Training Camp When it comes to fitness, clients believe they will see instant results. A certain percent of individuals are impatient and expect to see changes within a week of exercises. Whereas the other percent will understand it takes more than a few sets of sit ups and planks to achieve their ultimate goal. Over the course of the summer, I was able to see the different workout personalities at D1 Jackson’s “Boot Camp” sessions. Also, clients need to understand being able to establish a great workout routine will take more than physical strength; it is more so about mental mindset, dedication, and perseverance. For instance, I did not know how they might take to me, since the preparatory group are closer to my age and might see myself as a peer rather than their instructor. Because I understand it is hard for individuals aged 17 to 19 to see a 22 year old as an authority figure. So I was told by the other coaches to remain calm, but also be assertive in order for them to respect me and not try to get their every way. The first day of instructing a class I started with the developmental group (12-15yrs). I started off by getting everyone’s name and introducing myself, just so each of them could get a feel for me and vice versa. Next, I had them jog 3 laps around the indoor turf and afterwards they had to do warm up drills. The warm up drills consisted of: butt kicks, B-skip, knee to chest, and lunges with a twist. After five minutes of warm-ups, I instructed them to line up on the goal line and participate in jumping jacks (20sec), crunches (3x10), fire hydrants (2x15each). The reasoning for the pre-workout is to get the individulas blood flowing and starting a good breathing routine. It should be fully understood why an athlete or someone trying to live a healthier life should give it one hundred and ten percent because at the end of the day it will make them feel like a new person. Also, a person should understand they need to be willing to do whatever it takes to reach their own success story. That is why I grew to love the D1 organization. D1 is trying to create a path to help people see they can do whatever they thought was impossible. I am glad I was given the opportunity to become a part of it. It was a learning experience altogether because I was able to see every coaching technique and listen to every coach’s advice. Even though I was apprehensive at first, it was a pleasure working with the group of adolescents and making sure they were performing at their greatest
