Was the United States Justified in going to war with mexico. The United States had no reason in going to with mexico because the americans were stealing from mexico, and that president Polk was trying to take over california which was still owned by mexicans. This was why Americans went to war with mexico.
Most people from America were stealing from mexico. Many of Americans had an eye on california and tried to take over california to manifest destiny. Americans brought outlaws to mexico. The outlaws did not obey the law which it made mexico a more dangerous place. While Mexicans were trying to protect their border, Americans were attempting to make an attack on mexico taking all their land.(Doc C) “ half of the country of mexico was taken by the United States as a war prize.”(OV) “Might justly charge our citizens with disgraceful robbery while in seeking slavery.”(Doc D) The United States knew they were going to win.Americans crossed over to mexican lands for no

“Slaveholders crossed the Sabine River between Louisiana and Texas with their slaves , in defiance of the mexican ordinance of freedom.”(Doc D)”Mexico was Catholic, anti slavery and wanted to keep Texans under their control. The American settlers were mostly Protestant, pro-slavery, and largely ignored Mexican authority.”(BE) This brought the extension to Slavery to mexico. Mexico didn't like slaveholders to crossing over to mexican territory this made mexico a slave country. Americans crossed over to mexico to steal their land and take over part of mexico. Many of the people from america moved over to mexico for no
Many americans claim that it was a good idea to disobey laws and steal from them, but it was really unjustified. If Mexico were to have disobeyed U.S. laws and steal from them, the U.S. would have made a bigger deal over the situation. This argument was to show that the U.S. had really no proper reason into going to war with Mexico. The reason why the question shows us whether or not they were justified or not is because no one knows technically who started the war and who was really telling the truth. All we know is that the U.S. was really being unjustified. The reason it is important today is because many of the situations they faced is also happening to this day, especially in other
Mexico was only protecting themselves only 16 Americans died the amount of mexicans died is still unknown. Yes, Mexico did fire first but they were just defending themselves. The Mexican War was north bank of Rio Grande in 1846 to 1848. Before the Mexican War, there was the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. It was about 10 to 12 years before. Which people could have been mad about still so it probably caused tension in the Mexican War. So, did the U.S. have the rights to go to war with Mexico? The United States was unjustified in going to war with Mexico because America had no respect, took away Mexico’s rights, and James K. Polk was land hungry and selfish.
In 1846 Americans stepped foot on undisputed land, leading to war. The war itself happened on April 25, 1846, north of the Rio Grande River. Americans and Mexicans (after the annexation of Texas) both thought that they had the right of land between the Rio Grande and the Nueces River. With that information, was it right for America to go to war with Mexico? My answer is no, it was not justified because before that war, Americans had already taken land from Mexico, invaded land owned by Mexico, and that there was a misunderstanding with the land disputes.
Most people forget about the Mexican War in 1846 because right after it the Civil War happened. In the end of this brutal war 14,000 Americans died and 25,000 Mexicans died. The Mexican war was fought in 1846 when the Americans went into Mexican territory and a skirmish happened. This made President Polk declare war on Mexico. Was the U.S. Justified In Going to War With Mexico? The word justified means the right thing to do. The U.S. was not justified in going to war with Mexico for two reasons; it may expand slavery and we took land from Mexico.
In all because of the the war, slaves ran away to Mexico and expanded which was not
After Mexico had declared their independence from Spain, Americans were encouraged to settle there, as population was sparse. Americans were sold land at a low price as long as they agreed to follow Mexican law, which mean slavery was prohibited. Despite their instruction, Americans brought over large amounts of slaves anyway (Document D). As Americans began to outnumber Mexicans, nothing could be done to enforce the “Mexican ordinance of freedom” (Document D). Mexico did nothing to wrong the United States in this situation, and certainly not anything that would warrant a
Mexico wanted to negotiate the problem in peace and did not want to start a war with the United States. The United States didn't wish to do any negotiation with Mexico they wanted the land and that was that. Mexico became angry at the United States for only giving them two options. Mexico would either always be a slave state to the United States or Mexico wouldn't surrender and they would go to war. The annexation of Texas to the United States was a violation of the 1828 Border Treaty.
