The poem is an extraordinary example of the journey of a human being. The poem has described the journey of a human being’s life and his desires, fascinations and at last realizes that everyone’s ultimate destination is death and he is suppose to fulfill his responsibilities and several promises that he has made before the inevitable hour. Meanwhile the beauty and the worldly attractions stray him for some time from the reality of life but soon he realizes that he has to fulfill several works and duties towards his people, before he goes to sleep forever. Hence, he moves ahead. Background of the Poem The background of the poem sets a scene in which, we are introduced with an itinerant passing through the snow covered forest on the darkest evening maybe it’s the month of December, as he says that it’s the darkest evening of the year. He is lonely traveler though his horse is with him. There’s a lake between the forest and his destination. The snow is falling up from the sky. That gives the idea of a serene and beautiful sight. In the end we can say that it’s a panorama of life symbolically represented in the form of this beautifully poem “Stopping by woods on a Snowy Evening”. About the
The poem as a whole appear to be a metaphor for, or symbolic of the depression and loneliness felt by the speaker . In the very first line “I have been one acquainted with the night” (I. 1), tells that the speaker knows of the ‘night’ (a metaphor for loneliness and depression). The speaker also personifies the night by being ‘acquainted’ with it. In the second line, the usage of the word ‘rain’ is a metaphor for life’s problems, which the speaker seems to be immersed with . In the third and fourth lines, the speaker uses hyperbole when he says “I have outwalked the furthest city light/ I have looked down the saddest city lane” (I. 3; II. 1), a feat not humanly possible, because the farthest city light would suggest the end of the city, and the word ‘saddest’ is a relative emotion. The words “city light” is also symbolic of a community and friends, which the speaker is trying to

The night symbolized death, and the walk was the person's journey to find their lost life. This poem was somewhat disturbing to me. I thought of a lost soul, thirsting to finish a mission that was not completed in life. Frost depicts death in a frightening manner with the contents of this piece of work.
In this poem an unnamed narrator is traveling with his horse through the woods during snowfall. The narrator is mystified by the beauty of the dark snowy woods and would like to ask in its beauty but cannot. “My little horse must think it queer/ To stop without a farmhouse near” (5-6). The narrator is simply taking in the view and ambiance while the horse finds this peculiar. This is not normal to the horse; there is nothing around that it is familiar and he questions his rider’s choice. Although the rider would like to stay in the forest he understands that this is not what he is supposed to do. “The woods are lovely, dark and deep, / But I have promises to keep, / And miles to go before I sleep (13 – 15). The narrator enjoys being alone and this is apparent by his description of the woods. Most people would not describe the woods as dark and lovely but instead would describe it solitude and gloomy. Frost uses the words ‘But I have promises to keep’ the audience does not learn what the promise is one can make an assumption. Like mentioned before, one can say that the narrator is regretting the choice not stay in the woods but may have a family to care for. They may already be living in the American dream yet may not find it satisfying but have to uphold

“Good fences makes good neighbors,” is a small portion from the Mending Wall written by one of modern times most proficient writers, Robert Frost. Two of the critical articles I examined were quite helpful in gaining a better understanding of the “Mending Wall” and also of Robert Frost’s poetry. The Gale Research shows the best and most effective understanding of the “Mending Wall,” mainly because it deals specifically with that poem. It basically states that the poem is built around two attitudes, that of the speaker, which the Gale critic presumes is the poet, who is imaginative and an independent thinker and that of the neighbor, who prefers not to question anything (Gale). The other article deals more with other poetry that Robert
“Nature is always hinting at us. It hints over and over again. And suddenly we take the hint.” This quote was taken from Robert Frost and demonstrates his feelings toward nature. Robert Frost is a well known American poet who draws on nature as the subject of his poems. There are three main things that account for Robert Frost’s poetry.
