How would you survive if you were on an island with other little kids? Lord of the Flies was written during World War 2 however it was based during the Cold War. Ralph, a major character in the novel, allegorically represents the leader of the rest of the boys. Ralph believes he is the leader over everyone else. Ralph believes that he is the leader and feels like he has something to prove, ignores what Jack and his tribe thinks, and acts different from
Ralph shows a great of courage and determination to be rescued, during his time on the island.Ralph commitment to society and morality is strong, and all he wants to do is leave the island and go home.As a leader,Ralph has to set an example for the boys on the island, and has to face many obstacles alone. This is why Ralph has to show courage and determination. "Ralph went for the end of innocence , the darkness of a mans heart, and the fall through the air of a true, wise friend called Piggy (Golding 225).This quote concludes the novel and shows how Ralph is relieved and accomplishes his goal of being rescued, and how he reflected back on the memories on the island, the memories of his good friend Piggy. Just before Piggy died he makes a valiant
Who do you think should be the leader in the novel “Lord of the Flies”? Should it be Jack, Piggy, or Ralph. They all have some type of leadership quality, but Ralph deserves to be the leader in many ways. Some say that Ralph is not able to accomplish being a leader, but truth be told, I think he is the most responsible one out of the Biguns.
In the novel the lord of the Flies, Golding uses Ralph’s responsibility and Jack’s persuasiveness and authority to argue that effective governments must be both fair and able to keep peace in a country.
The existence of mankind on earth relies on various factors. The basic needs for us humans to survive are food, water, shelter etc. These though, are only the physical needs of man. Humans also have social and mental needs. These needs require us humans to have law and order to be able to coexist peacefully with ourselves, nature and the environment. The only way that law and order can be achieved in human society is by a higher authority, or some form of government and/or leader. William Golding tries to touch on some of these aspects of our civilization through the various characters he creates in his novel, Lord of the Flies. Leadership plays a very important role in the novel as it does in real life for us, because the characters need
In the United States’ past, the elected Presidents have been blamed for many catastrophes. This includes hurricanes, the Gulf Oil Spill, the decline of the economy from sending jobs overseas and the greed of Wall Street, home foreclosures, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, on the island, Ralph is in charge of all of the boys. Even though there has been so much chaos since Ralph was voted leader, he is not solely responsible for the chaos that has occurred. The boys themselves are responsible for all the things they have committed.
A leader is someone who has determination. They are willing to do anything to benefit other people in order to help lead them to greatness. When I think of a leader, the people that come to my mind are those who have helped change the world. This includes George Washington, or Martin Luther King. Jr. I definitely do not think about Ralph from Lord of the Flies when I think of a leader. Some people may argue that Ralph kept the group together and knew what was best for the young boys. However, I am aware that Ralph had good ideas. For instance, the signal fire which, in the end, helped the boys get rescued was a good idea. Despite this, Ralph did not do an altogether good job at holding the group together. By the end of the novel, one boy went missing, two of his friends were murdered, and Jack's tribe had almost accomplished their goal of hunting Ralph down and placing his head on a stick.
There are many ways a person can be a Hero! Sometime it is the main character of the book, or sometime it could be an average person. In Golding’s book “Lord of the Flies”, Ralph is being portrayed as the leader and the hero. In the story the Lord of the Flies it’s about a group boys on a island after their plane is shot down. Since they are alone, they are free from the rules of civilization and society. This will lead to slowly descending into savagery. Soon the boys start having conflicts and they split into factions. One faction members are peacefully and work together to maintain order and achieve common goals. While the other faction are rebels
Even good people can do terrible things if put in certain situations. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, innocent boys become cruel murderers when they were stranded on an island with no adults. This was the result from the actions of the characters, change of behavior, and symbolism.
In the allegorical novel,"Lord of the Flies", by William Golding, the protagonist, Ralph, is chosen as the leader by a group of boys who are stranded on a deserted island. As a leader, Ralph had motivations that influenced his decisions, as well as contributed to shaping up the rest of the story. Because of Ralph's leadership qualities and choices, I feel as though he did contribute to the tragedy, but may not have been able to prevent some of the deaths for many reasons.
The most significant person in Lord of the Flies is Ralph. Ralph is the main character in this book because it revolves around him the most and his points of view. Ralph’s biggest disappointment would be civilization falling apart by savagery. By the end of this book, Ralph and his friends start to lose sight of humanity and how they should act. Ralph keeps most of humanity intact. But his biggest disappointment in this book would be losing his own humanity and the way he should act. Ralph is extremely disappointed that they all lost faith in themselves and didn't see the bigger picture. That's what Ralph’s disappointment would be and was by the end of this book.
LOTF - How would you characterize Ralph? Cite textual evidence to support your opinion of Ralph please.
Ralph got the opportunity to have power over all the boys; Jack could not avoid the democratic rule. This shows Ralphs confidence with being a leader as he shares some of his power with Jack, getting him on his side. Ralph takes in account the needs and desires of the rest of the group, setting him up to be a good leader for now. This is Ralph symbolically discovering man's dark side. He understands that order and intellect are among those that can keep the evil at bay.
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, I would have followed Ralph because he’s the best person to be the leader. Ralph is the best person to be leader because he isn’t just thinking about himself, he’s also doing all he can to keep everyone on the island safe as possible. While Jack is worried about killing a pig for food to eat, Ralph could care less about eating, he would rather get everyone off the deserted island by making a fire as a signal for help. Ralph has the best leadership skills. He shows these skills many times throughout the novel, and these qualities are what made me want to follow him. He showed his true leadership ability through his determination, intellect, and generosity.
