Introduction
I chose to do my multi genre project on the Twenties. The Twenties have also interested me and that unit was by far my favorite this semester, so it only seemed right to go deeper into and expand my learning on it even more. To portray the different changes and new inventions that came about during this era, I did a drawing. In my drawing, there is a young flapper girl and a large thought bubble. Inside this bubble, it shows her reflecting on what has happened during the past ten years.
Thought Bubble Content Explanation
Many important milestones such as Prohibition (the 18th amendment), Women’s Suffrage (the 19th amendment), and the Stock Market Crash in 1929. I chose to portray Prohibition by having a beer bottle tipped over

Despite them looking out of place, these components of the thought bubble actually have deeper meanings. The arrow signifies the migration north (hence it pointing up (north)) that many people, especially African Americans, took during this time period. The cross with the word “Science” on it is meant to symbolize the social battle between science and religion at the time. Many people were drifting from depending on religion and basing everything off of it, to considering things with the mindset of science. The light bulb was an important part of the drawing due to it representing the widespread use of electricity in everyday and domestic lives. Many inventions of the era and popular activities were possible because of electricity. The plus sign with the “$” on it shows that there was an increase in the economy and amount of money spent during this …show more content…
To start with, the Flapper girl (in the lower left corner) was a major iconic figure during this period. Flappers were women who went against the normality and did not so “lady like” things. Many of them did this as self expression and to get there point across. Others did this to join the movement and be rebellious. Across the top of the paper, there is a border that looks like an old film reel that is unraveled and the tape is out. This movie reel tape is supposed to represent the increase and popularity found in movies and acting. It was a form of entertainment, as well as a hobby for some. Also to go along with the theme of acting and movies, in the title, the “20’s” is red like a stage curtain and has yellow circles which are meant to look like dressing room lights. Another hint about the title, is that to show the main focus and topic of the drawing. It is also in bold/ fun colors because that’s exactly what the Roaring 20’s were; bold and
Many of the trends from the Roaring Twenties were set or seen at the parties thrown by the rich such as Gatsby did in the novel. Many of the trends were fashion, especially women, music, and dances. Fashion had changed a lot after and during the war. Dress making and custom styles were beginning to break out. New textures and patterns created the 1920’s style. For women many more options were now acceptable. A daring new style of skirts and dresses worn above the knee were popular. “1920's Dresses were lighter and brighter and shorter than ever before” (1920's Womens Fashion). Jewelry and many other embellishments were added now more than ever. “An increased sense of freedom was expressed in simple yet elegant designs, with carefully selected fabrics, and an intelligent use of color” (1920's Womens Fashion).
The 1920s was a major turning point in American history. Known as “the roaring twenties”, the citizens of the United States enjoyed the new found wealth from the economic turnaround. The United States’ wealth more than doubled as the nation turned into a consumer society. Not all Americans were fond of the changes in society, and not all of the changes were good.
The 1920’s, also known as the “Jazz Age” or the “Roaring Twenties”, was a time of decadence. The “Roaring Twenties” was common with constant variation in diplomatic, ethnic, and religious standards. F. Scott Fitzgerald uses The Great Gatsby as an account for the unstable time of egotistic pursuits of wealth and satisfaction.
One of the most significant events in the history of America was the American Revolution. It was not so significant because of the number of deaths or the affects it had on America's relationship with Great Britain, but more because of the changes it caused in society socially, economically, and politically.
In the 1920’s, America went through a series of political, social, and economic changes. This was the decade known as the Roaring Twenties, where most Americans lived in cities and lived a consumer lifestyle, while the total wealth of the nation doubled. The name “Roaring Twenties” also held several other different meanings, including a reference to jazz and the rebellious nature of the younger generation. The Roaring Twenties not only was a decade of boom and determination for America, but it additionally represented the biggest shift from a traditional culture to a modern one.
In the two hundred and forty-one years that the United States has been a nation, many important events have occurred. The American Revolution, the Constitution, and the Civil War being some of the most influential. Within each of these times there were significant events that helped to make the meaningful occurrences monumental.
The American Revolution. A turning point for our country. We said we were ready to be our own country, we said we didn’t need a babysitter, they didn’t listen, and they found out in some unexpected ways just how ready we were.
Financial Assets: Robert Shiller, a Noble Prize winner in Economics, has the belief that our cultural and psychological thoughts influence our financial behavior. Shiller highlights the key factors of the irrational exuberance that exists in the financial market. In his book, Irrational Exuberance, he argues that investors often make irrational decisions. Throughout the book, he explains that there are twelve factors that impact the market behavior from 1995 to 2005 and that eventually led to a financial bubble. Some of these factors can be linked to the Black Thursday of 1929.
There has been many significant events that has happened between the years of 1860 and 1914. Some of these accomplishments and failures are very vital to history. Three important events that has happened in that time period would be: Susan B. Anthony & Elizabeth Cady Stanton becoming co leaders of the women’s rights movement, The 13th amendment being ratified, and W.E.B DuBois published his influential books of essays. These three events are the most important because women’s rights gave a lot of women freedom to do the things they wanted to do, W.E.B DuBois helped spread very vital books which spread influential words, and lastly the 13th amendment helped outlaw slavery in some places.
The title chosen for the chapter is very interesting. For example the title is The Dinner. It may sound like it has very little to do with the history of America however, it is very important. It has to do with a major compromise. Without it America would probably not be the republic it is today. Therefore it is also a political event that helped shape America.
My 5 significant events i have chosen for my Canada 150 is Canada Elections Act, The stock market crash, Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission, The adoption of the new flag, and Canadian Bill of Rights and freedoms . And My top 3 hits i will be talking about later are about The Canadian Charter of Rights, Viola Desmond , and Agnes Macphail
WWI had just ended, and everyone was ready to rebel. Women destroyed their old image. Women and men during prohibition increased alcohol consumption through speakeasies. New inventions were created and changed America’s lifestyle. Consumers gambled fake money when buying on margin and watched the stock market crash, leading to the Great Depression. Compared to other decades, revolutionary changes happened during the Roaring 20’s.
History is filled with turning points. They represent changes for the better or the worse for politics, religion, society, and even culture. The Ratification of the Constitution was a major turning point for American History.
My timeline consisted of several, very monumental events that shaped the nation. They each played a critical role in the development of the United States. The founding of Plymouth was important because it introduced self-government and religious freedom and because of this the U.S. celebrates Thanksgiving. It is day where many people give thanks and praise. The Salem Witch Trials for one changed the Massachusetts court of law. The Boston Massacre displayed resiliency among the colonists revolting against the British. Lewis and Clark expedition opened the doors for Westward expansion. Trail of Tears devastated a mass population of the Native American population. The Civil War abolished slavery and changed the North and South of the U.S. The
