Throughout Voltaire’s Candide, the author criticizes many different views, beliefs, as well as people. Voltaire is in no way afraid to share his views or point out the flaws with what someone else might say. Through his writing he has figured out ways to make criticism come across as humorous and less offensive than what they actually are. Much of Voltaire’s humor in this novel derives from his use of irony, which he employs to criticize philosophical and religious ideologies such as Manichaeism, race, and the Enlightenment.
