In the book The Hate List by Jennifer Brown, the story is told from the point of view of Valerie Leftman, the girlfriend of Nick Levil. Nick shot multiple people in their school and injured more. Valerie unknowingly helped him create the list of victims. I think the book could have been as interesting if it was told from the point of view of Ginny Baker. Ginny Baker was shot by Nick in the face. She had to have multiple plastic surgeries to reconstruct something that even remotely resembled a face. “’I can’t sit here without thinking about… about…’ she sucked in a breath and then let it out with a stream an anguish that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. ‘Why did they let her come back?’” (Brown 69). Ginny is traumatized by the
In the beginning the class we were assigned groups and as a whole we had to find the literal point or subject of the readings that were due for the day and relate them to identity, attitude, or prejudice. This was to allow us to prepare to write our second major essay we had for writing 1. We were assigned the Andrew Sullivan readings, “what’s so bad about hate?”. The short excerpt from the article stated various situations in which the actions were categorized as a regular crime or a hate crime. The author then continued to discuss how adding a hate crime just complicates the verdict because no one except the individual knows why they committed the crime. Throughout the reading as a group we categorized the reading as one of identity. Everyone
Throughout life, people face many dilemmas, when they overcome these obstacles they portray part of their personality. This is seen in the novel Hate List, as Valerie is being judged, tormented, and degraded by people in her town after the shooting in Galvin High. She is determined to put the past behind her and learn new traits about herself she never knew of. A theme that is shown in the novel Hate List, written by Jennifer Brown is, a person’s emotions and thoughts can be faltered depending on how they respond to the conflict they have come across. In the novel, Hate List, after the shooting Valerie Leftman felt overwhelmed she wanted to forget the shooting and help others by painting and speaking her emotions.
Racism is one of the biggest problems today. As we look back, a considerable measure of our history is based on racial discrimination, hatred, and African Americans being treated as slaves. The Shadow of Hate revolves around a history of intolerance in America, and how the origins of race affected American people. The Shadow of Hate was an eye opener as it shows how the native Americans, Japanese Americans, African Americans, Jews, and Hispanics were treated back in the days. In this paper, I am going to summarize the documentary and compose my perspectives on what I think about it.
Hate crimes has become an increasing problem here in the united states ranging from racial hatred to gender discrimination but what are hate crimes? According to Dr. Jack McDevitt, a criminologist at Northeastern University in Boston Hate crimes are message crimes, Hate crimes are defined as crimes that are violent act against people, property, or organizations because of the group to which they belong or identify with. The coined term “hate crimes” was first used No matter how many different definitions there are for hate crimes but we all can agree that hate crimes are wrong and immoral. Since the election of Donald Trump, the country seems to be in a state of division. Protests against the president’s executive orders and movements like Black Lives Matter has caused many hate groups to make a reappearance into the main-stream media. White supremacist, white nationalists, and alt-right leaders are speaking their minds about the perceived discrimination against whites. These types of white advocacy groups have gone through an evolution since the times of the Ku Klux Klan and have created new techniques for recruiting members. These units can be a type of love/hate relationship, and once people have joined, they find it very difficult to leave. But hate can be overcome; through education, tolerance training, and even counter-protesting. Because of feelings of discontent, fear in the loss of white power, and a lack of experience with groups outside of their race, America is seeing a dangerous and unfortunate rise in these types of hate groups.
