Based upon what I have read in the article I believe that James Shaw Jr. Is a hero. I believe he is a hero because during the waffle house shooting he risked his life by unarming the suspect, Saved the lives of the survivor's in the shooting, ended the thirty-four-hour manhunt on the shooter Travis Reinking, and lived to tell about it. James Shaw Jr. Ended a thirty-four-hour manhunt by disarming the perpetrator to, as he states in the passage " save his own life. Though his actions consequently saved more than just his own as many people walk away alive that day along with a few minor injuries. Shaw not only could have lost his life in this incident, but he could have also left his four-year-old daughter behind. Shaw threw himself at the shooter
“Every villain is a hero in his own mind,” quoted Tom Hiddleston, an English actor best known for playing Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From this quote it is understood that every person perceives “right” and “wrong” differently and will act according to their perception. People consider a person as either a hero or villain by looking at their actions. John Brown, was a white American abolitionist who believed that armed rebellion was the only way to overthrow slavery in the United States. With the evidence provided with different resources, such as the article John Brown: Villain or Hero? by Steven Mintz, it can be seen that John Brown is a villain.
John Brown was very similar to Nat Turner they both believed that they were chosen by god to lead slaves into freedom and if that required a fight then that was what they had to do. John Brown had a goal and that was to abolish slavery throughout the united states. The trouble in Kansas began when the Nebraska Act was signed by President Pierce, this act engaged that people make a determination on whether Kansas territory should be free or slave. In hopes that Kansas would become free of slaves, the opposing side which was named Border Ruffians invaded their territory and forced the pro-slavery election. The question of was John Brown a terrorist or a hero is more of a question asking for an opinion than a question asking for a clear, definitive answer. To a great deal (almost all) of the Southern slave owners, John Brown was definitely thought of as a terrorist because he was a white man who was willing to stand up and die for what he believed in, which was that the enslavement of blacks (negroes) was wrong morally and he did not care if he was killed because of it. John Brown was seen as a terrorist to some because of the fact that he was the man who had orchestrated a raid in which he ended up killing five men in Kentucky and had he captured the armory at Harper’s Ferry, Virginia (now Harpers Ferry, West Virginia), he probably would have gone on a killing rampage of more Southern white slave- owners and in turn caused more fear and hatred from the slave-owners onto himself.
turned violent, with bloody episodes like antislavery partisan John Brown’s organized massacre of proslavery forces in
Thesis: John Brown was a man full of honor and passion when it came to the abolishment of slavery. Not only that, but he was a man who believed that his actions were justified by his beliefs and social standpoint. Even though, he was a strong willed man; capable of standing up for his philosophies on life, he was a man who acted upon his emotions, and killed, interrogated, and terrorized towns and people. Your beliefs and morality do not justify the amount of terror that you cause, and it does not justify the amount of blood you spill; John Brown was a terrorist.
The role John Brown played the Civil War began in Kansas with his leading a "guerilla attack" on five pro-slavery men, on May 24, 1856. The targeted men were dragged, one after the other, from their homes and brutally murdered (Schultz, Mays, Winfree, 2010). The encounters were organized with the intention to rid the Pottawatomie creek area of all pro-slavery men that lived there (historynet.com). The strategy was designed as a counter attack for the Lawrence incident against abolitionists three days previously. The term "Bleeding Kansas" refers to the outbreak of violence the area experienced and suffered through. The division of Kansas at this time, half abolitionist and half pro-slavery, had caused a terrible friction throughout the territory.

John Brown really showed his courage when he and his twenty-one followers attacked on Harpers Ferry, Virginia in 1858. His mission was to be able to gather supplies to arm an anti-slave rebellion. He supposed that Harpers Ferry was the best place to do it at the time. While Brown and his followers were attacking something happened and Brown got captured. At the time no one new what was going to happen. Once they captured Brown they kept him alive to try to have him confess why he and his followers attacked Harpers Ferry. It turned out that he was just so stubborn that they got tired of listening to his remarks and on December 2, 1859, he was hung at Charlestown, Virginia.
