The clergy, the nobility and the poorest citizen. The first two had all the power, the poorest citizen paid all the taxes and lived in very poor and unfair conditions, and so they wanted more rights. The intellectual causes were growth of many ideas, for example that everyone is born equal and the influence of America. The social causes were growth of industry, rise of middle class, increasing poverty and the growing burden of feudal dues. The 1848 revolutions were defeated, but there was still hope.
