Although the song focuses on the responsibility of adulthood and how freedom is limited, specific verses throughout the song hint to the obscure interpretation. For instance, the connotation of time travel is demonstrated in the following verse, “Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol' days/When our momma sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out” (9-10). The singer is instituting the concept of going back in time in order to experience the same sentiments he/she had as a child. The speaker is deeply affected by the stress life currently causes them, engendering him/her to revisit the carefree past. Furthermore, another example which further elucidates the concept of time travel is, “We would build a rocket ship and then we'd fly it far away/Used to dream of outer space but now they're laughing at our face/Saying, "Wake up, you need to make money” (29-31). The rocketship symbolises the escape from his/her reality. As the singer progresses into life, commitments becomes arduous such as college, employment, raising a family, etc, and thiswhich promotes the desire of someone leaving it all. He/she believes by advancing into outer space, obligations such as the examples will not be requisite ; time will stop. However, even space is unable to fulfill the wish and tells the singer he/she is required to complete
The song "Stressed Out" by Twenty-One Pilots is a story about a struggling singer which seems familiar to the audience on a personal level. While exploring such sensitive topics as stress, becoming an adult, and nostalgia, it also touches upon the issue of originality. The understanding between the lead singer, Tyler Joseph, and the listeners is reached with the help of the themes, the tone, and the narrative of the song.

The song is about a person from the south who is trying to persuade others to visit the south, so they can experience the peaceful and joyful feeling of the winds and skies. The person starts off by telling the audience how they would spend their time if they were to visit the south. This is expressed when the person sings “Whistling tunes that you know and love so” The person goes on to express the feeling of the southern skies. “It’s rich precious beauty/It goes running through the soul”. The speaker then tells a story told of old as an analogy to the feeling of the southern skies. “Old man/He and his dog that walks the old land”. The speaker goes on to wish the world was as peaceful as the southern skies. “Wish I could/Stop this world from fighting”. Finally the southern person sings of how the Southern Nights are mysterious by singing “Mystery… In the southern skies”.
As the power of a song resides completely in its lyrics, it is no longer surprising that music can be healing, inspiring, or even motivating. After introducing this insight to my life, it became very rare for me to listen to any Imagine Dragons’ song without it leaving an impact on my life and my perspectives. Imagine Dragons is a rock band whose music tends to address both personal and social issues. It’s Time, one of their biggest hits and most influential songs, was written by the band’s lead singer Dan Reynolds during a difficult time in his life. “ I was not very happy with who I was, I guess, and I wanted to make some changes” says the singer in an interview with Purevolume , in which he addresses It’s Time as a poem he wrote to express
The line “You got a fast car, but is it fast enough so we can fly away?” , reflects the initial hope and excitement, while later lyrics “I had a feeling that I belonged, I had a feeling I could be someone” show the eventual disillusionment and longing for a better life. This song
This song takes about someone feeling as though “the world has reached an ending” and how they are done taking the excuses and lies being told. This song can also relate to what Ron Williamson experienced throughout his horrible years in jail. He felt as though his world had ended, and everyone was telling him silly lies. He knew they were lying, and it was an awful thing to go through. This song demonstrates, like in the book, how hard it is to know the truth, but it be hidden from you.
“Now that she’s back in the atmosphere with drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey, hey” This metaphor represents that even though people leave us, they return in spirits that we can feel. Another metaphor that seen later in the song, that is also personification, is “But tell me, did he wind sweep you off your feet? Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day and head to the Milk Way?” This metaphor shows how we can be anxious and excited to know what our loved one is doing on their journey, and what really goes on after we die. This reiterates Pat Monahan’s question of do we come back as something else, do we swim through planets and fall in love with shooting
Whether it is a child dreaming of higher ambition or a mother’s lullaby soothing all worries away, these experiences eventually become a distant memory in adulthood. The artists connect a similar nostalgic childhood theme that relates to most listeners. An example can be found in the line from Twenty One Pilots “When our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out” (10). Twenty One Pilots are insisting that childhood is less stressful than being an adult by using a positive memory felt during childhood. Lukas Graham also finds common ground with using the innocence and security of childhood, as demonstrated in the line “It was a big big world, but we thought we were bigger” (4).
He wants to feel equal like everyone else, but back then that was how everyone was treated, and this song fights back towards that it is
The song really tells us that we must take risks in life. When given the option we must dance, no matter how silly we look instead of sitting out on the opportunity. This translate to being a senior, I have many choices in my life and if I want to go far, I must take chances and have the courage to go out, to dance instead of sitting out and missing chances.
The song describes how he's surprised that the person feels sympathy for his situation despite all the things he's done wrong. It talks about what you chase won’t set you free from your own problems. They’re asking to not be looked at like a lost cause because they can’t be
At first glance, David Bowie 's Space Oddity would seem to be a patriotic theme song for the soon-to-be-launched Apollo 11 mission. While such assumptions would be fairly based considering the BBC used the song in its coverage of the moon landing, Space Oddity is much more profound and metaphorical in meaning. As it was actually written, this song provides a view into the artist 's rise to fame, drug problems, and changing perspective on the world.
This leaves the song open ended, with no set boundaries and allowed oneself to express and reveal individuality through interpretation.
His lyrics intend to say to be supportive of the change that is happening. He also writes, "the loser now, will be later to win. "3 This to me represents any minority who is seen as a loser of their time. Because of all of this, I believe that this song can transpire to any decade, since it represents the new generation of people who construct the world differently than the past
There is no doubt that the trials of adulthood can be stressful. Stressed Out by Twenty-One Pilots is a song that nearly every adult can relate to.
