Courage means to have the strength to do something that frightens you knowing it will be difficult or dangerous. Someone can only show their courage through their words and actions.To Kill A Mockingbird is a book by Harper Lee.It revolves around young girl’s life called Scout. Scout lives in Maycomb with her father, Atticus, her brother, Jem, and their cook, Calpurnia. Scout and Jem go through many things and witness many act and types of courage. Different types of courage have been expressed in the book like moral, physical, and emotional. Harper Lee shows the significance of these courages through her characters.
Doing the right thing even though it may lead to the opposition and disapproval of others and fighting for what you believe in no matter the consequences is described as moral courage. “Atticus sighed. ‘I’m simply defending a Negro—his name’s Tom Robinson. He lives in that little settlement beyond the town dump. He’s a member of Calpurnia’s church, and Cal knows his family well. She says they’re clean-living folks. Scout, you aren’t old enough to understand some things yet, but there’s been some high talk around town to the effect that I shouldn’t do much about defending this man.’” (pg. 100) When Atticus was chosen to defend Tom Robinson, he didn’t refuse.
