Williamsburg Colonial was originally referred to as the Middle Plantation and the Revolutionary City, although in the beginning, it was just a royal colony that later transitioned into a republic state, with a new self-government. It became a republic after great efforts and debates from extraordinary men such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Patrick Henry, to name a few, that sought to improve the principles of liberty. The city of Williamsburg underwent several transitioning periods with the first being that it became the capital of the Virginia Colony in 1966. The colony remains important to American history because it is where the contemplation began for freedom and independence, and it is where the ideas of freedom and independence transpired and took shape. More importantly, it is fair to say that from 1699 to about 1780, Williamsburg was the most populous region of the British Colonies in America; it was also the most culturally influential, the center for educational progress, and political events. The events would later shape the government, and the future of the United States of America. …show more content…
The city has a rich and diverse history, including that of black, white, and Native Americans, to include slaves, indentured servants, and the free, and the separate challenges they face daily, as well as how they came together to fight for freedom. Historians have often debated the true definition of American Revolution, whether the Revolution was a conservative movement led to maintain the power of those at the top of the hierarchy or a radical movement that set a process of transformation of society and brought a new type of democracy to the colonies. Professors Wood and Nash clarify the true purpose of the movement and its outcome in their writing’s. Professor Wood explains to readers that the American Revolution was a radical movement that transformed society and state in the colonies, while Nash sees the revolution as a conservative movement of alarmed white male leaders whom sought to contain the revolution. Many historical texts about the American Revolution and the events leading up to it are generalized, unspecific and do not investigate the preliminary causes of the changes America underwent before the Revolution. However, A New England Town by Professor Kenneth Lockridge attempts to describe how the colonies in America developed by following the progress of a typical Puritan colonial town, Dedham, Massachusetts, from its inception in 1636 through its first one hundred years. It is Lockridge’s belief that colonial history can be better learned through thoroughly examining one specific town instead of shallowly studying many.
The book tells the story of how the American Revolution affects the city of Concord, Massachusetts. The American Revolution was a battle between the united thirteen colonies and Great Britain. The thirteen colonies fought for the independence under the control of Great Britain. The Treaty of Paris ended the war and the American colonies won their independence. There is no actual event that is proven to be the cause of the war, the war began as a disagreement of how Great Britain treated the colonies. The American colonies felt as if they should have the equal rights as the Englishmen. Britain however, believed that the colonies should be treated in a way that was best suitable for Britain. This event caused most of the up roar of the American
Virginia became a state on June 25, 1788. At that time, it was number ten 10 of the thirteen 13 colonies. England’s Virgin Queen gave Virginia’s name to the colony; Elizabeth I. Jamestown was the first capital of Virginia. The current capital of Virginia is called Richmond.
Virginia has a high amount of contributions to our history. It held Richmond, which was the capital city in the civil war for the confederacy. Virginia also housed two of our nation’s most important towns: Williamsburg and Jamestown. About 150 years after the colonial era, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation was formed. The Foundation wanted to honor one of four buildings in our history by putting the selected building on a coin. Those four buildings are the Governor’s Palace, the Bruton Parish Church, the Capitol, and the Magazine. That building has to show importance in the past and today. It also has to have relevance to The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. I believe that the Magazine in Williamsburg deserves the coin most.

The federal government moved many times in early American history. The American Revolution lasted from April 19, 1775 to September 3, 1783. Philadelphia was the capital of the country for most of this time. On June 20, 1783, many soldiers in the Continental Army protested against Congress in Philadelphia. The soldiers demanded pay for their service during the war. Pennsylvania’s government refused to guarantee Congress’ safety. As a result, Congress decided to move the capital to Princeton, New Jersey.
During the time of the Stuart kings and their squabbles with parliament, the colonists generally self-governed and were developing their own culture as English colonists in America. The colonies of America had finally reached a point of administration, when Charles the 2nd returned to the throne in 1660. Yet, the colonies were still not as vigorously watched over, in contrast to the Spanish and French colonies in the America’s. The failure to develop a strict and successful colonial administration would become important to history because when Britain was ready to really take the reigns of America, the colonists had already developed the idea of independence, it was too late
The colonists’ daily life revolved around the church, today it is still used and the fact that future citizens may learn the value of history are all reasons that Bruton Parish Church is most deserving of the Williamsburg commemorative coin.
