In the play Romeo and Juliet by playwright William Shakespeare the playwright talks about two children on opposite sides of a family feud and they end up falling in love with each other. Romeo was in love with another women and was at a party trying to find her, and the saw Juliet and his love for the other women subsided and he became madly in love with juliet. Romeo got in a fight with Juliet's cousin and was banished from ever stepping foot there again because he killed him. Juliet was then forced by her parents to marry another man Paris even though she was already married to Romeo, and her parents had no idea. Juliet and Romeo both died together on the same night because they would have rather died together then be separated. By suggesting that the parents of romeo and juliet are responsible for Romeos and Juliets deaths and characterizing them as killers, Shakespeare conveys the theme of “Violent delights have violent ends”. If the Capulets and the Montagues didn't have so much anger and hate towards each other then romeo and Juliet would have lived and be happy together. As Juliet says “my only love sprung from my only hate” (Shakespeare 1.5.137). Juliet is saying Romeo if only our …show more content…
Juliet says’’Proud I can never be of what I hate”(Shakespeare 3.5.152). She is saying I'm glad that you want me to get married and I can never be what I hate, but i'm already married. Juliet is so scared of telling her dad that she is married to a montague, because he is already angry and hating Juliet for not accepting and being thankful for having her married that if she told him she was already married he might just kill her. All capulets hate towards the montagues is scaring Juliet and his anger towards her not accepting her
Firstly, some people believe that the parents of Romeo and Juliet were to blame for their deaths because of the ongoing feud between the two families. The argument between the Montague’s and Capulets is mentioned in the prologue, ‘Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona where we lay our scene, from ancient grudge break, to new mutiny, where civil hands make civil hands unclean, from
Violent Scenes in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet "Romeo and Juliet" is a tragic play, which is about a feud between two families of Verona, causing the deaths of two young lovers. This is apparent in the haunting opening passage of the play - "Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona, from ancient grudge break to new mutiny where civil blood makes civil hands unclean" Although it is a play about love there are many scenes that contain violence and conflict. The play opens with a feud between the Capulets and Montagues and ends with the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
‘I do but keep the peace. Put up thy sword, or manage it to part
What is a killer? A killer is usually pictured as a man silhouetted against a streetlight, someone dangerous and murderous, and several famous cases of these “killers” can be found throughout history: The Acid Bath Murderer, The Axeman of New Jersey, Jack the Ripper, etc. But can a killer only be described as a person? Or are there other “killers”? The answer can be found, just by taking a moment to think of Romeo and Juliet, where love, feuds, and a bit of hurt pride may also be turned into killers.
Then to make the matters worse, Juliet has to marry Paris. She is forced into a marriage where she didn't love the man and she was also married to Romeo at the same time. This is completely against her religion forcing her to disagree with her parents on the marriage, resulting in an argument. "An you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets," is what Capulet ranted to Juliet after she disagreed to marring Paris. Not to mention her mother didn't even care what she did after the argument, she says "Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee (3. 5. 205). This scares Juliet and also enrages her. She doesn't know what to do at this point besides either talking to Friar Laurence. "I'll to the Friar, to know his remedy," and if that doesn't work, "myself have power to die" (3. 5. 241). She would kill herself because she would be banished from her own home if she didn't marry or she would basically never see Romeo again, plus be married to a person she doesn't love. Her parents don't even care about anymore over a marriage. That seems unreasonable and makes sense to completely disown their
Some people may think the parents are ultimately to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. They assume this because Lady Capulet pushes an arranged marriage on Juliet, Lord Capulet threatens to disown Juliet and essentially both set of parents are enforcing the feud.
At the end of Romeo and Juliet, the Prince declares that "Some shall be pardoned and some punished." I believe that there are many persons responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, but ultimately it’s the parents of Romeo and Juliet that are the most at fault for the outcome of the play. The Capulets and the Montagues are in a long-standing feud. They hate each other. Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet and because of the hate, they cannot get married. Romeo and Juliet get advice from Friar Laurence. Friar Laurence is also responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he secretly married them. Romeo tells Friar Laurence that he loves Juliet and he wants to marry her. Friar Laurence tells Romeo that it is probably
Romeo and Juliet is a play about two star-crossed teenage lovers. They are from opposing families; Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet. They meet at a party at the home of the Capulet’s and fall in love at first sight. That night Romeo comes to Juliet’s balcony and he watches her for awhile. Finally, he calls out to her, and they talk, him on the ground her in her balcony. After talking they decide to get married. Romeo rushes off to make the arrangement for their wedding. Only days after the wedding Romeo is banished from Verona for the murder of Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, and only days after that Romeo and Juliet take their own lives. Romeo did first believing Juliet had died, however, she was only in a death-like sleep. She woke up and saw her beloved Romeo dead and stabbed herself with his dagger. Although they chose to take their own lives I believe Romeo’s friend Mercutio is most to blame for the two lovers deaths.
Juliet was brought up to dislike the Montagues without proper reason why. She cannot love Romeo, for his name is the enemy. Juliet brings awareness to this subject as she states, “My only love sprung from my only hate! . . . Prodigious birth of love it is to me that I must love a loathed enemy” (Shakespeare 84). Juliet knows she is not to love or be in contact with a Montague. She still continues to brawl for Romeo, even when she knows her parents will be furious if they found out. Had there not been a feud, there would be no need for Romeo and Juliet to hide their love. In the end of the book the two families resolve their differences, however it is still too late to save the young lovers. As the parents of both kids say, “For I will ray* her statue in pure gold . . . As rich shall Romeo’s by his lady’s lie, poor sacrifices of our enmity!” (Shakespeare 302). This quote brings about that Romeo and Juliet’s parents accept responsibility, as they prove the feud is the reason why their kids are dead. Overall, as Juliet’s parents believe holding a feud wouldn’t resolve in any trouble, they are held accountable for Romeo and Juliet’s
William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet is not just about the love affair between two main characters. It is also about a long lasting family feud which in turn causing two brutal deaths.
In conclusion, the parents’ of Romeo and Juliet were at fault for the death of their children. The lovers wouldn’t have had to hide their love if they weren’t afraid of their parents’. Both Romeo and Juliet’s parents’ grudge and selfishness hurt their children. These 2 lovers had a future, but old grudges and pure hate ended it before it
William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet loved each other, but they knew that it wouldn't be possible to have a relationship because of their feuding families. The Capulets and Montagues feud has gone on for a while and it affects their entire family. Romeo and Juliet are very well aware of the feud that is going on between their families. In a way, both sets of parents could be held responsible, but with direct guilt comes the Capulets. Juliet’s parents prove to be unsupportive and uncaring towards their daughter, Juliet. Her parents were prepared to disown Juliet when she said she didn’t want to marry Paris. Capulet says:
In William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo, a member of the Montague family, and Juliet, a member of the Capulet family, fall madly in love and sacrifice their lives for each other. In the city of Verona, the Capulets and the Montagues have a long going feud between their families. Their parents forbid them from falling in love which caused them to do it in secrecy. Is Romeo and Juliet a Shakesperian play full of love at first sight or just rash and consequential decisions? In this play we meet two star crossed lovers who meet at a party on one night and then, almost instataneously, plegde themselves for each other and plan to marry, which then leads to six people dying including themselves. Romeo and Juliet should have taken it slow with their affairs in order to eliminate the violence and death that ensued from them falling in love, encourage a healthier road to peace in order to unite both families, and to better encourage a more joyful relationship, as mentioned by Friar Lurence.
