Think Before You Act

“Some people come into our lives as blessings. Others come into our lives as lessons.” This statement influenced by Mother Teresa speaks of people, and how people can come into our lives and flip our world upside down. They can influence our life and our feelings and help us see the world as something new. Almost as if we are told, does your life end tomorrow? From the two books we’ve read, The Five People You Meet in Heaven and Tuesdays with Morrie, it is possible that today, tomorrow or a week from now could be our last day on the planet. Explained: When people understand that death will occur, then they will spend there life doing things with meaning and not walking around half-asleep. Then, they will learn they only have a specific time to live so they should live life to the fullest and do things that are enjoyable.

There is one thing in this world that no one can escape, that everyone fears, and makes people who are close to that person miserable, and that is death. Death is the worst thing that can ever happen to a person, and is just as bad for the people who are close to them. There is an emptiness that comes with the death of a loved one or someone close. That blankness in the world does something to the people who encompass that person who passed. It changes people, whether it is for better or worse. Death is a part of life and depending on how people are affected can dictate whether it will leave a positive or negative change to their life and that conversion happened to me with the death of my mother, Fran.

It is inevitable that we will all die it is a fact that everyone must come to terms with. There comes a time in everyone’s life that they must face death; a friend’s tragic accident, a family member’s passing or their own battles with diseases. When faced with the idea of death people will act in different ways some may find it therapeutic to apologize for the negative they have done, some may want to spend time with loved ones to ease the future pain, and others may decide that their life was not what they believed. “Mommy, when will I die?” I can still hear my 4-year old’s little voice asking me this question from the backseat as I am driving. How do I answer her? Do I tell her the truth? Do I lie to her? How do I explain death to a 4-year-old? For her, this question was out of curiosity not fear. For me, this was the most gut wrenching question I had ever been asked. This made me think about what I would do if my mother died. I believe I would probably be very sad, but I would also keep moving in life. Because it is just life, and we will all get through it eventually. Even if it takes us into the next life. A problem in life is acting without thinking. A hunter does not shoot a gun without aiming, yet most of the time, the same person acts without thinking. Complications with not thinking can be getting into trouble without meaning to, changing how others think of you or causing others to suffer, mentally or physically. Yet, society still does not think about their actions and how people affect others. In the future, people will start to be considerate about what they do.

Unfortunately, many situations we must face in life are like this. People are not always around to help us through hard times, and most tragedies, such as death, are obstacles that we must overcome individually. As described in the poem though, death is an inevitability that we cannot change, and therefore should not deter us from our path. We must learn to deal with tragedies such as death, as they are unavoidable. These events do have an everlasting effect on us, but they should

Everyone knows that they are going to die eventually, but it’s what people do in between the time they open their eyes and when they close them that__________? Matters? Is important?. Life is full of trials; try and fail. People find things they love to do and they find things they don’t. When they find it their purpose, they master it. The pleasure of working towards fulfilling a purpose That pleasure is happiness and that is what life is for. To be happy, not in an immoral way but by doing what we love. You live your life life and think, “I’m glad that’s not happening to me” Or “What would I be doing if that was me in that position?” I often think that every time I see something tragic happen around the world. It always runs through my mind that it’s impossible for something to ever happen to the small town that I am from, St. Amant, La. How could anything go wrong here? We are barely on the maps. Or so I thought. Never would I would have imagined what I witnessed within the last month. I saw acts that I never thought my eyes see, smells I thought my nose would never smell, and heartbreak I never thought I would feel internally.

A certain event I experienced, helped me to realize that I was taking life for granted. An Apache name for this place would be, Windy Cliff Where Ashes Blow into Crashing Waters. When I was around the age of five, I attended a funeral. This funeral was for my grandma. At that time in my life I had not experienced the loss of someone close to me or anything else related to death. This funeral was held at the Marin Headlands(Windy cliff where ashes blow into crashing waters) at the top of a cliff on the edge of a hiking trail, where we scattered my grandmas ashes into the ocean beneath us. After releasing her remains into the ocean, we had a picnic to memorialize her. Throughout most of the funeral I didn't feel sad, I felt no sign of grief until our family started memorializing her. I began to think of all the nice things she did for me and my sister. She helped teach us how to bake amazing cookies, she taught us how to sew unique quilts, she would also take us to the store to buy us our favorite strawberry candy. When remembering these things I then realized I will never be able to do these activities with her again. I then began to feel sad and I began to grief. This loss in my life was my first experience with death and it helped me to understand the value of human life. This event taught me that death can impact humans greatly, that grieving is natural, and our lives will be remembered

Some people don't realize how simple, yet complicated life is, that the point of it is not to ‘lose or win or become successful', but to die knowing that you have lived your life to the maximum and get the satisfaction from that. That you have created and destroyed, that you lived and the sun shone on you, and most importantly, that you left a footprint behind you.

It is unbelievable how we take things for granted. Plans are made for each day, and we do not think twice about those plans. Unfortunately, they can change in the blink of an eye. I never personally thought much about it, until I was faced with the shock and tragedy of the death
