Holland, an Irish American, he then sold it to the US Navy. The first submarine was the USS Holland in 1900. Holland’s invention included it to run on a gasoline internal combustion engine on the surface and electric batteries and motor under the water. The final example is the Model T Ford. The Model T was the first mass
Technology has definitely advanced through the years. A long time ago, things that fell under the category “technology” were a big stick of wood or big rock. Nowadays technology is things like electric cars and wireless headphones. People, as a species have evolved so much in admittedly not that long of a time. Imagine (if going back in time was possible) taking a cave-man to the present.
Through out the course of history technology goes through spurts of development. (Wikimedia Foundation, Inc., 2008) The stone age, bronze age, and iron age were the major eras of early technology. Many ancient civilizations such as
In his days Benjamin Franklin was the most innovative man on earth. In 1742, Franklin invented the Franklin Stove, a fireplace like invention that provided more heat than the average fireplace. In 1753, Franklin created the Lightning Rod. This Rod was very useful for houses.
JD Siemens Mr. Brinson History 17 April 2017 Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin was not just one of your ordinary founding fathers. He was renowned as a successful inventor, printer, scientist, politician, and diplomat. Benjamin Franklin’s long list of inventions includes bifocals, the lightning rod, the glass harmonica, a library chair, swim fins, a long-reach device, the Franklin stove, the catheter, and daylight saving time (Benjamin).
The history of science is often told as a series of eureka moments. The ultimate triumph of the rational mind. But a certain cultural background could have played equally significant parts. Take the history of Europe for example, it is until the end of Middle age that the science and technology started developing rapidly, which can be closely related to the great changes of culture during the period of The Renaissance. Here, I’d like to make a comparison between the period before and after The Renaissance to discuss how the cultural background will influence the development of science.
Most of inventions that we use in our daily life is based on 20th century. Of course in our time technology and science is far more developed however, to develop something you should invent it and that happened on 20th century. This developements are sometimes terrifying. When some device is too developed people are addicting to it e.g cell phone. It becomes a part of our life
Anything that has evolved over time is technology. One good example we don't really notice today, is a rocket ship. The first rocket ship to launch into space successfully was the V2 missile. Germany launched this missile in nineteen forty two. It has changed so much since then. The chinese also helped with the rockets. They made gunpowder, (some say it was an accident). Their gunpowder was made from sulfur, saltpepper, and charcoal dust. The first person to use propulsion, or the act of something moving forwards was Archytas. The next invention made with similar propulsion was in A.D 10. It was called the Hero Engine. It was invented by hero of Alexandria. This was just a toy, but it is now
The discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in the 1490s is a perfect example. “Many people believed that the world was flat and if they got to the edge they would fall off the Earth” but later with technology it was very easy for people to know that that’s impossible and that the Earth was spherical. This shows how technology has changed the way
As long as there have been people in this world, technology and science have existed. Technology is a powerful force which helped in the development of civilization and is a part of our system of culture that reflects its values. Technology has become very complex over the years and today it is known to be a social enterprise that includes all aspects such as research, design, finance, manufacturing, labor etc.
Science is an important part of our every day lives. We wake up each morning because we hear the ringing of our alarm clocks and turn on our faucets to wash our faces with warm water. We turn on the lights in our rooms to see our clothes and get dressed and we put our breakfast in the toaster and sip coffee from our mugs. All these things we do in the short time we are rushing to get ready for work or school, are due to the advancement of science and technology.
