The Chinese Civil War, like the American Civil War that predated it, was largely centered in politics and control. The primary cause of this war was the fall of the Qing dynasty and the political vacuum that was created as a result of constant uprisings and clashing ideals.
The Chinese were familiar with living under the rule of dynasties, having done so for an upwards of 2000 years. However, when the final ruler of the Qing dynasty, Sun Yatsen, sat at the helm, some believed (and even hoped) that he would usher in a more democratic form of government to mirror the Western world.