The Mexican-American War was a huge event in American history, yet it is not talked about very often. It all started back when Texas was annexed to be an American state. Mexico saw this as a declaration of war. The war officially began on May 9, 1846 when Mexico fired upon the U.S. from their side of the Rio Grande. Though this is not a very popular topic, the questions still stands. Did the U.S. have a valid reason for declaring war on Mexico? The United States was not justified in going to war with Mexico because the U.S. attacked first, they stole Mexico’s land, and it meant an expansion of slavery.
The Mexican-American War was a result of Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny was a belief that Americans had a god given right to expand their border all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Not only did Americans believe that they also had a right to the land, but they also believed that they had a moral duty to civilize its occupants, which included Native Americans, Mexicans, and Spanish speaking Catholics. According to Britannica, the Mexican-American War originated from the United States annexation of Texas in 1845. Texas had been in a border dispute with Mexico at the time of the annexation therefore, the conflict transferred to the U.S. Mexico claimed that the border ended at the Nueces River, and the United States claimed it ended at the Rio Grande River.
United Mexican States was weak and was just forming Mexico’s government, and the only people that Mexico could not control was the Americans. The Americans even got special treatment and the Americans still rebelled. “One way to increase the population was to welcome settlers from the United States.” (Background Essay Paragraph 3) With Mexico being weak, anti-slave, and just getting formed the Americans were not happy with how it was being run when they showed up. Congress also stated “...Did not want a large slave territory to be added to the United States.” (Background Essay Paragraph
According to Charles Sumner, from “Objections to the Mexican-American War”, he states, “Our (American) Newspapers excited the lust of territorial robbery in the public mind.” This quote shows that even a state legislator from Massachusetts admits that the United States stole land from Mexico. In another quote from Charles Sumner’s “Objections to the Mexican-American War”, he states “Certainly Mexico might justly charge our citizens with disgraceful robbery.” This evidence shows that the United States already stole land from Mexico and that it was unjust to go to war with
[On December 29, 1845, tension between the United States and Mexico arose due to the United States’ annexation of the once Mexican territory, Texas. Through the annexation, Mexico recognized that Texas’ border laid on the Nueces River, whereas the United States saw that the border was on the Rio Grande. Henceforth, both nations considered the territory as its own. Consequently, this minor dispute resulted in a strain of the United States and Mexico relationship. Further on, the struggling relationship continued to exacerbate.
How the United States stretched from sea to shining sea by being fair and unfair sometimes. The Mexican war started on April 25, 1846 when Captain Seth Thornton of the United States Army and his 70 sailors were attacked by greater Mexican force. This happened in the disputed territory north of the Rio grande, reports say that 16 Americans were killed and the number of Mexican soldiers that were killed it unknown. Was the United States justified in going to war with Mexico? The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because of manifest destiny, border distributes, and annexation of Texas.
The American and Mexico war had an effect on many people all around the world. Many people also stole things and killed each other just so they can live and be free. The war between America and Mexico had many conflict between each other. Many amount of lives was lost, and half of Mexico’s territory was lost. Not so many good things happened, like many tensions had emerged between Mexico and America. The U.S was more unjustified than justified for many different reasons. Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself was unjust because they wanted to protect the citizens, U.S wanted to expand slavery, and sent soldiers to their land which they thought was going to be a good idea.
The United States war with Mexico continues to be a diverse topic. The United states lived under the Constitution of freedom, equality, and the belief that the expansion of the U.S. was inevitable. Upon the belief and desires of the Americans, the United States saw the opportunity to annex Texas from Mexico which caused a feud between them. This later on caused a two year war that took the lives of over ten thousands people. Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself was unjust because of the actions of the greedy Texans, the unethical use to expand slavery, and the selfish philosophy of Manifest Destiny.
