Animals do not only need, us but we need them too. Animals are used mainly as companions, but they can do so much more for us. Animals improve people’s everyday lives by helping with disorders and disabilities.
Dogs are very good at helping treat a disorder called PTSD. Lots of people with PTSD have trouble getting to sleep at night. But dogs are very good at treating this disorder. It has been said that dogs are able to alert you if you are having a nightmare or are in any real danger. In the article, Why Dogs Heal PTSD, Tracy Stecker states, “Dogs are vigilant. Anyone who has ever had a nightmare knows that a dog in the room provides information. They immediately let you know if you are really in immediate danger or if you have just had

It has been proven that dogs will never judge you, or never not love you. In the article, “6 Ways Dogs Help Ease Depression Symptoms,” Therese states that, “As far as we know, dogs are without opinions, critiques, and verdicts. Even if you smell like their poop, they will snuggle up next to you.” This is very good, because most people who suffer from depression are very sad. But if you have a dog that always cuddles up next to you, you will not be as sad. Which means that you are slowly being cured of your depression. Dogs also have the ability to alter our behavior, and get our minds off of the bad things that happened throughout the whole day. Also in the article, “6 Ways Dogs Help Ease Depression Symptoms,” Therese says, “ I would come through the door in the evening and I'm annoyed. At what, I don't know. A million little snafus that happened through the day. I am dangerously close to taking it out on someone. However, before I can do that, my Lab-Chow walks up to me and pats me, wanting some attention. So I kneel down and pet her. She licks my face, and I smile. Voila! She altered my behavior.” This can help you out a lot. If you have depression, and you have the same attitude every day, nothing is ever going to change. But if you have a dog to get you to forget all the bad things that happened that day, you will be happy, because your attitude has
Scientists have observed people training their dogs. These were people with some trauma. The conclusion of the study was that dog training can indeed help people overcome medical problems. Dogs usually have unconditional love, and they are very loyal as well. This makes many people's hearts warm up. It gives them that empowering feeling they need to overcome their setbacks in life.
Pets can aid people suffering from depression by helping them ignore their problems for a period of time, and contribute to clearing their minds. Routine is also important for people who are depressed, and pets require daily routines, such as feeding times, walks, and downtime.
The benefits of animal-assisted therapy towards children varies, one of the benefits is to be able to bring out the best out of the child. The animal could connect with the child spiritually and could improve self-esteem because the child would finally feel accepted by the animal (Weston, 2010) as this quote stated, “A therapy dog may be the first creature who has listened and responded to the child with such enthusiasm and compassion. This can result in the child feeling heard and important” (Pichot, 2007 cited in Weston, 2010). The animals are capable of taking the pressure off the child as s/he is going through a difficult experience and being forced to deal with people, the animal can take up the role of being the child’s supporter. Animals can be used as a “bribe” because some children does not want to attend to therapy but is willing to show up because of the animal which is good because in the end the child would be able to receive the therapy s/he needs. Animals that are trained to be assisted therapy animal are capable of switching its beneficial roles to be able to comfort
Emotional support animals can take on a multitude of jobs that “may include reminding the handler to take medicine, providing safety checks or room searches, or turning on lights for persons with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, interrupting self-mutilation by persons with dissociative identity disorders, and keeping disoriented individuals from danger,” (Brennan). These animals are often considered pets but are actually so much more than that, emotional support animals have a very important role in protecting the mental health of their owners and keep them safe. Not only do these animals protect people’s mental health but they also give people a purpose. Taking care of one of these dogs or other animals gives people something to take care of and focus on. Knowing that there is another living thing that relies on them can be very grounding and keep people connected to something outside of themselves.
Main point one: Companionship is important to have in your life, even if it comes from your dog. When life gets stressful it’s nice to have a companion to play with, take a walk with or even cheer you up. Companionship can be hard to come by with humans sometimes and easily found in dogs. While their personalities vary according to the breed of the dog, one characteristic remains the same, their loyalty. Dogs make great listeners, maybe because they can’t tell you to stop talking, but either way they seem to listen with interest. Many dog owners find themselves telling dogs things they can't seem to tell anyone else. This is what makes dogs good therapeutic animals. A dog is an especially good animal for someone who lives alone or suffers from depression. Having a dog present can also help people who have suffered a tragic loss in their life and need the company of another life for comfort. I know from my personal experience of losing a loved one, what a dog can do to help you through. Owning a dog gave me responsibility at me weakest and gave me a
Every year there are well over 7 million cases of PTSD that are announced (Kledzik). A small percentage of the people on Earth at some point in their life span will have some form of PTSD. A solution that will be able to help these people is commonly referred to as “man’s best friend.” For many years PTSD dogs have been useful to relieve the severe symptoms of this disorder. They have proven themselves to be more than just an animal. Post-traumatic stress disorder dogs are far beyond just man’s best friend; they protect the protectors far after the wars end.
