“I’m part of the Witness Protection Program, and I can’t stand that i’m lying to everybody that ‘knows me’,” proclaimed a person in the Witness Protection Program. Just like the person in the quote, Zach felt he was living a lie when he had to change his identity for the witness protection program. After Zach’s father was caught smuggling drugs on a plane, bad men such as Alonzo and his men broke into Zach and his family's house. His family was put into Witness Protection Program where they were forced to change their identity and move to Elko, Nevada. In Elko Zach meets a man named Sam Sebesta. Alonzo and his men eventually find Zach in Nevada but Sam saves Zach from the bad men. Since the author gave clues about Sam’s true identity Zach knew Sam must’ve had a different identity before becoming a custodian. In Zach’s Lie, Roland Smith reveals Sam’s true identity of a spy by showing how calm Sam stays throughout the book, showing Sam talents, and showing how good Sam is at setting traps. To reveal Sam's identity the author shows how calm Sam stays throughout the book. Even with a gun pointed at him he remained calm, almost no other people would be able to remain that calm unless they used to be a spy. Roland also reveals Sam’s identity by showing his talents. Sam speaks many languages fluently and is very good at playing the piano. Many spies can speak languages fluently and many average people can not. Lastly the author shows Sam’s identity of a spy by showing how good he was at setting traps. Sam made a punching bag crash on Alonzo. A custodian would never think of an idea of making a punching bag fall on Alonzo and a spy would be one of the few people to think of that. Various actions throughout the story from Sam have revealed his true identity of a
Trevor Noah wrote his memoir, Born a Crime, to tell his life story and the prevailing force in his life, his mother. As a half white, half black child living during and directly after Apartheid in South Africa, there were a lot of racial expectations put on him. With his father out of the picture, it was his mother that raised him and taught him how to navigate the often murky waters of society’s view of his racial identity vs his true identity. Noah and his mother became incredibly close and he described their relationship as them against the world. As a result of how close they were, she became his main influence and so her sense of independence became mirrored in Noah, such that he gained the confidence to be his own person and make his own decisions, separate from what others told him he should be and should do.
Sam who is weirdly nicknamed Marshall, kept distance from Rameck and George. Sam had a job at McDonalds to help out at home, even though he was young he changed his birthdate so he fit the age to work there. The older boys in the neighborhood would often lead him to trouble, by his junior he was smoking or drinking and doing stuff that wasn’t really good for him. They used his car for a crime and now--- Sam is in trouble with the law

The Whore’s Child is a famous short story by Richard Russo. The story follows the life of a nun, Sister Ursula, as she joins a college fiction writing course and begins writing her life story. As she writes, with the help of her professor and the feedback from her class, she discovers more about herself and the truth about her life. A key element of this story is the depth to which the characters are explored, given the limited amount of time for characterization. A primary way to explore this characterization is through the works of prominent identity theorists – one of which being Canary et al. This theory talks about some of the ways that identity is developed, through concepts such as social cognition, schema, and the four cognitive
Veronica Roth openly insisted, “I belong to the people I love, and they belong to me--they, and the love and loyalty I give them, form my identity far more than any word or group ever could”( Allegiant). Veronica examines that the overall influence family has among a person’s character and identity as they grow up and begin to comprehend the world strongly shapes an individual. Due to the overwhelming amount of time childhood and life is spent among family, people begin to pick up the similar habits, characteristics, and feelings as their loved ones. Despite whether the one’s around an individual teach them how they would like to live their life, or what path of life and difficulties they would rather avoid, family always has a major impact on someone’s identity. Although Hyeonseo’s identity in The Girl With Seven Names by Hyeonseo Lee is incessantly evolving throughout all three parts of the novel, her family manipulates her identity significantly more than the remaining parts of her erratic life in Part One as she is growing up and learning about her country, in Part Two as she starts her new daunting life away from her home country, and in Part Three when she is dealing with the consequences of her mother and brother’s perilous escape.

Just like Sonny, the narrator too struggles to establish his own identity. According to Maslow “when we are in doubt we are not honest” and if one is not honest, he will not be able to take responsibility for his actions, and the only way to self-actualize is by taking responsibility (112). Even though the narrator is quite successful in his life, working as a math teacher and having his own family, he also feels encaged in Harlem where he spent his entire

It was hot, unreasonably so, but that was not why Zach’s palms were clammy. In the light beige house in upstate New York, the 8 year old boy was seated in front of his parents. The sun cut the scene into shadows and blinding lights while his younger brother clung to his mother’s hip as she cradled and bounced him, silencing his soft cries. Zach was nervous, butterflies erupting in his stomach desperately trying to escape from the confines of his flesh and bones. He was hoping that his parents were unaware of his recent run-in with trouble, although it was looking like that was not the case. He chewed on his bottom lip and tapped his nails against the mahogany table in a desperate attempt to calm his nerves. Then his father said something unexpected.
