Many people learn many things in many different ways. Most learn in school or church, some learn in asking questions, but I believe the best lessons are taught from a good friend. Tuesdays With Morrie is a true story of the remarkable lessons taught by a dying professor, Morrie Schwartz, to his pupil, Mitch Albom. Morrie teaches Mitch the lessons of life, lessons such as death, fear, aging, greed, marriage, family, society, forgiveness, and a meaningful life. This is a story of a special bond of friendship that was lost for many years, but never forgotten and simply picked up again at a crucial time of both Morrie's and Mitch's lives.

The focus throughout Tuesdays with Morrie was on life. Many might see it as the story of death, but it is actually the story life. Morrie might talk a little on how he meets death, but what he is talking about is living at the end of his life. Mitch writes, “Now here we were . . . . . . Dying man talks to living man, tells him what he should know.”(Albom, 133) When a timer is placed on Morrie’s remaining days, he obtains a dying man’s perspective on what is truly important in life, and how to incorporate in life this importance. In Tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Album, it is apparent that conforming to a money hungry society will only harm us by giving us a false sense of happiness and a never ending want for materialistic items; instead, we should focus on those we love and cherish. Money can’t bring you the happiness and fulfillment that the companionship that true friends and love can bring.

The book, Tuesdays With Morrie sets out to discover the thoughts of Morrie Schwartz and answers his views on questions such as: are you satisfied with where you are in life. are you content with your surroundings, the people in your life and even yourself? Do you fear death or are imartacail to that fact of life? While reading an excerpt from this book the reader can ask themselves these questions too, and compare and contrast their answers to how Morrie (a well rounded, educated, college professor) views similar topics in his later life.

Once, I had a friend who was spreading rumors about other friends including me ,and they didn’t really care about anyone’s feelings but themselves. Somebody suggested that I quit that friendship. Mitch Albom’s novel Tuesdays with Morrie delves into the complexities of the human condition from the stand point of an elderly man that is slowly dying from the disease ALS, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The man, Morrie, decides to spend the last of his time on earth spreading his wisdom to as many people as possible, teaching them a lot about the importance of life, as well as what is necessary to live life to the fullest and be truly happy. What Morrie teaches these people is something great poets have been doing for a very long time. As technologies develop we develop with them and find ourselves to be lost without electronics. This is leading us down a path that will dehumanize the modern population leaving the human race more like robots. I believe that Tuesdays with Morrie may be able to help change the path that we are on.

The story goes on as to how they lose touch over the years and eventually find each other again and build a strong relationship.
