John Adams was the second U.S. president. He had a political record before presidency as well. He also served as vice president. He only served one term but was a “good” president. In this report I think that John Adams will be a good president and have a good reputation. John Adams was born in Massachusetts, on October 30, 1735. He was a Harvard educated lawyer, he became identified with the patriot cause. A delegate to the first, and second Continental Congresses. He also led in the movement for independence. Adams began his career as a lawyer, he was intelligent, patriotic, opinionated, and blunt.(US presidents book/ Marc Fray, and Todd Davis). During the revolutionary war he served in France and also Holland in diplomatic roles. He also help negotiate the treaty of peace. He has first gained public notice when he went to persuade the French the leave the Ohio Valley as they threatened to drive out the English (“George Washington”). This began to what is known as the Seven Year’s French and Indian War. After this war, many taxes were created to pay for the debt of Britain Protection. New Englanders felt the taxes were an abuse of power and began an American Revolution at Lexington and Concord in which Washington joined the Continental Congress and was named the Commander in Chief of the Continental forces. He led the forces to a moral boosting victory at Valley Forge against the British. After the war, he became the most important man in the country (“George Washington”). Washington retired from the army and became elected the first president of the United States after the new government was formed. When he retired from office he had given his ‘Farewell Address’ speech that included two main priorities for the success of America: no political parties and no foreign affairs (Williams). Although tensions between the French and British were inevitable, Washington was vital in the victory of the later Revolutionary War from the military knowledge he gained from the Seven Year’s War. Boston was not the city it is today during that time. He was one out of eleven children. Most of his brothers and sisters did not live past the age of three. In fact, only two lived past the age three sadly.

He spent a few years in the senate, and then in 1809, James Madison appointed Adams his minister to St. Petersburg. He helped to bring about the end of The War of 1812 by help negotiate the Treaty of Ghent in 1814. After the war was over he became the minister to London in 1815. Then in 1817, James Monroe appointed Adams his secretary of state.5 Adams supported protective tariffs and federal programs that were intended for internal improvements. He was also had a much more formal manner than the other candidates.6
John Adams followed George Washington as the second President of the United States during the years 1797-1801. During his term in office, the Quasi War occurred. This was a naval war fought between the United States and France which lasted two years from 1788-1800. This undeclared war was historically significant because Adams led from a position of peacemaker.
John Quincy Adams was one of the better, if not the best US President that America has ever experience as a democratic leader. He provided America with many attributes and pathways to a better life by "[gathering] together, [formulating], and practicing the fundamentals of American foreign-policy. John Adams position as a Federalist further helped in association while negotiating with Britain over the norther border of Canada, however, John Adams was stymied by a Congress who was more controlled by his enemies during the time period than his allies and with his lack of patronage networks helped politicians eager to undercut him.
