What is a radiologist?
The medical field is full of many different career paths. Some choose pediatrics, some choose geriatrics, some choose oncology, and some choose psychology. However, only a few choose radiology as a career choice. Radiologists are medical specialists who use radioactive instruments and x-rays to diagnose and make treatment decisions regarding health problems. They examine various types of images including x-rays, computer tomography (CT scans), mammograms ultrasounds, and magnetic resonance imaging scans (MRI). Radiologists are skilled in operating machinery, monitoring imaging sessions, recommending courses of treatment, administering nuclear medications, examining patients, recording medical treatments, and …show more content…

This can vary based on experience, education, and work setting. Clinics and hospitals may have to work weekends and evenings. (InnerBody) Often radiologists are on call even when physically not at work. It is a struggle of balancing a career in this field with a family life. Radiologist should acquire a flexible in order to come into work at abnormal times. This lifestyle can be very exhausting and tiring.
Dr. Michael Daniel, a radiologist at BSA, answered questions pertaining to his job. When asked how his job affects his life outside of work he answered, “It is more emotional than physical. Finding a brain tumor in a child can have an emotion pull on some of us. Having to break bad news to families is the most difficult part of the job. Other than that we are constantly at risk for cancer.”
Radiologists prove the saying; hard work pays off, “as a pre-med student at WT… you had to meet the prerequisites in math, biology, chemistry and physics. Then I moved to med school, got good grades there and then had to complete a four year radiology residency.”(Daniel) Colleges that offer a radiology program include but, not limited to: Stanford Brown, Argosy University, Kaplan University, Keiser University and Walden University.
