The Legend of Zelda is an video game series created by Nintindo, and is one of the most iconic series in video games. In many ways The Legend of Zelda revolutionized the video game industy and made it become what it is today. So what made this series so recognizable? The open world? The sound track? The adventure? Or just the sheer thrill of figuring out one of the game's many puzzles? To answer that let's take a look at the history and evolution of The Legend of Zelda.
The creator of Legend of Zelda, Shigeru Miyamoto was inspired by the hillsides, forests, and caves outside his home when he was a boy, he wanted to make something where people could explore and have fun in a fictional world. This drove him to

This game was proof that that Nintindo was willing to experement with the game formula. The mechanics of the game were drasticly changed, but the basic idea was the same. The game was not as successful as the first edition, it recieved multiple criticisms despite selling over 4.3 million copies worldwide. However, by 1992 The Legend of Zelda series was back on it's feet and stronger than ever with the release of it's third game, "Link to the Past". It was released for the Super Nintindo Entertainment System (SNES). The SNES was able to handle better graphics and the cartridge could hold more data, one megabyte, in the case of Link to the Past. Because of this Breath of the Wild is the biggest and most expansive game yet. One of the most defining features of the new game is the addition of voice acting (all dialog is spoken rather than just having text across the screen). Breath of the Wild has already recived multiple great reviews from critics and casual gamers alike.
The Legend of Zelda revolutionized the video game industry and community. From the first time playing it, to the 100th time beating the final level, Zelda has been enjoyed by millions over the years. Wether it be the Original, a Ocarina of Time, or Breath of the Wild, this series is a timeless classic that has been around for over 30 years and will still be here for many years to come.
The very first ‘Video Game’ was invented by Edward U. Condon in 1940, At first it was a simple game called ‘Nim’. In nim players try to avoid picking up the last match. Thousands of people played it, although the computer won at least 90% of the games. Around ten years later in 1950, a new computer program was created by Claude Shannon for the game of chess. In autumn of 1972 the first gaming console was released by ‘Magnavox’ and they called it the Odyssey. Three years later, the next big gaming console arrived when Sears sold the first ‘Atari Pong.’ This was the beginning of a long partnership between Atari and Sears. This relationship lasted multiple years, and Sears sold several successful games. Multiple years later in 1985, Nintendo released the Nintendo Entertainment System. This new gaming console dominated the Gaming Industry and grew Nintendo’s Company. Nintendo created several gaming console legends, such as the Game Boy, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advanced, Nintendo Gamecube, Gameboy Advanced SD, and Nintendo DS, all of which made a huge impact on everybody’s childhood from 1985 to 2005. In the late twentieth century and early twenty-first century Playstation and Xbox also started releasing consoles. They are still to this day making successful Gaming Consoles, and individual games, as well as Xbox and Playstation.
Legend of Zelda is arguably one of the most popular and successful video games of all times. The first version of this game was released in the 1980’s and has attracted an army of fans. The game and its story have evolved over time but the main characters and the feeling has always remained the same. And if you are a die-hard Legend of Zelda fan surely you can’t be without a Legend of Zelda tattoo?
Miyamoto designed three more games for Nintendo’s franchises, 2 for Mario and 1 for The Legend of Zelda, and also created another memorable series called Star Fox. Miyamoto used the new hardware in the console to allow the game to have an early implementation of 3d graphics. Just 10 years later Nintendo would release their second biggest console to date, which was named the Nintendo 64. Miyamoto designed Super Mario 64 which would pave the way for many more 3d platformers to come later.
The Nintendo brand has changed over the years, starting out as a simple card company that has expanded into the massive electronic giant we know today. They have had their ups and downs through their time as a gaming company but they always have the gamer’s interest in mind. As the late CEO of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata said, "On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer" (Yu, E., & Chan, W.
