If you were in a war what would you be fighting for? Some people fight for what they believe in or their country. The Civil war was a battle between the Union and the Confederate. This all started when Congress passed the Missouri Compromise. This limited the amount of slaves in the South due to a new boundary. After a while, Congress voted to repeal the Missouri Compromise. Instead they passed the Kansas - Nebraska Act. This gave the chance for Kansas and Nebraska to if they wanted slavery or not. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected president. He was against slavery which caused South states to secede. A year later a war broke out between the North and South called the Civil War. Many Texans fought in the Civil War because they loved Texas, state’s rights, and to preserve slavery. …show more content…

This is one reason why Texans fought for the Confederate. Many Texans were missing there home. They missed their family, friends, and expectually Texas ( Document D). People, that were Texans, went into war to protect Texas and their families. Some people didn’t have choice because they got drafted. Many of them were very loyal to Texas they even stayed in the war for four years ( Document D). Most Texans enlisted for Texas service only which showed they were only fighting for Texas (Document D).
Texans fought for Texas also because Abraham Lincoln didn’t approve of state’s rights (Document C) . Texas wanted state’s rights so they could seceded even though Sam Houston (first governor of Texas) disagreed. Since they though it wasn’t fair, Texans could be fighting because of state’s rights. O.M. Roberts, president of Texas Secession Convention, says that the U.S. government is a blended mass of people in one social compact (Document C). This tells us that Roberts didn’t like the U.S. government and wanted Texas to secede from
