Novel Theme Essay Michael Jordan once said, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” In order to achieve your goals, you must work for it and be determined to get them. You can stay home and dream about your goals, or you can go out and actually take a risk. This quote shows the theme of determination in Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls. The theme of determination is shown in section one of this book. On pages 20 through 21 when Billy worked consistently for two hard years collecting money to buy pups. This shows the theme of determination because Billy was determined to earn enough money to buy two coon hounds to hunt and play with. Furthermore, the theme of determination is shown on pages 27 through 28, when Billy went through a long, hard journey on foot to go get his dogs. This supports the theme because Billy was so determined to get those dogs, he was willing to journey on his bare feet to retrieve them. Billy’s determination in section one was crucial to him getting his dogs. …show more content…
One example is on page 94, when Billy worked his arms off trying to cut down a big sycamore tree with a coon in it. This supports the theme because Billy was determined to get this coon for his pups. His dogs found the coon and chased it up the tree, and he had to cut the tree down to keep up his end of the deal. He showed determination again on pages 115 through 119 when he worked very hard in the freezing cold to try and save Little Ann from the frozen river. This shows determination because Billy loved Little Ann, and was determined to save her. If Billy didn’t use determination, he would have never gotten his first coon skin, and Ann might have
Determination is defined by a firmness and resoluteness in purpose. This definition of determination has a deep presence in the memoir Rocket Boys, the story of a group of boys led by Homer Hickam Jr. and their adventures in science and exploring the world of rocketry to become the rays of hope in a dying coal town in West Virginia. Determination in Rocket Boys is presented through strong motivation, persevering through failures and setbacks, as well as characters stepping out of their comfort zones to rise up to the challenges they face.
I cannot remember the first time I read Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls. I read it at about age ten, and I have lost count of how many times I read it since. It was a period in my life when childhood was nearly over, but adolescence had not yet set in, and it was a time when animals were my greatest love.
(Chapter 8, paragraph 3), and “Our face was not like the faces of our brothers, for we felt no pity when looking upon it”. (Chapter 8, paragraph 6) are some examples of how the quote above exemplifies a theme. Also, it exemplifies a theme because he is his own person in the Uncharted Forest. “We thought suddenly that we could lie thus as long as we wished, and we laughed aloud at the thought.” (Chapter 8, paragraph 2), and “Our arms stretched out of their own will, and our body whirled and whirled, till it raised a wind to rustle through the leaves of the bushes” (Chapter 8, paragraph 2) are some examples of how he is his own person in the uncharted
The theme of this book Where The Red Fern Grows By wilson Rawls. This quote really shows how hard Billy works and how determined he is. “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” The professional athlete Pele said this about soccer but still ties in to my theme.
In the book Where The Red Fern Grows, the readers learn from Billy that perseverance to get something done pays off. In the first set of chapters Billy shows a lot of perseverance. One example is he had to get $50 for the pups he really wanted. The reason this shows perseverance is because it took him 2 years to get. Then after that he had to go all the way to Kentucky to get the pups.
I am Brandt Kringlie. I am a 7th grader at Wachter Middle School. I’m writing this letter to let you know that you should continue to make 7th grade students read Where the Red Fern Grows.
The boy’s determination shows when he looks non-stop for Sounder. This shows determination because the boy is relentless in his search for Sounder, searching every location, such as under the cabin. “Cobwebs drooped over his face and mouth. His mouth was so dry with dust that he could not spit
M!!Paulsen uses motifs to help understand and develop the theme. A motif is like a theme but is only a word of a few words. It is a reoccurring subject that comes up in many different stories, movies, or books. A motif is a recurrent symbol, idea, or image that develops or explains the theme. A motif from the book would be losing hope. When Gary Paulsen is getting his new canadian dogs for his Iditarod team, the dogs are not very happy and shred their kennels. “ The growl-howl from inside the camper was deafening. It sounded like someone was being torn apart.” (pg. 57) This quote is him losing hope because he is getting his new dogs for the Iditarod and they are tearing up the back of his camper. He is losing his hope for having them run in his sled team. The dogs, Ortho, Murphy, and Devil were vicious and feisty, “ they were no specific breed, but various mixes of
Missionary Library’s were finally built in Kenya. John took advantage of the free education and spent hours reading there. A problem he faced however was getting inside. He was so determined he waited in line for 2 hours. The library was so packed that each school had a specific day to come in. John has also got up before dawn just to do get inside before the rest of his school could. That’s what I call determination.
Have you ever heard the book or the movie called, “Where The Red Fern Grows.” In the book and the movie it is about a boy name Billy. He lives in the Ozark in a log cabin. When he ask for a prayer God accepts it. Billy has two dogs named, Little Ann and Old Dan. They do everything together.
Where the “Red Fern Grows” is a dramatic, sad book, and is about friendship till the end, so is “The Bridge to Terabithia”. The author to The Bridge to Terabithia is Katherine Paterson and the author to Where the Red Fern Grows is Wilson Rawls. The reason I chose the The Bridge to Terabithia is because it has an interesting name, and it says bridge in its name so I would think they leave the real world to have fun in Terabithia. The reason I chose Where the Red Fern grows is because it sounds like there is going to be and adventure the reason I think that is because it says where. They are both from the south with southern accents with lost friends.
This is a wise quote because when Billy got his dogs after working so hard to get them he knew that once he got the dogs he would remember how he got his dogs forever. That was one of the most important parts in the story and without them the story would be different. Since the part is in the story now the part makes a huge impact on the book and that is why that supports my quote and theme. In the story there were several moments that Billy would remember for the rest of his life . Billy had multiple lessons he had learned through the course of his life so far, and there will still be many more lessons to come.
Eddie Harris Jr. once said, “It takes a dream to get started, desire to keep going, and determination to finish.” This quote really reminds me of a song from Big Sean’s album Dark Sky Paradise. Many people said that this song will make you cry, but it teaches people a great life lesson about achieving dreams. The song is called, “One Man Can Change the World” by Big Sean and “it depicts a unique message to his fans about never giving up and making dreams come true.” (Cited from "Big Sean Gets Inspirational With Powerful 'One Man Can Change The World' Music Video." Hollywood Life.) This message is delivered through its syntax, tone, and diction.
Nobody can teach someone else how to grow up. It takes the individual to learn from life experiences on how to grow up. No matter all the talking you do, they must learn to do it on there own.
First, determination has an impact on the characters overcoming circumstances. Bethany Hamilton was determined to “relearn” surfing after losing an arm from a tragic shark attack all from the article, “Surfer Girl.” Determination helped Hamilton Persist to surf again, even with one arm and a grudge towards the ocean. The character Johnsy, from “The Last Leaf” was determined to change her attitude after realizing a leaf that she symbolized as her life had stayed, which
