Old Major was one of the old, wise pigs. He was sort of the leader of the animals. He had a dream of a rebellion on the Manor Farm. He doesn’t think he’s going to live much longer so he calls all the animals into the big barn. He tells them his dream and the animals go berserk over it. He then teaches them an old song called the “Beasts of England” and before the night is over each animal pretty much has it memorized. A few days later Old Major dies. Napoleon and Snowball are both pigs. They always contradict one another. Whenever a debate is being held it is always Napoleon and Snowball arguing about something. Old Major was also the one who started the fire in the animals to rebel.
The animals want to revolt because of the way they are being

Every human is ran off the farm by the animals. The animals start harvesting food and eating much more bountifully than they’ve ever had. A few days later Jones and his men as well men from neighboring farms try to take back the farm. The animals were prepared for this and had a defense plan set up. The attempt to take back the farm was a major fail.
The Animal Farm is run by the 7 Commandments as well as the pigs. The pigs are considered the most intelligent species at the farm. They don’t really do the work they just tell the animals what to do and how to do it. They plan everything out and strategize. Napoleon and Snowball are the top 2 pigs. Squealer is just the persuader and message delivery pig.
The farm is run fairly at first but, after a while the pigs seem to be getting the better food. The cows’ milk is being mixed only into the pigs mash and the pigs also get the last of the apples. The other animals start to think about this but, Squealer then reassures the animals that the pigs’ intelligence is the highest and that the health of the pigs needs to be preserved. The animals of course buy into this reasoning and continue to go on with their daily
To fully take control over Animal Farm, the government spread the message that the farm could not prosper or function without the pigs. This message allowed the pigs to gain many privileges in the farm without question. From the very beginning of the story, the other animals regarded the pigs as the smartest of all the animals in the farm. Because of this, it was naturally assumed that the pigs should lead the farm into rebellion against the humans and guide the animals into a better life. However, the pigs gained more control than the other animals thought they would. The pigs, especially Squealer, convinced the other animals that they should be allowed special privileges because they were shouldering the most “burdens” of all the
From the very beginning, Napoleon and the pigs take charge and make the other animals do the work for them, while the pigs just supervise. In chapter three, when they begin working on plowing the fields, the pigs do not do anything other than tell the others what to do, “The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the other” (20). The pigs, from the very start of animal farm, took charge and only directed and told others what to do. They solidified their positions as leader’s right at the beginning of the farm. Also, at the end of the book, the pigs, to show their leadership, carry whips around to make sure the work gets done, “After that it did not seem strange when next day the pigs who were supervising the work of the farm all carried whips in their trotters” (92). Since the creation of the farm the pigs started to slowly present the fact that they would take charge, and in the beginning when they were nice about it no one argued with them. By the end though, the animals finally realized what had happened, but by then it was too late for them to do anything about it. Admittedly, Napoleon and the rest of the pigs are greedy because they take all the extra food and make the others work like slaves, but that does not make them ineffective in the ways they make the animals work. Napoleon showed his effectiveness as a
When Major, the leader of the animals dies, Snowball and Napoleon take charge of the farm renaming it Animal Farm. While Snowball has the more level approach to ruling the farm,
To begin with, Squealer is a false propaganda machine. This heavily affects how Animal Farm has its downfall. For instance at his manipulative nature, it was stated by Squealer “But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be?” (59), this shows how easily the Squealer can control the thoughts and beliefs of the animals. Although the animals already participate in more strenuous amount of labor,
This leads to the animals to finally discover his true colors. After Snowball was ran out of the farm all public meetings were canceled. When Napoleon announced, “ that from now on the sunday morning meetings would come to an end. They were unnecessary and wasted time. In the future all questions related to working on the farm would be settled by a special committee of pigs presided over by himself.” , he is no longer allowing the other animals input on situations. When they were under the care of Jones they still has some say on what went on. Now under Napoleon's authority they are left with no say so on what goes on. This shows he only cares about what he has to say. Now that he has stripped the animals of their opinions , his judgement is the only thing that goes. This builds to Napoleon's ego and how he assumes he is above everyone else. He doesn’t care for anyone else unless it somehow benefits him and this shows he abuses his power as
Jealousy is one flaw that farmers surrounding Animal Farm possessed. They were jealous of the fact that the animals were doing their jobs effectively and the fact that the animals’ plans were being carried out successfully. The animals had been building a windmill to help with their production on the farm. One day the farmers decided they would try to overthrow Animal Farm and give Mr. Jones his position back. However, the animals wanted to fight for what they had worked hard for. The farmers halfway succeeded by completely obliterating the animals’ windmill. When the windmill was destroyed by the farmers, the other animals realized that they couldn’t build it the same way or else the same thing would happen in the future. “Still, it had been decided to build the walls three feet
Through this claim, Squealer makes the animals think that the pigs need and deserve the milk and apples, despite this not being true. In reality, the pigs are beginning to get their own way and gain without doing work, just as Jones used to do. However, because of Squealers deceit and persuasion, the animals do not notice these similarities and believe everything is being done in the interest of the
Squealer is expressing to the other animals that it is scientifically proven and absolutely necessary for the well being of a pig to eat the milk and apples. He also mentions that without the pigs the farm would not run as smoothly as it does. Squealers word choice causes the animals to believe him and allow the pigs to have the apples and milk. The animals are being taking advantage of, but they don't realize it, because of the pig's way of manipulating. “He would be only too happy to let you make your own decisions for yourselves.
