In recent discussions about college, a controversial issue has been the great amount of student debt owed by students. Hence, many students have opted to not go to college because they do not have the money to pay their student loan debts. In the essay“A Lifetime of Student Debt? Not Likely,” Robin Wilson argues that graduating college with student loan debts is a still better option than not attending college. On the other hand, other people contends that people should not go to college because they will end up in debt for the rest of their lives. My own view is that college is still a worthwhile investment that everyone should seek regardless of the debts they have to pay in the future. In other words, people should go to college. My

College debt has risen significantly since “The Great Recession” in 2009. Due to the high college fees, students are faced with lifelong debt. If the rise continues, only the rich will be able to obtain a higher education, resulting in American education to take several steps backwards instead of improving. Although many have tried to fix college debt problem, it has mostly gone unnoticed. Specifically targeting the nation’s youth, college debt is destroying the chances of the lasting effects on the economy from fully recovering.

In our society today, college is something that one is looked upon to do. Today our society is mostly looked at by our education level rather than who the person truly is. Now society is also looking at this generation for us to know that to succeed, one might set high goals for their self, which means going to college and pursing a degree. On the other hand, there are some people in this world that graduated from high school and have never been to college and are just happy with their life like it is. There are two ways to look at this topic. One is that college is worth the cost and another view is that college is not worth the cost at all. College is worth the cost. Even though tuitiion costs have raised by almost 50% over the course of 30 years people still argue that college is still worth the price. One supporting reason that will always apply to this argument is, the fact that college graduates earn more money and have a much easier time finding employment than their peers who only have a highschool diploma. For some people the number 1 reason to go to college is to go away/move to a new location. Some may want to just escape the cold and move down south, others may want to get out of small towns and explore the world. College can still be worth it for many people when they are deciding on their future path. College doesn’t have to be very expensive, there are many scholarships that students can apply for to help reduce the cost. Also, having a college degree will allow the person to have the option for career changes in their lifetime. Some colleges offer work co-op programs,an internship, where the person can get a degree, learn their skill, and make money. This allows them to feel more comfortable in their field, and it helps to eliminate some of their student debt. These are just a few of the reasons why college can still be very beneficial to people, and why college can still be worth it for many people.

The Case Against College, a paper written by Linda Lee, talks about the disadvantages of college, and how she doesn’t believe that college is worth it. She provides many good points pertaining to why she believes college isn’t worth it, such as providing statistics of the amount of people who get bachelor degrees or higher. She explains that as her son was going to college, she soon asked herself if he was really getting $1,000 a week's worth of education. Although Linda Lee has many good points, I would have to disagree with her about how college isn’t necessary. College shouldn’t just be seen as going to learn, it is also a big experience.

Many arguments for why college isn't right for the average study arise due to the rising college debt of over 1 trillion. But is college really that bad? I argue it only matters for some people and not all.

Although college has a tremendous value, for some of us we see value as a contrived concept, in that respect going to college just to accumulate thousands of dollars in debt is arbitrary. What these people don’t realize is that 44 million people in the USA have student loan debt, each with an average debt of $37,172, if you aren't accumulating thousands of dollars of debt you are outside of a trend, therefore you are a loser. Given this fact why would you ever consider any other possibility than going to college, graduating, and grinding away at your debt? You might think you are going to be miserable in college, and that misery breeds failure, but I’m here to tell you that if you don’t have thousands of dollars in debt you will look at your at your friends who do with envy. Yes, you could travel the world for a year or more, but why would you do something so stupid, reckless, or even life-changing, when you could be stuck in a job grinding away at unbearable debt. Forget about passion, that’s childish, gather all your friends and jump off the student debt bridge.
