Was Beowulf really a hero? Indeed he was, showing off his heroic characteristic of bravery, intelligence, wisdom, and strength throughout his journey to defeat Grendel and save the Danes. Even after anointed as King of Sweden, he still demonstrated his act as a heroic figure to his people. As a hero you engage a dangerous situation with intelligence and strength, often sacrificing your life as done by Beowulf with his attempt to defeat Grendel. Beowulf came from Sweden to help out the Danes after Grendel had terrorized them for twelve years. He put himself in a situation that no other man could be able to carry out.
