Since cell phones are everywhere and have become one of the most helpful tools of our generation, they have their drawbacks. The use of cell phones happens everywhere today, one place being the hospital. From a study of phones and spreading of bacteria associated with health care associated infections, Karabay states, “Our study reveals that mobile phones may get contaminated by bacteria (such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae), which cause hospital infections, and may serve as a vehicle for the spread of nosocomial pathogens” (Karabay, 2007). Dirty hands is the common source of spreading infection. It is very important to keep hands clean to avoid getting infected and spreading infection in the community. It is important to wash hands to keep hands clean. There are two ways to keep hand clean, one way is wash hands with soap and warm water while rubbing hands together for minimum 15 to 30 seconds. Indication of washing hands with soap and water is when hands are visibly dirty, before and after eating, feeding, using the toilet, after coughing or sneezing, after using gloves, taking care of patients. “Patient-centered care would allow for the dental hygienist to form a working relationship with his/her patients.” I think that is great that you think that because it seems like a lot of offices I know they have like a patient quota that they have to meet each day. Dental offices should not be like a drive through at a fast food place with just clean teeth then off you goes. Hygienists should be able to connect to their patients to have a better understanding about their dental health and overall health. We are proud to be hygienists because we can say that we help our patients one way or another to better their
America has been fighting a long war with drugs and the many diseases that are spread due to drug habits and dirty needles. Many people believe that the cure to solving this widespread epidemic is The Clean Needle Exchange program; this is a program that offers clean needles to drug abusers and also counseling to reduce the need for drugs. Though there are definitely benefits to the program it does not come without pitfalls, the programs have received a great deal of controversy because some people view it as drug promoting and supporting. The program is also funded by taxpayers which has sparked a lot of criticism and created the ban on needle exchange
Clean needles should not be distributed to IV drug users. The reason for this is because, it is promoting illicit drug use, making drug abusers assume that it is ok to abuse drugs, and it will only put their life in more danger. To be clear, I am not presuming that they should use unsanitary needles, because not only would they be damaging their body by abusing drugs, but they are also putting their life at risk for contracting some type of infectious disease. Consequently, they should not be provided with any needles at all. Providing them with clean needles will only increase the rate of drug use. Furthermore, providing these drug users with clean needles is against the law. Since when did promoting illicit drug use became ok? Additionally,

Hansen’s conclusion does have parts that I agree with but as humans there are still factors we can’t control. For example, By washing our hands more than usual there is a greater chance for us to not transmit germs to others and if others do transfer them to us we have the alternative to wash our hands ,but, is not impossible for germs to sneak up on us. In paragraph 11 it shows a result of how “80 percent of common illnesses develop as a result of face touching with germ-laden hands”. We do have discovered that there is ways germs can be carried on other than by direct contact. They can be in the air or in objects such as the remote control that its sitting on the couch. This brings me to question if washing our hands can save us from illnesses

Recent studies show that at any time, over 1.4 million people worldwide suffer from hospital-acquired infections (Public Health Ontario). In Canada alone, approximately 250 000 patients every year contract infectious micro-organisms from their healthcare providers (Nagel 18). At London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) we take pride in providing world class care in a safe, comfortable environment for patients. However, between 2008 and 2010 the LHSC still had between 20 and 30 per cent non-compliance to proper hand-washing protocol (Nagel 20). This data is very troubling considering it is following the launch of “Just Clean Your Hands” pilot project. As student nurses and volunteers of the LHSC team we are equally responsible to increase hand-washing compliance.
Many people are concerned with finding ways to fight the effects of aging, but some habits we have may get in the way of that objective. Eating unhealthy foods, drinking and smoking, and lack of sleep can all take a toll on your health, as well as the way that you look and feel in general. Such habits may also age your skin before you’re even aware that it’s happening.
