Why Did Rome Fall

While this expansion was due to many reasons, not the least of which was greed, to a great extent it was made possible because of Rome's overwhelming military and its combination of a democratic and republic government. For a long period of time, Rome seemed like an unstoppable empire. It conquered the majority of the land surrounding it, including Greece, Turkey, Iraq, and many of its other neighboring countries. It seemed as though Rome would conquer the entire world, as it was the center of it, until it began to decline in 476 C.E. Ancient Rome grew from a small town that was on central Italy's Tiber River into an empire that took up most of Europe, Britain, western Asia, northern Africa and the Mediterranean islands (History, n.d.). The Romans had huge lands that were very difficult for one person to control which made it extremely easy for invaders to take advantage and invade their lands. The three invaders that came from Asia were the Huns, Vandals, and Ostrogoths (Doc C). The invasions were mostly unexpected by the Roman people and thought they could easily take them off, not until suddenly three groups arrived at different locations that slowly weakened down the locals and armies at Rome. Like waves, Rome once was tall and strong, but eventually, every wave comes crashing down. Starting around 750 BCE was a strong and powerful empire- Rome. After fighting to get territory and succeeding, Rome took over places such as the Mediterranean sea and colonies in North Africa, the middle east, Egypt, and the asia minor. Caesar became a powerful emperor and led Rome to a time of peace (Pax Romana). Rome rose, but like most, eventually fell due to laziness, then causing invasion.

Rome was one of the most powerful forces in the Mediterranean at their time in power. They had their first major victory in the punic wars against Carthage. This win provided them with more territory and power, and soon enough they used this to conquer the rest of the Mediterranean. But they didn’t stay in power forever, eventually they did fall. The question is why? The most contributing reason to Rome’s fall was its poor leadership. That’s right, it wasn’t just the power of other forces, Rome fell from within.

The Roman army became over-stretched and need more soldiers. All of these bad things added up and collapsed the Rome Empire. The barbarian invasions was the last cause for the Fall of the Roman Empire.

The fall of the Roman empire was due to many things. Three of the main reasons were that Rome was so big that the borders couldn’t be protected. Most of the emperor's were assassinated or killed and battle, the currency went downhill which destroyed trade, and many Germanic tribes attacked at around the same time and took over Rome. The end of the Roman Empire is mostly caused by these reasons. Since Rome was so massive the outskirts of the empire was not very well protected which made it easier for attacking cities to just walk on in.

What were the primary reasons for the “fall” of Rome? Rome fell because of 3 reasons. These reasons are foreign invasions, Military weakness, and political leadership. One of the reasons are Foreign Invasions because of the time period where all the invaders comes from. On document C it shows that two of the invaders made it to rome and partially caused the fall of rome.

First, the Roman Empire grew too big, some areas became unstable and attracted many invaders also called Barbarians. The Barbarians all came to Rome and attacked. Farmers from tribes threatened Rome’s borders due to their weak armies. Then, in 27 B.C.E, Rome became an empire, but emperor idea only lasted for 50 years. After that, the Roman Empire turned into a dictatorship and then to a sluggish place with no motivation. The Roman Empire was a vast territory that expanded to three different continents.They were a place of honor, tradition, and respect. Rome has had several different periods, some of peace, and some of violence or unrest, but those were solved quickly and effectively. However, such a magnificent empire could not hold up under the strains that were slowly causing it to collapse. Rome began to face many problems that together allowed the fall of the Roman Empire. The three main problems that caused Rome to fall were invasions by barbarians, an unstable government, and pure laziness and negligence.
