Have you ever noticed that many novels are timeless and are still relatable to people even many years later? One of these timeless novels is The Outsiders by S.E Hilton. In the novel The Outsiders there are two rival groups that are always at odds with each other. One of the rival groups is called the Greasers and the other rival gang is called the Socs. The novel is mainly about their struggle to find their place in life. The timeless idea of this novel stems from the concept that people are different, but in the end, we all have the same problems, people are always being judged by social class, and that people are always being judged by the way they look. " Thing are rough all over" was a very important quote in the Outsiders because it represents that no matter where you go you will find people who share differences but in the end they all have the same problems. in the Outsiders a Greaser named Ponyboy parents died and it was really hard dealing with the grief for him. Also in the novel Ponyboy got physically attacked by the Socs and he did not know how to handle it. The quote " Things are rough all over"(Hilton) shows that it timeless because it does not matter what generation you come from or where you live you will always have problems. When Ponyboy's parents died and it was really hard for him to deal with the grief, and that is timeless because young kids all over the world have to deal with losing parents. When Ponyboy got attacked by the Socs in The Outsiders it shows that back the and now people still get bullied. Social class is a big asset in the Outsiders because there are parts of their town that Socs can go to but not Greasers. There is a quote from the Outsiders that says " Well I won't. But I gotta be someplace without Greasers or Socs, with just people. Plain ordinary people"(Hilton). This quote shows how Ponyboy just wants to be treated as a normal person. Another affect social class has had in the Outsiders Greasers live two very different part of town than the Socs. Separation by social class relates to the Outsiders being timeless because there are still places today that only certain people are welcome. The quote from the Outsiders " Well I won't. But I gotta be someplace without Greasers or Socs, with just people. Plain ordinary people". This quote is timeless because no matter who you are, you just want to be considered an ordinary person and don't want to be out of the ordinary.