<br>Right now, there are many active hate groups in the United States such as the Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazi, Skinheads, Christian identity, Black Separatists, etc. These hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan, which is one of America's oldest and more feared, use violence and move above the law to promote their different causes. Another example is a group called Christian Identity, who describes a religion that is fundamentally racist and anti-Semitic; and other are the Black Separatist groups, who are organizations whose ideologies include tenets of racially based hatred. Because of the information gathered by the Intelligence Project from hate groups' publications, citizen's reports, law enforcement agencies, field
Confucius once explain that, "An Oppressive government is to be feared more than a tiger". Ideally, a political system that has been formed on hatred and torment is a system that will be feared enough to be followed, but not forever. George Orwell 's 1984 was published in 1949 during the heated conflict of Word War II and consists of a government known as the Party which symbolizes the totalitarian governments of the war. This fictional novel depicts Orwell 's hypothesis of what the world would eventually be like if the totalitarianistic governments of his time we 're not abolished. The novel itself does not clarify the fall of the hate-driven Party, but the appendix describes the eventual death of this government. Much like Nazi Germany and Communist Russia of World War II, the Party is fictional proof that a government developed off of hate and fear would become painfully immoral and inhumane but would never infinitely survive.
The author of Hate List, Jennifer Brown, used many interesting writing techniques to add a unique touch to the novel. The novel is about a girl named Valerie Leftman who must deal with the aftermath of a school shooting that her boyfriend, Nick Vel, caused. Before the shooting occurred Nick and Valerie had a list of people they hated called the Hate List. Unfortunately, this was the list that Nick used that day to pick his victims. Although she wasn’t the one pulling the trigger, Valerie had some contribution to the shooting due to the list. This causes her to have grudges going back to school and trying to fit in with the crowd.

In the novel Hate List, by Jennifer Brown, was about a sixteen year old girl named Valerie. She lived with her mom, dad, and younger brother Frankie. Valerie also had a boyfriend named Nick, and they had typical high school problems. Nick was bullied because of how poor he was, and Valerie was also bullied because she dressed goth and was different than the other girls. The bullies called her, “Sister Death.” Out of anger Nick and Valerie therapeutically created a “Hate List” which was a list of names of people who made them angry, jealous, and scared. Little did Valerie know her boyfriend would open fire at school targeting the names on that list. It started when Christy Bruter, one of the bullies, broke Valerie’s MP3 player. Furious, she called Nick and told

Always been a New York fan since I was a young kid. I remember seeing the Knicks play at my first NBA game; it was at the Bulls game. I was really attracted to the colors of teams especially the Yankees pinstriped jerseys. The Giants blue, red, and white jerseys also caught my attention.
Supremacy : the state of condition of being superior to all others in authority, power, or status. Why is this so important? I’ll tell you why, the supremacy of many “ Hate Groups “ such as the KKK ( Ku Klux Klan ) or any other hate group has been affecting many lives of U.S. citizens such as the African Americans. Based off the murder case of James Byrd Jr., he was tricked, beaten, and horrifically chained and dragged by a truck filled with three white supremacists. Given the circumstances in the nation today and our recent Charlottesville protest, America hasn’t changed much. It has been quiet since Mr. Byrd’s death in 1998 and not only til 19 years later do we have hate groups such as the Nazi coming out marching in Charlottesville. Hate
What do the words Cracker, Kike, Nigger, Jap, Chinc, Faggot, Queer, Dike and Spic all have in common? They are all derogatory remarks that humans call one another on a daily basis. Why can people use these terms and not have to worry about receiving any punishment or any ridicule? The reason is because of the First Amendment right of free speech. The first amendment gives people the right to basically say anything that comes to mind whether it is something nice or something like a derogatory remark. The first amendment is good and freedom of speech has its advantages like most things, but however, it also has its disadvantages. The disadvantages are that people can say words that are extremely hurtful
Reporting on hate rallies, is absolutely necessary because as Yasmin commented, it is newsworthy. If events such as these were not handled by the media, they would either go unnoticed by the public, or their representation would be handled solely by the hate group. Additionally, satire is effective to some degree in pointing out the flaws of these groups, but may not reach everyone in the audience. Some may prefer presenting the news seriously and unbiased. This allows for the facts to speak for themselves, giving the reader/viewer the ability to make their own judgement. Hatred is clearly hatred, and regardless of how far humanity advances it will always be present. Therefore, the best method to deal with it is to expose it, rather than ignore
