I think Cole is changing because of three different reasons. He is learning how he can't control everything just like how he couldn't control the storm. He is also learning that being afraid of someone or something is a normal thing. For example, when he sees the bear, he trembles with helplessness. Cole is just not afraid of the bear but also afraid of dying. The last thing is that Cole is starting to feel sympathy towards others. For example, when the sparrows were dying, he was actually starting to care and feel unhappy for them. These are some of the reasons why I think Cole is changing.
Everyone adjusts to change differently. For example, the character Lou Ann, had a baby and her husband left her. There are several ways that she could have handled it. On one hand she could have said, ?To heck with him, good riddance.? But she chose to take it hard, she slipped into a form of depression and was easily pushed around by others, because she was afraid of them leaving her if they got mad. Taylor helped her change all that.
Anger is a major theme for both Cole, in Touching Spirit Bear, and Logan, in The Last
Like Gil and Fix, a similar metamorphosis occurs in the character of Charlie. Even though Charlie is one of the most important characters, he does not appear until the last few chapters of the novel. In his own words, Charlie describes his change:
One way Cole changed was his way of accepting help. Before he switched his method Cole believed that anyone who offered him any help was running solely on pity. He would not accept any of it. After he realized that help is something that should be welcomed, he no longer was maddened when people offered it to him. Once in awhile, but only in dire situations, he would ask for it. In the text Cole asks, “Give me something to take away the monsters.” Learning that assistance is a great thing is one of the many ways that Cole changed in the story.
Throughout time, everyone goes through changes, whether they’re big or small. Some people become a completely different person. In the story “Touching Spirit Bear” by Ben Mikaelsen, a boy named Cole changes his whole attitude towards others. Cole becomes a different person at the end of the story. Cole Matthews has a dramatic change of heart. Cole changes when he had to soak in the freezing pond, carry the ancestor rock and dance “the dance”. He also changes when he invites peter to the island, he also changes when peter accepts is apology later in the story. Everyone at sometime in their life will change.
Byron started to change when he said “Yes ma'am” to Grandma Sands. Kenny started to change when he told Grandma Sands “He can follow directions real good, Grandma Sands, he’s not as dumb as he looks.”Byron also changed when he told Kenny not to go to Collier’s Landing even when he could have easily gone with Kenny. “I really wanted to go see where some kid drowned and now By was choosing this time to listen to what a grown-up told him”. Kenny changed when he decided to go to Collier’s Landing even though Grandma Sands warned him. “Oh, man! Collier’s Landing…”Finally, both Byron and Kenny changed in the middle, when Kenny drowned and Byron saved him and started to cry like a kindergartener baby. “... all I could do was sit there and let Daddy Cool nibble on my head like a kindergarten
“He has broken ribs maybe a broken pelvis. Add to that hypothermia and a broken leg and arm,” (pg 105). As you can probably tell the bear didn’t care that Cole had a knife, Cole trying to kill this bear also goes back to Cole needs a sense of power and if he would of killed the bear that would definitely give him a ton of power, or at least in Cole’s mind. This lead to Cole bleeding on the ground, and struggling to move. Surprising even while he was on the ground and in pretty bad condition Cole still managed to be really rude to birds that did not do anything to him to him.
All kinds of people change in many different ways. Take the two main characters from the novel “The Watsons go to Birmingham” for example. Byron and kenny Watson both go through a lot of changes on the inside and out, but Byron has changed the most. In my opinion Byron changed the most because he cares about his family even more, he acts more responsible and, is a lot more understanding One of the ways Byron changes is that he cares more about his family. An example of this is when Byron saved Kenny from drowning at the swimming hole in Alabama.