The animals of Manor Farm, later known as Animal Farm, rebel against Mr. Jones and his men, driving them off of the farm. The name of the farm is then changed to Animal Farm, a farm which belongs
After the animal uprising on the farm, a rule system is put in place, and all animals prosper under the equality of their newfound society. Three pigs, Squealer, Snowball, and Napoleon all establish themselves as important figures of power on the farm. “EVIDENCE.” They are powerful right from the start, for they were the ones who proposed the uprising in the first place. Each and every animal has their own job and place under “Animalism”, which were the general rules of the farm animals new lives. “EVIDENCE.” No animals are corrupted or suppressed by other animals, and life for them is going just swimmingly. Every animal is living its ideal life, all equal parts of the society that they helped make.
Jones, the abusive farmer that was forced out of the farm by the animals. Squealer is frantic to attain the apples and milk and will not cease to manipulate and exploit the other animals into accepting and embracing that the pigs should be the sole beneficiaries of this indulgences. Through concealing their true scheme, by means of deceiving the others, the pigs are shortly capable or receiving whatever they desire with minimal opposition.
The animals will eventually get tired of the way they are treated by the humans and will try to rebel from the humans, but because they need humans to survive, they will fail miserably. Animal Farm: Chapter Two Summary After Old Major died all the other animals started planning for the rebellion agents the humans. The pigs are placed in charge of educating the animals about animalism. The name they give to the philosophy expounded by Major in chapter one.
The story starts with the scene with twelve-year-old Major predicts a future rebellion of animals in a meeting. After Major passed away, with leading by two young pigs named Snowball whose character is based on the elements of Leon Trotsky and Lenin, and Napoleon, the animals broke into the grain bins and finally they were succeeded to drive the owner of the farm off. For the
On page 19 of his book Animal Farm (1946), George Orwell states that “Snowball and Napoleon disagreed at every point where disagreement was possible. […] But of all their controversies, none was so bitter as the one that took place over the windmill”. While Snowball argued that “a windmill could be made to operate a dynamo and supply the farm with electrical power”, Napoleon insisted on increasing food production. In his book “Trotsky”, French historian and Trotskyist, Pierre Broué claims that Leon Trotsky and the Left Opposition favoured rapid industrialisation because they believed that it represented a threat of 'Capitalist Restoration’, because of their international isolation and the internal development of bourgeois forces. On the other hand, Joseph Stalin and the Right Opposition opposed this tendency for fear of the consequences a heavy industrialisation would have over the peasants, who constituted more than 80% of the population of the Soviet Union. Joseph Stalin wanted to be sure that land and food production was under the full control
While under the rule of Mr. Jones, the treatment for the animals is less than ideal. Jones doesn’t feed the animals which causes them to revolt. The animals go wild on Jones and his men until they flee the farm leaving the animals on their own. Once Jones and his men are gone, the pigs on the farm take this opportunity to gain control. Since they are the smartest, it is easy for them to reign over the animals on the farm. Not only do they make rules, they run the meetings and make decisions for the animals. Once Jones is overthrown, the animals all contribute to keep the farm going and they are more than happy until Snowball and Napoleon want the power over the farm and all the animals.