However, as the Wii’s target market is slightly different from that of either the Xbox 360 or the PS3, it is of less concern in the short-term. Nintendo’s dominance of female console gamers, however, is of serious concern. In 2008, the Wii outsold the PS3 and Xbox combined, indicating Nintendo’s strength in the market, as well as the growing eminence of female gamers as a target for game and console developers.
B. The Success of Disneyland inspired Walt Disney to create Adventureland which he described as a “far-off region of the world.” C. Nintendo is taking the world by storm with their new Nintendo Switch. Many gamers enjoy the Switch because of its mobility and motion controls. The remotes are different from any Nintendo console but it does have some similarity to the Nintendo Wii controller. Most games for the Switch have multiplayer compatibilities but some are solo games. The Legend of Zelda is one of the most popular game series from Nintendo, lucky for us they released a new game in the series for the Switch called The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It is an open world game where you go around solving puzzles, battling enemies, and solving the mystery of what happed to
Open world game is the game that players can go around the world without limitation. It is one of popular game genre for people to explore the game, but it is also one of the hardest concept for game developer because the game requires to show various places with no repetitive contents. For example, The Division, open world third-person shooter game in 2016, successfully showed destroyed New York City with natural color, but it failed to give various contents with good gaming experience. Another example, No Mans Sky, open world action adventure game, had a huge world with different planets, but it failed to show different atmosphere of environments. However, Breath of the Wild solves these problems well. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released in 2006 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim didn’t debut until 2011, leaving fans to wait four long years before the next rendition came out. This is fairly common with Bethesda Softworks to wait half a decade or longer to release a big title; however, they do release smaller ones in between mostly using models and scenes from previously created content. This is not an easy strategy to uphold as the game has to stay fresh to player’s years after release to keep them entertained long enough for the next rendition to premier. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim achieved this so much that in October of 2016 Bethesda Softworks released The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition as its “new” iteration for the series five years later. Skyrim was so overwhelmingly popular that Bethesda could get away with spending the half a decade they usually use developing a whole new Elder Scrolls game to just enhance the previous version. This leaves many wondering how an offline single player game is so good that gamers will not just buy it once, but twice and continue playing it for essentially ten years. The answer lies within its immersion and endless expansion such as player classes, roles, decision making, and community
A brief history of the Legend of Zelda series and how it still makes waves
With the competition in the video games industry getting more intense, the next steps of the video game companies become more crucial for their positioning on the market. Due to the low product differentiation, the next market leader will be the platform provider that manages to offer an innovative gaming experience and a wider population of buyers that include all demographics. Although the industry is being totally dominated by Nintendo’s console, the industry is still considered to show a
New IPs are refreshing but in this realm, they're pretty risky, not only for the developers but also for the gamers waiting to purchase it. While it's true that Zelda is becoming tiresome featuring the same stories that's been told for ten other titles and same mechanics that existed since the N64 days, it can be just too hard to ditch the good old familiar Link for strangers like Darksiders or Edge of
Over the years gaming has evolved from what it once was. From the Magnavox Odyssey to the PlayStation these consoles along with video games have changed history. Ever since the release of the tennis game, video games have had its ups and downs. But we're here to talk about the two video games we found most important: The legend of Zelda and Mario
One of Nintendo’s most distinguished franchises is the Legend of Zelda, and this year marks the 30th anniversary of the acclaimed series. Over the past three decades, not only has the series grown, but it has also assisted in helping to advance the video game industry. Many modern day action adventure games owe a lot to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and the franchise continues to innovate by introducing new gameplay concepts. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary, 2016 celebrates the 10th anniversary of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which launched on GameCube and served as a Wii launch title in 2006.
The role of technology is vital in this industry as it focuses on technological efforts for competitive advantage. Every new development uses new technology. Though there are restricted innovations in the gaming industry, the speed of technological transfer is very high. Nintendo’s role from playing cards to toys to video games and then with each console introduced, included many technological changes. Technological up gradation increased hardware costs and discouraged innovation. The online capability of Nintendo Wii was a major change in the technology of the video game industry though they were not able to do as well as their competitors (Sony, Microsoft).
