The massive debt of the French and Indian war was a very big struggle for Great Britain and the massive debt will start the revolutionary war. The massive debt happened right after the French and Indian war. Great Britain was 122 million pounds in debt. That is why they tried to tax the colonies. The taxes were called acts. This payed off part of the debt but the taxing didn't come to a pleasant end for Great Britain.

From a British economic standpoint, the French and Indian War, in addition to the Seven Years War, plunged them further and further into a seemingly endless mountain of debt. The British government raised taxes to support the Revolutionary War. The British government created a law called the Stamp Act of 1765, where they started taxing food. As people started buying food, the taxes went up, but surprisingly the British government still didn't have enough money to support the war.

Thus, this triggered Britain to start economic competition with France in Europe. Since there were limited resources, Britain chose to tax the colonists to tighten its administration in North America. The Parliament said that, “The cost of administering the North American colonies alone rose to $135,000 a year in 1763 - five times what it had cost in 1756”. With the debt of the Seven Year War and many others from previous fights, and with the suspicion coming from other European countries concerning its weakening economy, the British government needed to collect more taxes to manage its empire that got tripled in debts during these years.

As our discussion post provided this week, the colonists responded with rebellion because of the new acts that were imposed upon them by the British (Schultz, K., 2013). Their attempt to reform the American colonies contributed to the growth of the Revolutionary movement because the British tried to enforce stricter policies and laws (Schultz, K. M., 2013). The British wanted to tighten the policies over the colonial officials so that it would reduce the corruption, the British wanted control over the area of land that the settlers occupied, and they wanted to raise revenue by taxing goods. Although the British were adamant about their purpose, the colonist believed that rebelling against them would help in receiving their independence.

There are a few events in United States history that are dubbed as major turning points. The French and Indian War was a watershed moment in history, as it changed the balance of power in North America, the Native American alliances, gave the colonists a false sense of equal partnership with Great Britain, and eventually led to the Revolutionary War. The French and Indian War shifted the control of North America almost entirely into England’s hands. The 1763 Treaty of Paris gave Great Britain all of Canada and everything East of the Mississippi River.

On 1773 three years later from the boston tea party Lord North thought the Boston tea party went too far and king George agreed. So they put a new law into place that limited the colonists and what they could do. This happened because the colonists threw taxed tea into the harbor because it was taxation without representation.This helped start the develop the Revolutionary war.

There were multiple causes that eventually lead to the American Revolution. But there were three main causes that helped the revolution begin, the acts and civil rights, the battles and the Declaration of Independence.

Before the war had officially begun, England was in great debt from the seven years war. To pay off the debt the colonists were required to pay extra taxes to help in a war fought to protect them. Also, they were paying a smaller percentage of what citizens in England were paying. They had to only pay 25% of what the subjects in Britain were paying. That means that for every one hundred pounds that England paid, the colonists only had to pay twenty five. The king purposely did this knowing that the colonists in America didn’t have as much money as the English citizens.

After the end of the French and Indian War in 1763 the American people had taxes placed on them by the British. The British Parliament claimed that by placing the taxes they were defending the colonies for the Americans. During the twelve years following the war, the British enacted a numerous amount of taxes that allowed them to raise revenue from the American economy. This taxing of the American people hurt the American economy and started to push the American colonists toward an independence movement so they could have a free economy. Over the course of the twelve-year period there were six acts enacted to take money from the American economy.

The first colonists arrived in the early 1600’s. As generations of colonists grew up in the new world they began to think of themselves as Americans rather than English citizens. In this same time period England began to think of the colonists as subjects rather than English citizens. This lack of respect for each other lead to distrust and the feeling of resentment, blaming each other for their troubles. The English blamed the Colonists for the cost of defending Britain’s interests in the new world and protection against invaders. On the other hand, the colonists felt the taxes imposed on them were excessive and used to pay off all of England’s debts, not just the ones rightfully owed for their defense.
