I heard a knock at the door. It was my best friend Greta! I was excited to see her, but something wasn't right. She looked absolutely terrified. I had wondered what had happened ,but before I could ask she said,"Heidi, I went home after dinner--my family Heidi!” She was crying hysterically. I replied, “I’ll tell you tomorrow.” She said,”It can’t wait till tomorrow!” She had finally told me what had happened her family was taken. I din’t know what to think. I told her that I might be able to help, however I don’t really know. I went to my bed. I couldn’t sleep almost whole night. Greta’s words thundered in my mind. I wanted to help her, but I din’t want to hurt my family. I knew that if I helped her that my family could get hurt. We could all get hurt.
After school Katie rode the bus home and went up to her room to look for her earplugs. She could not find them everywhere she looked so just gave up after a while. A few days later a couple of the family’s belongings had gone missing. Sophie lost her puppy that could dance when you pressed it’s paw, Will had lost his bright green work gloves, and Celeste had lost her brand new necklace that said mom across it. One night when everyone was in the living room Will walked into the kitchen and heard a muffled screaming sound he ran into the living room and everyone was just normal sitting on the couch. “Hey why were you guys yelling?” Will asked. “Dad we weren’t yelling.” Katie told him. “ I just..” Will stopped. “Never mind, I guess.” Everyone just ignored it and went off to bed. In the middle of the night Celeste woke up and went downstairs to get a glass of water. When she was walking down the steps she heard a wierd sound like somebody was whispering. She stopped for a second and ran back to her room to get her phone. She flashed the light off her phone up and down the steps still hearing the voice she got nervous. When she walked down the steps she couldn’t hear them and when she walked to the top of the staircase she couldn’t either, but when she was in a particular spot in the middle of the staircase, she could hear the voices. She put her ear up to the wall very slowly and heard the noises more clearly. All of a sudden she heard “SLAM”. She took her ear off the wall and ran upstairs. She woke up Will and told him what she heard, but when he checked there was nothing. “Maybe it was just rats or something.” Will suggested. “I know what I heard there were voices!” Celeste tried to explain. Will told her that he would call an exterminator to check it out.
James turns around, sees her. He immediately rubs his pant legs fast. They cross over toward each other.
Anase wakes up from her bed and sighs. Mother knocks on the door, “Anase, you awake?” Anase doesn't answer and her mother opens the door, poking her head through the doorway, “Honey, someone’s here to see you.” Anase’s heart stops, she could only guess who. Coming down the stairs, Anase immediately recognizes the very tall hooded man who turns to her and smiles too fakely, “You ready, Anase?” Mother smiles, “Of course she is, aren't you Anase?” Anase smiles too horrified to say no. The man, Ender, grabs her arm, “We’ll be back Mrs. Ora.” Anase looks pleadingly back at her mom, who had closed the door.
No longer since the sun went down, Allie made her way down the fire escape from her small city apartment and walked a couple blocks to Carson’s house, passing two homeless men sitting on the sidewalk holding up, ‘I lost my family and my job. Care for some change’ signs, and a police cruiser hidden in the alley way. Allie thought about the homeless men without much food. All they wore were dirty and ripped clothing with scruffy faces; they probably had not showered or shaved in sometime. She wondered if she had been homeless, would she be sitting in front of coffee shops begging people for money because she was hungry. If it wasn’t for Peter, to find her in trouble, she would have be one of them.
“Oy!” The apple-stand woman yelled after him, as he lunged over her small display. “You off your chumps?!”

Santiago lived in a poor neighborhood for his entire life with his mother and older brother. His mother worked 3 jobs to support their family because their father left to marry another woman and leave her in the dust. She never let it get her down. From the start of schooling he was intelligent, he got good grades and wanted to learn. When Santiago was 7, his brother always started fights with their mom due to the fact that he was jumped into a gang. She didn’t want her son to be shown that type of violence that she tried to avoid as a child. Hearing all of this yelling made him desensitized to it. At 14 Santiago was lured by his brother to his gang by saying that he was going to take him and go and see a movie and was “jumped” in. He was beaten to near death. He was carried back home by his brother. His mother saw him, she started to cry and called the hospital and was rushed there. After that, he was accepted into the gang. He changed drastically. He used to be in all the honors classes and participated in sports. Now he got failing grades, turned rebellious, and became cold and distant. His mother felt so disappointed in him. He had such a great future to leave this horrible place, and he threw his gift away. Santiago became engulfed in rage against his brother. He had the realization that because of him, he lost everything. He took out all of his anger on him and beat the absolute shit out of him when his mother was at work around 12 PM. New Year's Eve on the beach, black as the never ending space. The beach spread around the verge of the city consummately blending with the rocks and boardwalk, Dazzling glistening water reflecting from the bright full moon. 11:57pm, it was about to be 2020. I felt the clock ticking in my head counting down the seconds, I already had my resolution... Take risks. I stood up, looking around the beach at the lines of people on blankets. Couples sharing a romantic kiss in the moonlight. Most of the families, parents sharing a bottle of wine and the kids being spastics, going skits and running round like crazy. I looked at my watch, 11:59 , and I looked at up in the sky and the countdown starts, 10.. 9.. 8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1... I look around for the fireworks, bewildered but all I see is a light in the distance. I squint and see a light that looks like a muffin. I laughed but shock hits me as the whole town's lights go out. I stood surrounded by cold darkness and stale, dusty air. Babies cry, children scream, it's utterly pandemonium. I hold my little sister Ruth. “everything is grand.”

In the early morning of Sunday, a very beautful young lady by the name of Jaidan awoke stranded in the woods. She had heard much rumors about these very woods. The village people said the woods were haunted with ghosts and talking trees. Although, Jaidan didn’t believe the stories, she was still frightened. She had no idea how she got there, or how she was even going to get back.
In a town called Death Valley, a little 9 year old boy named Scott lived with his mom and dad. They lived in the middle of nowhere with just a forest in their area. His parents were not very nice and didn’t make a lot of money because all they did was go to parties. Scott had no friends and he just had a rusty old xbox he found in his house. Scott was always left home alone and his parents would not come home until 3 in the morning.
“Of course!” I yelled as I leapt over the glass and onto my bed. I had ran into my bookshelf that held my 30 pound mirror, which was now in pieces all over the floor, my bed and everything else. It wasn’t the first time I had broken a mirror so I wasn’t very surprised. It was just my luck.

Early in the morning, a little boy was playing in the sand. In the market, a little girl was running around, slipping through people and pick pocketing them. They were both around the age of 9. The girl was wearing a dirty white dress that went down to her ankles with no shoes on; her hair was long and was a golden color like the sun. She sneaked out before anyone realized they were being robbed and ran towards the beach. He did not see the girl who was coming up behind with a wooden sword in her tiny hand.