An example of a change of both bad and good would be Peter. He suffered a permanent head injury inflicted upon by Cole. He, after the event changed perspective towards hopelessness and despair, eventually trying to end his own life. Peter would have ended up successfully committing suicide, if not for Cole healing Peter. When Peter was at the island, he at first rejected Cole, and saw him through the eyes of an enemy. Peter showed signs of oppression, not “wanting to get used to it.. [not] wanting to carve... [not] wanting to learn. (Full quote: I don’t want to get used to it… why would I want to carve, depends on if you want to learn or not)” (225, 229, 232). Peter had changed for the worse, but Cole managed to save him, as Garvey and Edwin
During the storm cole longed for the at.oow wishing he had not thrown it away. In this context the at.oow represents all the people who tried to help him that he had pushed away. In this moment he realizes that by pushing away Edwin and Garvey who had tried to help him how cold and alone this had made him. At this moments learned that he needed the help of others and that he could not do everything by himself. This realization is further cemented by the fact that Cole calls for help multiple times during the storm as he knows that he needs someone. This is different from the Cole at the start of the book who repeatedly turned away Garvey who wanted to teach Cole that he was not the only one who had a hard life and there were others like him
As time passes, many people start to develop change due to certain events that affected their lives. Although some may change, there are still those who go through a tough experience but don’t get affected at all so they remain the same. In the movie Dead Poets Society there are many events that occurred in which the boys in the movie became either a dynamic character or a static character. It all came down to how they were at the end of the movie. Some boys changed and were not the same person they were in the beginning and some didn’t change and remained the same type of person from beginning to end.
D.J. is a Haitian and Hispanic female born on November 7, 1995. She is Jewish and believes in reading her Bible to get better. Her highest education so far is 12th grade high school, but she speaks with great intelligence and a high vocabulary. She lives by herself and was working at Walmart in Orlando to help support herself. She worked there from Oct. 10 2017 to March 3, 2017. She was let go from her job after deciding to go back to her job after hours and lay down somewhere drinking her troubles away. She later decided to pull the fire alarm when the cops found her which caused her to first be admitted into Lakeside. During the interview, the more she explained her situation and how she ended up here the more I saw her demeanor changed.
I chose, Jason as my character that changed the most because I feel that he changed dramatically during the book. He came from a pretty terrible environment, he lived in a dangerous neighborhood, filled with crime and gangs. Next he was the ultimate slacker, he never payed attention in school, and could never stay focused for longer than 30 seconds at a time. But the more memorable thing that he had to deal with... is the fact that his father is in Jail, and his mother is trying to get a lawyer for a divorce transaction. Throughout this book, he joins a club called the "EagleFly's". This group consisted, of Jason the slacker, Benny the athlete, Dakota, the perfect student, and Alice, the nerd. Together they formed a team in hopes to successfully rob the US. Mint to give the school more funding. Now this wouldn't have
Communication is a powerful thing that may cause people to either drift apart or come closer. People communicate to be understood, but the lack of communication can lead a person to separate themselves from everyone else, only wishing to be understood. In Jay Asher’s book, 13 Reasons Why, Clay Jensen receives a box of tapes that claim they’re by Hannah Baker, a girl Clay claimed he ‘used to like’. The only problem is that Hannah Baker had committed suicide some time ago, and she mentions how whoever is receiving her tapes is a reason for her death. Now Clay has to locate the other tapes to find out the secrets behind Hannah’s death, and how he played a role in it. Through the process of listening to each tape Clay realizes something. If Clay
“‘It doesn’t matter what other people think or believe,’ Cole said. ‘It’s what you believe. That’s what’s important.” (Mikaelsen 238). By Ben Mikaelsen, Touching Spirit Bear. Cole is angry. He then beats up Peter, so he has to talk to the Circle of Justice. The circle then sends him to an island. He gets mauled by a bear but does face change; he is then recused. He talks to the circle again and convinces them to let him go back to the island, for a year. He does make change and realizes how to control his anger. He then has Peter come to the island and helps Peter trust him again, and forgive him. To make permanent change you have to have the right mindset, relationships, and reminders.
