My freshman year in college has been an amazing new experience for me, and I greatly appreciate the opportunities the Theodore Batterman Scholarship has afforded me. The transition from high school to the University of Wisconsin Whitewater was surprisingly smooth, and I quickly acclimated to college life. I was a part of the cross-country team from August to November, and had a great time traveling to surrounding areas to compete in races. Academically, I managed to make the Dean’s List for both the fall and spring semesters. During both semesters, I began to take introductory business courses, including micro-economics, financial accounting, and business writing. Living in the dorms was also an experience that I am glad I got to have. Some
On July 6, 1999 a future Clemson Tiger was born, me. As the son of two Clemson alumni, it has been the overall goal of my life to attend the beloved Clemson University and follow my parents’ legacy. Experiencing football and baseball games, caressing Howard’s Rock, and making many everlasting memories has enticed me since I was a young boy. I have considered the university to be my number one choice when picking my future college since the first time I stepped foot on the campus. Knowing that I was initially not accepted into the undergraduate program urges me to prove myself and show the staff of Clemson all that I can bring to better further the reputation of the university. I have worked extremely hard to get to where I am today, but all I can do is get better and I will do whatever it takes to help guarantee my success as a student at Clemson University. I intend to live on campus to help ensure exemplary grades, attend all classes whether attendance is mandatory or optional, and lastly, I have an strong and supportive family of successful alumni to push me to be a prosperous student. My family deeply believes in a Clemson education over another because it has enabled them to be successful in the business world and obtain the high ranking positions in their companies that they possess today. Their success with their Clemson degrees inspire me to obtaining the cherished honor of a Clemson graduate and grow the highly respected reputation of a
FHSU’s small class sizes provide a great setting for more interaction and the opportunity for me to enhance my communication skills; communication skills are essential to a sports organization’s front office. Additionally, I plan to gain exposure to FHSU athletic department’s business model either as an extension to my coursework or because an athletic director is supportive of my aspiration. Another avenue to understanding a business is through student club participation. Clubs have many attributes of a business and are on a smaller scale where I can see how decisions impact its success. FHSU’s student clubs also are known for giving back to the Hays community, and volunteering in my community is an important value to me now and will be in ten
This experience has provided me the opportunity to speak with CEOs, finance executives, CPAs, entrepreneurs, politicians, lawyers, and more that have spoken at club gatherings. I obtained valuable insight on the rewards and challenges of these careers, as well as priceless advice on the best route to success in all those professions and things to avoid doing. I was even able to gain tips about transitioning to the UC system from those who’ve graduated from a UC. I have also taken part in numerous trips to different University of California campuses and have met and received advice from transfer students from NVC. That advice ranges from services offered at their school’s transfer centers, managing the quarter system, how to prepare for finals week at the UC level and more. Taking advantage of resources such as these during my time at NVC has played an instrumental role in preparing me for my major and the rigors of the upper division courses that await me at the University of

Soon, I was unpacking my items into one of the hundreds or maybe even thousands of SUNY Oswego dorms. When I entered room four twenty-four sudden shock hit me. I thought, “I have to live in this for the next year?!” I was startled and felt the need to back away from this “prison-like” room. I remember my favorite part of the college tours was when they showed us the dorms. I would
After coming to tour the campus I really started to fall in love with the Kansas state atmosphere and knew it was the right place for me. I started looking for roommates shortly after and found three that I
Last year I had the tremendous opportunity to receive the O’Brate Scholarship and it has indubitably influenced my college experience for the better. Let me tell you, college courses are a completely different ball game than those given at high school: with that being said, no longer was just going to class and listening to the instructor enough to get an A in the class. It required me to approach this new study regime with a more methodical and effective form of work and study. Practice and time has proven key to succeeding in the college world, but it doesn’t and shouldn’t take away the significance of being financially covered and stable throughout the year. The O’Brate Scholarship has been a pivotal component into making my college transition
As a transfer student at Texas A&M, I demonstrate what determination and hard work stands for through staying self-motivated to attend my dream school. Prior to the start of my education, my family and I moved to this country in hopes of escaping crime and violence, seeking opportunities and freedom. I was able to undertake my own opportunities and enrolled at a community college while also working a full time job in an effort to pursue my dream of attending Mays Business School. Every year, thousands of students apply to Mays; however, Texas A&M only accepts 100 candidates to attend their business school. Because of this transfer process, I have become a motivated, persistent and dynamic individual who strives for success.

While I have had a great experience so far at Elizabethtown College, I now know more than ever that to reach my full potential I need to step outside my comfort zone and move to a larger, more diverse campus. Because of the Malcom Wesley Myers and Anna Geary Myers Scholarship I can make my dream of going to a larger school like the University of Delaware a reality. For my future career in marketing and communications, receiving an excellent college education is necessary to be a competitive candidate for jobs in the future. This is why this scholarship is so important to me, so that I can lead a successful life in my future career and not have to worry about the debt that most students are facing as they graduate from
As my senior year comes around, it has become more real to me that I have to take charge of my future. I deserve and need this scholarship just as I need oxygen to breathe. Being the first in my family to attend college or even have the idea in their head means I’m on my own to discover what to do to get into college and how to come up with the means. I
Despite the aforesaid I was determined to brake the chains that society had placed upon me, and apply to colleges. Upon receiving my acceptance letter to Rutgers University I vowed to make the most of any opportunity that became accessible to me and I started with my undergraduate career. Last May I graduated cum laude from Rutgers University. While enrolled I lead, governed and regulated a myriad of organizations and attained numerous high titles. I
