A week after Jonas and Gabe left the community, Jonas was struggling to find food for the two of them. He was running out of ideas but remembered the huge forest to the right of the road that they were walking along. Jonas was tempted to go in the forest to get food because he saw many different varieties of wildlife and knew after the memory of the elephant being killed by humans to get the elephant’s tusks and for meat, but he wanted to see what was at the end of the road.
Jonas was telling Gabe, “ I think we should take a break to refill on food.”
Gabe nodded his head as both of their stomach grumbled in hunger. Jonas saw in the memory of the humans killing elephants that the humans had sharp weapons so Jonas got to it and found a

Jonas told Gabe “ once my stick is sharp, I will get us food, then I’ll cook the meat after I cut off the fur. Once we get the hang of it and we cut off enough fur than we can switch our raggy, ripped clothes for the fur.” Jonas saw in another memory that people would kill animals for their fur which they would then trade that and then people would make clothes out of it such as hats and coats. The giver told Jonas that it was called the fur trade and that they would kill mainly beavers but Jonas wasn’t going search for beavers because the giver also told Jonas that beavers lived up north which was once called Canada. Jonas was finally done carving his stick. He put Gabe on his back and remembered that there was a river near by. He got there after a ten minute walk and never hoped so hard in his life that there were fish in the river. Only a minute in the river, Jonas found a fish. He didn’t want to make too much noise, so he slowly and carefully pulled out his sharp stick and took a huge swing at the fish and missed. Five minutes later, Jonas was still trying to hit this one fish. Gabe started to laugh. It almost looked like a game until…
Jonas said “ I can’t hit this stupid fish!” Gabe said in a cute way “Throw”
Jonas threw the sharp stick like a spear into the water and on his first throw he hit the fish. Jonas jumped in excitement and then started to laugh and said “ Haha I..I can’t believe that actually worked.”
Jonas ran to where he built the
Jonas was not feeling great but his dad helped him by telling how his ceremony went. "You know his father said, every December was exciting to me when I was young." stated the story. This shows that great things can happen to him to him even the ceremony. Jonas just needs to chill and be calm and focus on it.
The child isn't growing at a normal rate, which means that he will be "released" if he doesn't begin to grow the way he is supposed to. For Jonas Gabriel is a symbol of hope, and starting over. Because Gabe is just a baby and has not conformed to the rules of this society Jonas can show him the memories that he receives, and he does so because he feels that the baby could be a new beginning. All of the memories of the past that Jonas receives, show him how the society that he lives in is constricting to the people. He is genuinely scared of what could happen if he or Gabe stays where they are. This shows that although Jonas wouldn't want to break the rules, he feels the need to protect baby Gabe, and would go to any lengths necessary to do
“‘Have a heart,’ one of them said. ‘We’re hungry.’ Jared’s breath came fast. ‘We’d be happy with the guts,’ another of them said to him. ‘You don’t even have to give us the bellies.’ Jared stood, stunned frozen.
When Sheila and the boy were on their way to the band in Dixford, the boy forgot that he put his fishing pole in the water when he was waiting for Sheila. He saw that he caught a bass, a huge bass in fact. He had found out that Sheila does not like fishing, “I think fishing’s dumb” (Mcdougal 29). So the boy had to pick between the two, and he picked the girl. He cut the line and let the bass go (Mcdougal 30).
It was the third night of the hunt, and his food was half gone. If
I look back at my oatmeal, and then I start putting the brown deliciousness on top. When Fredrick joins the table, we dig in, we all eat in silence until we're all finished. Once I'm finished, I begin to to speak. "Hey Zach, last night during our talk. You mentioned something to me about Nora's wolf gift, but what is a wolf gift?" I ask.
This is when Jonas finds out that when people are released they are not taken to elsewhere but are killed. This traumatizes Jonas and this is was a big part in making Jonas want to leave the community. He and The Giver come up with a plan to help Jonas escape but everything changes when Jonas finds out from his father that Gabe is going to be released. Jonas risks his own life and instead of following the plan he leaves early on his father's bicycle and takes Gabe with him. On this trip he bikes nonstop throughout the night and shares memories of cold with Gabe when the search planes come to try and find them.
I know this because as stated by Jonas after he figured out that Gabe was going to be released “ He had taken Gabriel, too” (166). This supports my claim because Jonas was making a good decision of saving Gabriel’s life, therefore Gabe was not released. Another piece of evidence is when Jonas was starting to regret leaving because he was starving, but then he realized that “If he would have stayed he would have lived a life hungry in other ways. He would have lived a life hungry for feelings, for colors, for love” (173). This supports my claim because he made a good decision by leaving his community so that he could enjoy the feeling of love and feelings, and the sight of
Jonas wants to leave the community so that all the memories would go to everybody, but then he heard that gabe was going to be released so he decided to take gabe with him. The sighnificant passage that relates to the theme is “He tried to relax ,to breath evenly. The room was absolotely silent, and for a moment Jonas feared the he might disgrace hiself now,on the first day of training,by faling asleep. Then he shivered.
“It has been 20 minutes and I have not caught anything!”Fred screamed. He was about to give up because he didn't think he would catch anything. But just then his rod got stuck in the water, and he could not get it out. ‘’I am going
When he woke up, it was about seven o’clock. Adam walked outside and saw this big, furry thing lying by the smoky fire. So Adam went over to look, and sure enough, it was the grizzly bear that had taken his fishing rod. The bear was fast asleep, but Adam started walking towards the bear to grab his fishing rod. Without even

“ King Stephen fought that beast a hundred years ago, ” Henrik stood beside the flyboat's main mast when he spoke in an informative tone. “ My father and I were escorting King Stephen and his men over the Lazuline when it attacked us. Damned beast surprised me so much it felt like the food in my guts were going to burst out of the other end! ” Henrik smirked and
All week at school all Dan thought about was his uncle coming up and going fishing. It was saturday a week after his older brother Dean shot a deer, and his uncle was up. Dan asked his uncle if he wanted to go fishing. His uncle said
Carefully, he brought his spear back and with all his strength, lunged forward to stab the fish. But he missed. He tried again. And missed. And again and again and again. Getting frustrated, Henrik threw is spear down into the water. When he went to pick it up, he realized it was exactly where it looked to be. That's why I've been missing he though.
