Women have been treated wrongly for many years and have been given very few rights in America since the early 1800s. As seen in the novel “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck, we are given an introduction of a male character and then a brief and quite harsh introduction to his wife. We are never given a name of her because she is seen and thought as a possession to all the male characters presented in the book.Women in the early 1900s had very few rights and had to fight for the equal amount they should have for years.Women should have just as many rights as men because they are equally smart and can work just as hard as men.
Within the novel Curley's wife is treated like a possession or a “whore” rather than a women. Women back in the early 1900’s were treated very badly or were judged by their looks and not by their intelligence. In the novel Curlys wife is called things like “tart” and “purty” or even “jailbait”, which for a women is very disrespectful.A womens intelligence is not defined by their looks but as seen within the novel “Of Mice and Men” it is stated

They have facts and lots of support from other women. They have very few women in politics there but is there is women in office then it's of islamic value. These women are smart to be revolting and trying to get involved with the government.
Life in Egypt for women is very hard and is proven to be one of the worst country for women to live in.They have to fight for their rights before they are all taken away. Women don't have to be physically strong, but being mentally strong is a sure way for men and women to be equal. If a women can think just as hard and can take the mental abuse of men with derogatory comments about them, then they should be treated equally.Women are mentally strong if they are not physically
Equality has been a hot topic in the past century. Women and African-Americans have not had equality for that long. Women gained quality in the 1920s and African-Americans gained equality in the 1960s. It took them a lot of time to get those rights and dream in Of Mice and Men, show equality must be worked for. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck utilizes the characters of Crooks and Curley’s wife to illustrate that equality takes a long time to come by.
Toxic masculinity. It is a hidden concept that not many men know of yet many men have internalized. It is a socially-constructed attitude that describes the male gender as violent, unemotional, dominant, and sexually aggressive. Culturally accepted ideas of manliness lead men to believe that to “be a man” one must display these horrible attributes. John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men follows the dynamic duo that is George Milton and Lennie Small as they face the Great Depression and a new job. In his novel, Steinbeck seems to represent the idea of toxic masculinity through not only the ranch workers but George and Lennie themselves. Steinbeck shows that male stereotypes and false ideas of manhood not only exist in present-day but were also present during the 1930’s. Through Steinbeck’s depiction of certain men as aggressive and strong, he proves that toxic masculinity, gender roles, and the patriarchy can affect men negatively much more than they affect women.
John Steinbeck uses different methods to present Curley’s Wife and women in the 1930s. Throughout the novella Steinbeck represents women to be lower in society than men. In the novella women only have three different roles. A wife, an aunt and prostitutes. Steinbeck uses these roles to show the roles of women in society. Curley’s wife, Aunt Clara and Susy and Clara from the cathouse represent he microcosm of the women in American society.
Curley’s Wife was a subject of Prejudice because she was a woman. During the 1930’s a woman’s place was to be at home raising a family, also women were seen as second class citizens and property of their husbands. Before we meet Curley’s Wife, the reader already has an opinion of her because of what the character Candy calls her- “jail bait”; George calls her a “tramp”. It’s implied that she is a tart and a promiscuous woman; she craves the attention her husband doesn’t give her.
It's not fair the way women have been treated in today's culture and time before ours. The first meeting for the women's rights was held July 19-20 in 1848 so women could be able to vote created by the 19th amendment which “guarantees all American women the right to vote (House of Representatives)”. Strong, confident and forceful women have brought about gender equality and redefined the woman’s place in society; this is illustrated in A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen and in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.
Discrimination have been happening everywhere in the world and as long as anyone can remember. Discrimination is still a problem today. America just had protests dealing with Black Lives Matter and African Americans feel they are still discriminated against and treated differently. The time that the novel Of Mice and Men takes place in is important because during the Great Depression it was hard to find money, so Lennie couldn’t just stay at home while George had to work. They both had to make money to support themselves. Lennie, Crooks, and Curley's wife all face discrimination which greatly impacts their lives.
