The Broken Spears by Miguel León-Portilla is a novel of the Spanish conquest over the Aztecs in Mexico, as told through the Aztec perspective. Each chapter displayed short stories regarding each situation between the Aztecs and the Spaniards. Throughout this novel, the theme of terror, religion, and greed are brought up. Although Broken Spears was written by the Aztecs, and Seven Myths was more focused on the Spaniards, each novel ties into similar issues which are brought up throughout each book.

Even though, this quote might sound sophisticated, I think this quote means that our acts can affect you in the present and the future.

Through these characters John Steinbeck shows the effects about true loneliness.

He also meets a group of immigrants and begins to fall into the negative stereotypes people have about immigrants. One of the immigrants is Antonia, and she helps him learn that immigrants are people too. Throughout the story, Jim comes to appreciate the will and spirit that make immigrants like Ántonia so successful. In the book, it says “ The girls I knew were always helping to pay for plows and reapers, brood-sows, or steers to fatten," This quote shows how Jim changed his point of view and learned to understand and appreciates immigrants hard work. “You always have two choices: your commitment versus your fear.” - Sammy Davis Jr. During the first two years of the American Revolution, things were not looking up for the Continental Army commanded by none other than George Washington. During the war, General Washington was having a rough time keeping the soldiers to stay and fight. So, he set up camp at Valley Forge. His men made huts to live in with fireplaces and one door. They made their camp close enough to the British to keep them under surveillance. Not realizing that all the events that the Americas had done, such as the Boston Tea Party in 1773, would start a war with the British Empire. I have decided to not re-enlist for the three reasons which are: the clothing in this weather is terrible, the sickness is hard to survive through, and the conditions at Valley Forge are terrible.
As the Canadian social democratic politician and Baptist minister, Tommy Douglas once said, “Man can now fly in the air like a bird, swim under the ocean like a fish, he can burrow into the ground like a mole. Now if only he could walk the earth like a man, this would be paradise.” In the book Unbroken, written by Laura Hillenbrand, defying the many odds against him, Louis Zamperini showed us that with being faithful, you can conquer your problems. Some of the many struggles Zamperini had to go through, included pushing to become a better person, surviving a plane crash resulting in 42 days stranded out at sea, becoming a POW for two years, and coming home to find that not only his past haunts him, but his present. This quote describes how determined Louie really was, regardless of how he was beaten physically on a daily basis, he persevered through it all because he was determined to reunite with his loved ones and show people he’s not as weak as people thought he
In Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand we plunge in to the life and battles of Louie Zamperini’s life. In his voyage through childhood, adolescence, soldier life, World War II, and his later years we see many traits of his identity. His friendships, his competitiveness, his resourcefulness, his honesty etc.… All of these great characteristics, but the ones that resonates with me the most and makes me admire him are his determination and with that his persistence. That determination that helped him continue and power through many hardships, this is what truly makes him admirable in my eyes. Through Hillenbrand’s writing this trait is well developed.
