Known as one of the greatest activist and leaders of all time, Martin Luther King Jr. played an important role in ending legal segregation of African-American citizens throughout the U.S, as well as the creation of the Civil Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Throughout his life, King has received several prizes and among them, other honors for his truly amazing and inspiring accomplishments. Throughout my presentation, I will talk about his early life, his education and spiritual growth as well as his numerous accomplishments and importance in changing America’s ways. Early Years: King was born on January 15, 1929, and he was born as Michael Luther King Jr, but then later changed his name to Martin, following the footsteps of his father who had also changed his name from Michael …show more content…

Washington High School. Martin was a precocious student who excelled throughout his classes. He skipped both the ninth and the eleventh grade and later entered Morehouse College in 1944 when he was only fifteen. At that time, Martin was beginning to question religion in general and was uncertain about some religious beliefs, to a point where King refused to enter the ministry with his family. This eventually faded away when King began taking a Bible class in his junior year which renewed and deepened his faith. He also began envisioning a career in the ministry. Education and Spiritual Growth: In 1948, Martin Luther King Jr. graduated from Morehouse College earning a sociology degree. The same year, he moved on into attending the liberal Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania. In 1951, King was elected student body president and valedictorian of his class. During his years at the seminary, King Jr. rebelled against his father’s conservative ways by drinking and playing pool. He was also involved in an affair with a white woman and went through a very difficult and rough time before he could break it
