There are many veterans alive and dead who have served our country. There are two veterans that come to mind every time this holiday comes around. Those two veterans are my great grandfather and my grandfather. My great grandfather served in world war 11. My grandfather served as a navy ship captain he was not fighting for our country at the time but still was there and ready too battle at in minutes notice. My great grandfather was just 17 when he went into service. He never signed up for the army he was just thrown into was right out of high-school. The story that I remember most was when he first got to the war. The drill sergeant asked him if he could shoot a gun and he mistakenly said yes and in the blink of an eye he was in the army. There were 200 fighting men on the front line in world war 11, My great grandfather was one of the 12 men who made it back safely. The reason he made it back safley was because he ran the entire time. He told us after the army he could have ran to texas and back. Their were many terriable storys from the holocaust camps he fought to liberate. He said there were lamp shades made from Jewish womens skin. He also said there were children skinnyer than twigs crying for there mothers who were killed or had abandond them. He said there were dead children in the gas chamber and it smelled awful. There were giant pits of dead bodys which the germans called this area “The Giant Trash Pit”. My great grand father suffered post tramatic stress
Honoring our Veterans is so important. They fought for us and some died fighting for peace. Veterans Day is also known as Remembrance Day, a day to remember those who died, but also celebrate those who fought on and lived through the battles. We should keep honoring our Veterans because war is not over. We still have people fighting for us right now. Veterans has been celebrated for so many years and in 1938, the day had so many ceremonies and parades that Congress marked it an official holiday.
Veterans Day is celebrated for a purpose. To honor all those who have fought in the armed force, dead or alive to help protect this country. We should give our respect and honor
vetrans day is about commemorating vetrans. when our school district holds an assembly in their honor, it lets them know that they are remebered and still thanked for their services. having all these students come together shows they are respected. when we listen to them speak we validate their experiences in war, and how they gave time of their lives.

Ever since July 4th, 1776, the vision of the United States has been to constantly improve the government and society in any way possible. Many historical things have happened since that date; slavery was abolished, civil and women’s rights have been signed into law, and just this summer, marriage equality has been made federal law. Despite the efforts to make the United States of America the land of opportunity and equality, people tend to forget about the people who made it possible for the United States to remain the “land of the free”, our U.S. veterans. Our U.S. veterans, over the years, have been treated not like they should have. Veterans have had social security benefits taken from them by the government in secrecy, and bad-mouthed in
A freedom I enjoy because of veterans sacrifice is freedom of speech. With freedom of speech you can basically say whatever you want when you want it. If you don't like a person running for a place in office or something, you are allowed to say you don't like them, without getting in trouble. If you want to protest something you are also able to do so. You can go out into the streets or on social media and protest whatever you want with freedom of speech. Your allowed to voice your opinion. People in the army go out of the country and risk their lives everyday for us to have freedom of speech.
The National D-Day Memorial is in Bedford, Virginia. The memorial recognizes the nineteen soldiers that died in the invasion of Omaha Beach from the Bedford's Company A of the Virginia National Guard's 116th Infantry Regiment. The memorial also recognizes all the other soldiers that risked their lives that day. The memorial was dedicated on June 6, 2001 in Bedford. D-Day was on June 6, 1944 when Allied soldiers under the orders of General Eisenhower attacked Normandy Beach in France. At the end of the day, the Allies got a foothold in France controlled by Hitler.

The date is May 30th, 2016; Memorial Day. I, along with some of my friends, are participating in a scavenger hunt that has lead us to the cemetery in our hometown. After finding the item hidden in the maze of gravesites, I cannot help but notice that the two flags next to the military memorial stone are in disarray. Immediately, I run to the flags and begin to fix them on their thin wooden rods, slowly but surely returning them back to the state of honor they once were in. After I finish, I stand back to look at the small flags flapping in the wind and I cannot help but feel pride in the country I am so lucky to call home.
What is Memorial Day? It is an important day in which we remember all the lives that were lost of people who were in the armed forces.
During the Memorial Day Weekend, my family decided to go on a church trip to the Niagara Falls. I kind of wanted to go, but my mom insisted that I should stay home with my grandparents to practice piano for my upcoming competition. In the end, she left the decision to me.
Remembrance Day is a time to celebrate the life and death of our fallen heros. This is a somber day, but for many it is a day dedicated to the their loved ones, who fought and died or fought and survived. World War Two claimed the lives of forty-five thousand Canadian soldiers and left over fifty-four thousand wounded, mentally and physically. It is a great honour to serve your country and those who have should never be forgotten now or a thousand years from now. They should be remembered everyday, not just one day a year. Without their sacrifice we would not bed able to express ourselves the way we can now. So please do not let their ultimate acts of bravery go in vain.
Many people have family members that have served in wars. I have two family members who have been in a military branch. My Uncle Sunny Marting has served in the Vietnam War and faced hardships and challenges that some people couldn't. He is an uncle, a veteran, and a hero to me and my family.
