I believe that regardless of any external influences or manipulations from parties around Macbeth, he is responsible for his own downfall. If he was truly benevolent at his core, the words and pressures of others’ in the story would be unable to change his path towards such wicked ways. Macbeth must have possessed a fatal flaw that caused his own demise. I do not believe that he was a good person driven to evil acts solely via external manipulations. Nonetheless, there were many factors that aided in the breakdown of Macbeth. He was not only an extremely ambitious and somewhat naïve individual; he was also subject to the influences of witches, his wife, and the societal allures of power and kingship. Macbeth’s journey began through his encounter
The tragic downfall of Macbeth can be contributed to several key factors. Macbeth’s downfall can be attributed to his blind ambition, the influence of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth’s own insecurities and misgivings. Blind ambition combined with immoral goals, with Lady Macbeth’s influence and Macbeth’s personal doubts all lead to his inevitable downfall.
Macbeth is crucially at fault for his own death, although blindly following the witches and giving Lady Macbeth so much power over him to manipulate and influence him are an essential irrefutable factors that aided in his death. Although ultimately it was Macbeth’s own blind and greedy ambition which both
This makes it hard to deny that he has a major responsibility for his fate. The 3 witches play influence and cloud Macbeth’s mind but his free will is always present. We see this on several occasions through his soliloquys. Therefore even if the rise and downfall of Macbeth seem to be pre-destined, it is Macbeth himself that chooses his immoral greedy ambitions over the more righteous path. Therefore I personally believe that even though Macbeth is influences by a number of factors he still carries the heaviest burden of responsibility for his actions. So yes the witches do influence him, but in the end, it is each any man’s decision to fall for the temptation, or to be strong enough to
By the beginning of the third act, Macbeth has become king. However, he does not feel secure in his kingdomship. He is afraid of losing is crown, especially because the witches had previously prophesied that Banquo’s children were to become kings. This fear and desire to have power that comes from within Macbeth, drives him to have Banquo and Fleance -Banquo’s son- to be killed. Not only did he make this terrible decision himself but he never consulted his wife. When he does eventually mention his decision to her, he says to her “Be innocent of the knowledge dearest chuck, till thou applaud the deed…” (Mac.III.ii. 45-46). This is showing that he is no longer being influenced by his wife and that she has no power of the actions that he takes.
At the beginning Macbeth didn't want to hurt anyone, but in the middle of the play his wife Lady Macbeth had wanted to be queen so she had convinced Macbeth to kill King Duncan. He was going to go through with the plan but she made it to where he was convinced even more. The downfall was that he had been under her control so much that Macbeth had not only killed King Duncan he had also kill seven other people that had been in his way of the King. And the full change of Macbeth was that he had once been a nice man and then he had been changed into a killer just because his wife wanted to be queen. I believe that If Lady Macbeth didn't get full control over Macbeth he would still be a nice man who doesn't want to hurt anyone and if he did he
Without a doubt, Macbeth is to blame for his own downfall due to his ignorance of Lady Macbeth and the witches’ manipulations, paranoia of losing the throne, and his vaulting ambition. Firstly, Macbeth is ultimately responsible for his failure because he was unaware of his surroundings and did not understand that he was being manipulated by Lady Macbeth and the witches. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth is first manipulated by his cold-hearted wife Lady Macbeth who wants to kill King Duncan so that she can become the Queen of Scotland. “What beast was’t then / That made you break this enterprise to me?
In drama, curiosity is often a trait that is undesirable in heroes, as now we know that curiosity is what can often lead to a downwards-spiral of ignorance. In Shakespeare's Macbeth the Weird Sisters were responsible for Macbeth's downfall, as they were the ones who sparked the ambition to be king all by teasing Macbeth by predicting his future. On the contrary, Sophocles’ "Oedipus Rex," is much different, as Tiresias tells Oedipus his fate in order to protect him, sending Oedipus on a journey to his own doom lead by his own ignorance. Minor characters in drama obviously have a great impact on the advancement of the plot; as in the case of Oedipus and Macbeth, their downfall was caused because they teased their tragic flaws such as ambition
Has anyone ever wanted to do something even though you haven’t considered it until someone recommended it? Everyone must have had that feeling once whether it would be about choosing classes or trying for a sport. If you are one of those people then don’t worry because in “Macbeth” a play by William Shakespeare shows how someone with pride and honor can transform into a power-hungry dictator and tyrant. I believe that the character most responsible for Macbeth’s downfall is himself, because he had become ambitious and power-hungry to stay as a king and rule Cumberland. Admittedly, people might say that the witches were the reason why Macbeth had become such a monster and evil king because they planted a seed on him .
(2.2.45-46) “These deeds must not be thought after these ways; so, it will make us mad.”. In sum, while it is true that it may have been fate, or the witches, or Macbeth and his tragic flaws are also to blame for Macbeth’s downfall, I believe that Lady Macbeth had more to do with his
There were many wrongs committed in "MacBeth." But who should bear the major responsibility for these actions? The witches' prophesising? Lady MacBeth's scheming and persuasion? Or should MacBeth himself be held responsible? No doubt the witches and lady MacBeth influenced MacBeth in the course of action he took in his rise to power, but ultimately he must bear the major responsibility for his fate.
Lady Macbeth? The driving force behind Macbeth’s downfall? Certainly not. Macbeth was completely and solely responsible for all the acts of great evil which were to lead to his downfall, and to even suggest the blame can be shifted on his wife is ludicrous.
Why Macbeth Caused His Own Downfall Macbeth is ultimately responsible for his own downfall. He let his ambition control him, he didn’t think of the consequences to his actions, and he gave in and listened to Lady Macbeth and the witches. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth was noble and brave, but as the tragedy goes on he becomes a murderous tyrant. He becomes his own worst enemy that lead to his demise.
General Statement: Some people believe that everyone’s destiny is already written in the stars, while others believe that everything that happens to a person is based on their previous actions. One of Shakespeare’s famous plays, Macbeth demonstrates the tragic downfall of the main character (Macbeth). The play contains many supernatural aspects. An ongoing debate is whether or not Macbeth’s downfall is the result of fate or freewill. Although a lot of things interfere with Macbeths decision making, ultimately Macbeth is responsible for his ignorant actions, that lead up to his death. Fate cannot be put to blame.
The Tragedy of Macbeth is a very, very accurate name for this play, especially the ‘tragedy’ part. Macbeth was a loyal, noble and brave man at one time, but power and ambition consumed him and turned him into a monster. He is nothing but a shell of who he once was, led astray by the Three Witches’ prophecies, his beloved Lady Macbeth, and even his own character. Macbeth, even though he is hugely influenced by the witches and Lady Macbeth, is mostly responsible for his downfall. He is a tragic hero, blinded by his own ambitions and hunger.
The great and admired Macbeth, turns everything for the worst. Macbeth is at fault for his downfall and the murder of King Duncan. With that being said he made his own decisions throughout the play and even though there were other characters who could be to blame for “influencing” Macbeth, he still made his own choices which lead to his downfall.
