“ If you don't try, you'll never know.” This quote explains that in your lifetime you're going to have to take risks and try new things. In the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Tom takes many risks and so have I during the year. Tom also had many changes in the book, as did I throughout my 7th grade year. First, Tom has changed throughout the book. At the beginning of the book Tom was always telling some sort of lie. He lied about whitewashing the fence, his toe hurting, memorizing bible verses, taking the pills and much more. Towards the end of the book Tom is starting to realize he needs to be truthful. On the day of the murder trial Tom is asked to take the stand. He was as scared as a mouse getting chased by a cat. After a few minutes of talking and thinking Tom confesses the truth about the murder. Injun Joe was the one who killed Dr. Robinson! Another example of how Tom changed in the book is his kindness. After Tom brought up his old crush Amy, Becky was as mad as your mom when you don't clean your room. Tom tried to get her back but she didn't care. After awhile he didn't really care what she did. When Tom and Becky were stuck in the cave he confronted her and told her they would get out. He also took the blame for the ripped …show more content…
American Studies has always been the subject that didn't interest me and I wasn't too good at it. I went into 7th grade thinking about how boring it was going to be and confusing. With the year getting close to an end I realized that it ended up being one of my best subjects. I also understood it very well. I've also changed academically through a sport. The sport I enjoy is running. My dad said I should go out for cross country. So fall came and I joined cross country. I didn't really know what to expect or if I would like it. In the end cross country was a very fun sport. I met new people, did fun activities and I was actually pretty

Tom Sawyer had learned a lot and had matured a lot by the end of the book. As a reader reads this book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer he will see that Tom Sawyer gets into a lot of trouble. Dictionary.com says the definition of manipulation is “the act of managing or influencing skillfully, especially in an unfair manner.” The book Tom Sawyer, written by Mark Twain, accounts the young life of Tom Sawyer and the ways he uses manipulation to change the minds of Aunt Polly, Becky Thatcher, and his friends for something he desires.
Although loved by many, Tom Sawyer is the most selfish character in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. This could be the opinion of many people if it wasn’t for adult characters such as the Duke, the Dauphin, and Pap Finn; Tom Sawyer is a young boy, therefore, his antics are seen as comical and there is less resentment towards his character. The character of Tom Sawyer is extremely egocentric and selfish because he displays blatant disregard for the practical way to make plans in life-or-death situations, doesn’t understand the gravity of murder and robbery, and he will do anything, no matter how crazy or impractical, to make himself seem like a hero.
In this essay it will go about the novel of Mark Twain The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The novel has been published in 1876. The first quarter of the XIX century has become the preparatory era for the half-philosophical and half-journalistic literature of sometimes humorous, sometimes instructive and moralistic writings. National characteristics of Americans with their practicality, utilitarian morality and native cheerful humor which is highly different from the sarcastic and surly British humor are vividly reflected. The whole oeuvre of the author may be characterized by the Enlightment of the XVIII century. Unfortunately, its recognition the novel received only after the death of the author and, though, it was not as popular as the other works of Mark Twain (for instance, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn), it became the classic of American literature.
Chapter nine of author Mark Twain’s work, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, proves to be a major turning point of the novel. Within the chapter, the main character Tom Sawyer, accompanied by Huckleberry Finn, witness the murder of Dr. Robinson, committed by Injun Joe, when they snuck out late at night to a graveyard, in order to test a superstition. From this point forward, the novel no longer focuses on the childish antics of the youth, and switches focus to the darker topic of the murder of Dr. Robinson. Within this chapter, author Mark Twain does many things with the story. These matters include making the graveyard frightening through descriptive phrases favoring auditory and visual senses, the usage of foreshadowing to prepare the reader
“There is no better test of a man’s integrity than his behavior when he is wrong.” (Marvin Williams). This story takes place in St. Petersburg, Missouri. Mark Twain, the author of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, has another book, Huckleberry Finn. “Tom Sawyer hates boredom. So he makes life as exciting as possible – for everyone!”(Twain, back cover). Tom Sawyer, even though he can be a bezonian, has integrity because he helps his friends in indecent situations.
Who scares their aunt half to death? Who gets himself and his girlfriend nearly killed by starvation? Who fights a new kid in town because he doesn’t like the way the new kid dresses? Thomas Sawyer. Like Tom, I have changed throughout the year in a positive way. Different experiences have changed Tom, and I have changed both academically and socially through different experiences.
Tom Sawyer is a book about a boy who has some crazy adventures. Tom also gets into almost of trouble through his adventures. Throughout the book tom changes and becomes a better person. This is how he changes and becomes a better person.
I have also changed from a highly over-confident individual to someone who knows their limits. Tom was a mischievous prankster at the start of the book who slowly became a more caring person. In chapter one Tom had stole jam from aunt polly and made a run for it. He also had gone swimming and skipped school. When he had witnessed the murder of Doc Barker and the town had accused Muff Potter, Tom didn’t do anything to help him.
Tom Sawyer has a strong, mischievious character, and that's evident from the start of the novel. Many events occur in "Novels title" that impact Tom Sawyers character, but the changes they make are to the motives behind his actions, rather than the actual actions themselves. In fact, his behavior remains just as sneaky throughout the book, and even in the last chapter he's shown manipulating someone. While throughout the novel,Tom proves himself to be a sneaky character through his behavior, by the end of the novel he has changed dramatically, not because his behavior has changed, but because his motives have changed, and are much more selfless.
Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer is full of rich scenery, a great plot, a twist ending, and inspiring characters. Even with all those great topics, in my opinion the characters are the most interesting. The protagonist of the book would be Tow Sawyer himself. A lad of twelve who has an attitude fit for a mischiveous boy like him. Tom is always late, he get into trouble often, and is always coniving to get what he wants. However he is a hero to not only the other village boys but to his sweetheart, Becky. He has stood up for Becky, comfoerted her is times of trouble, and has been there for her. Now the antagonists, Injun Joe, is defferent, and yet slightly similar. Injun Joe is not lazy, he always has to be doing something, even if that something is
The main character in the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer learns numerous lessons throughout the course of the story. Tom Sawyer learns that there will always be consequences negative actions. For instance, Injun Joe brutally murders Doctor Robinson, and lies to make it seem as if someone else committed the crime. In the text it says, “... Tom stood dumb and staring, and heard the stonyhearted liar reel off his serene statement…” At the end of the story, he starves to death inside an unexplored cave system. Furthermore, he learns the importance of putting others’ necessities before your own. Tom’s selflessness is shown at school in the following quote: “‘Who tore this book?’ … He sprang to his feet and shouted- ‘I done it!’ … he took without
In the book, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, there are a lot of changes, like not being respected to being respected and also from being poor and having no money to pretty much rich. It is not just Tom Sawyer that goes through change, everybody does I know. In the novel, Tom Sawyer had many changes. He gained more respect by saving Judge Thatcher’s daughter.
Tom has changed a lot throughout the book. He has learned to follow the rules. He was as sneaky as a fox, but now he is more behaved now. Tom has also learned to trust people and get over his fears like the dark and Injun Joe. It wasn’t just Tom's growth I have learned about, I’ve gotten to look at my own growth and improvements.
1.) Tom Sawyer changes over the course of the novel in two main ways. He becomes more mature and he becomes more responsible. When Tom and his friends run away to Jackson’s Island, he doesn’t recognize the grief he is causing to his loved ones, meaning that at that point in the novel he isn’t mature. However later on in the story he shows his maturity by taking the punishment for Becky.