A common misconception is that Muslim women are oppressed all around the world, but this is a fallacy created through the use of propaganda and misinformation. The so-called "oppression of women" is not a characteristic of Islam at all and to say otherwise would be out of ignorance. Reza Aslan (2015), a scholar of all religions, makes it clear that oppression of women is not related to Islam but to particular countries. A common propaganda technique is to use Saudi Arabia as the standard of Islam. This could not be further from the truth, as many Muslim countries view women equally if not beyond that. There are dozens of Muslim countries who have had more female heads of state than the US; Algeria, Turkey, Sudan, Senegal. There are a handful of Muslim countries around the world, who mention women's equal rights in their constitution, whereas the U.S is one of 32 countries who does not include an explicit gender equality guarantee (Ravitz, 2015). Using an uneducated generalization, that holds no merit, causes inconsistencies and mistaken impressions of a particular
Believe it or not, there’s a lot of problems in the novel, Of Mice and Men, which portrays plenty of different social issues within the text and the movie. There were loads of racism, sexism, and ageism presented both in the film and in the book, these issues paved the way to the theme and essence of the overall story. The book Of Mice and Men, is about two different people, Lennie and George. There’s numerous of evidence to show how these three problems are bestowed in the narrative.
In the Middle East there are many restrictions against women. However there are people who are fighting to support women or others who just do care about the women well beings. We might not see that there are many injustices committed every day and every time, because we just do not hear about it or we do not take the time to realize what is really surrounding us. People had various reactions against the government. For example we saw many who had solidarity for women, and others who decided to only complain about why women should be treated as second class. I believe that we actually need to take the time to learn about what is really happening in the world. Personally, I say this because I also had no idea what was injustices
How is a woman in an era dominated by men expected to gain attention? Steinbeck wrote the novel titled Of Mice and Men emphasising the male society while displaying American dreams crushed throughout the novel. Whereas, minimal wiggle room for Curley’s wife expands upon her husband’s father’s farm because of its majority being men and her being the inferior sex. Her image demonstrates a sexual figure towards the male workers when Lennie and George saw her for the first time as stated, “She had full, rough lips and widespread eyes, heavily made up. Her fingernails red and her hair hung in curls with a cotton house dress,” whereas red usually provokes people as an attention seeking color from its vividness bringing along attention to her hands
All humans are different. We have different skin colors, not everyone is the same sex. That is what make us human. These differences are what bring us together, but they can tear us apart. Humans can be plain and simply cruel to one another. John Steinbeck shows us how us as humans can be cruel and our cruelties of the past that still live one to today. He brings to light that people who stand out or are mistreated to say the least. Humans were cruel in the past and they’ll always be cruel. It’s just human nature.
There are many people out there in the world that are discriminated because of the way they were born or how they act. In the book Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck is a realistic fiction book that talks about how people were discriminated during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. I'm going to show you who and how people were discriminated in the book Of Mice And Men. Lennie, Curley’s Wife and crook’s are discriminated because of their brain, gender and color.
Throughout the years, sexism has had a tremendous impact on women. Women in the 1920’s, and even before, were known as a man's possession, because they were considered the “weaker” sex. People, mostly men, had an idea of how women should be and how they should act, they were not allowed to work, be free, and in some cases not to talk or even look at other men, without being called a cruel name. In the book, Of Mice of Men, a character who is known as Curley's wife is the only woman on their farm and is secluded from everybody, with the exception of her husband, Curley. She was one of the many ladies who were mistreated all around the world during this time. Curly has taken ownership of her life and does not give her the option of doing what she wants or needs. Sexism has been an issue throughout every woman's life, including our character in the story, who has been struggling to get attention from someone who is willing to give it. It is clear that Curley’s wife is a victim of sexism, which would have shaped her into the woman she would have become.
The stench of farm animals was strong in the tiny windowless room. Unlike the noisy bunk house, this room was dead silent. If someone were to walk past it they would not think that it were fit for a human. That was a scene from the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. This novel is based around the early nineteen hundreds on a farm in California. In this story George and Lennie are two men who try to find work, enough work to get their own land. The only problem with this is that Lennie is mentally handicapped and can’t keep a job. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, discrimination is shown by sexism towards the Woman, racism towards Crooks, and hatred towards Lennie because he’s mentally handicapped.
Throughout the U.S history, women have fought a long journey in order to be treated fairly and equally. When women arrived to this country, they were seen as housewives who only served their families, nothing less and nothing more. As time progressed, many women started to disagree with the idea of being just housewives and believed they were capable of many great things such as having the right to vote, and being able to work outside of home. Eventually, it started to create inequalities of the legal statuses of men and women. Around the mid-nineteenth century, the women’s right movement started bringing controversial