As you can see dogs and humans have similar psychological disorders and they are all treated in a different way. Often dogs are used to help humans overcome certain disorders or as a comfort to help with the disorder. Humans are not alone and dogs often struggle with the same
It has been studied that animals help with emotional support. I’ve heard that just the purr of a kitten and the presence of a dog can help someone with an emotional condition. I believe that this is true. I’ve seen a bunch of people who have these animals, mostly known as emotional support dogs. The United States Dog Registry states that emotional support dogs are dogs that provide comfort and support in forms of affection and companionship for an individual suffering from various mental and emotional conditions. These dogs assist with conditions such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder/mood disorder, panic attacks, fears/phobias, and other physiological and emotional conditions.
Dog Therapy has been a huge help with many different people with different illnesses and disorders. “It is believed that when Petting an animal is believed to cause the release of endorphins (feel-good neurotransmitters) which can have an extremely positive impact on patients dealing with depressive disorders.” (DogTime Pet therapy and mental health ). Dogs have been more of help to humans that are healthy and others that are not they affect us and we usually take them for granted. Therapy dogs are a huge influence on humans with illnesses and disorders and well as with ordinary people as companions.
Connection to an animal can improve our lives in many ways by protecting us or by helping us walk around. My dog Harley protects us when we sleep or when we are injured. Another way that he can help us is if he hears a noise that none of us can hear he will bark trying to tell you that he hears an unusual noise. This dog helps my family out big time. My other dog Bella is trained to bite anyone that tries to injure us. This dog protects my family from anyone bad. This already shows us what my dogs do but there are also other ways dogs help us including vets that help out other dogs.
Well, when it comes to certain emotional/psychological disorders, companionship can be a major service, which cannot always be provided when pets are not allowed where they are sometimes needed. David Long, a veteran, needs his dog to help him get used to being a civilian again, but his living space does not allow pets (David),”‘She gives me structure, a routine, something that’s embedded in the military that you kind of lose when you get back to civilian life,’ Long said. ‘For people that have PTSD, anxiety and are transitioning back to being a civilian, it helps out a lot. It just makes sense.’”(Long’s Quote) So in this case, companionship can help someone that is dealing with PTSD and other hardships get through them. In other cases, dogs could help inspire people with social issues by showing care and no judgment. Jordan N. Putz, B.S.W says in his research paper,” The findings indicated that using therapy dogs in schools could benefit students by serving as an intervention and helping students learn skills that result in better connection and relationships, and skills that can assist with self-regulation and self-control,” (Therapy dog help) which is done through the comfort of companionship (Paraphrased Quote). This means that through the companionship of therapy dogs, students have learned to deal with control issues, and have learned relationship and social skills,
illness on an animal due to the fact that; the animal hasn’t live in the same situation as a person and the animal used as subject is doesn’t not have the same genetic background as the human. Which means that results on psychological testing are open to interpretation causing it to be much less accurate. Additionally, during the test for mental disorder the animal is being evaluated to predict factors that can increase the chances of a person being affected by that mental illness, and the three most common mental illness tested and experimented for are schizophrenia, depression and bipolar disorder (Nestler, Hyman). This demonstrates that unlike animal testing for medical researcher were scientist test to find cures or treatments, in the
Nearly any type of pet will have a very positive impact on people with mental illnesses. They are a great source of support, comfort, and motivation for their owners. In many ways, a pet can help people with anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder, live mentally healthier lives.
Fighting depression in dogs is similar to fighting depression in humans; if your dog seems depressed, try to increase your dog's level of activity and social interaction with other dogs by taking him for more walks or to a dog park. Even if at first your dog doesn't show any joy in these activities, if the depression is a result of boredom then he will appreciate it and begin to have fun again. Social contact is important for dogs; if your dog is kept at home all the time and rarely has contact with other canines, it will be important to get him some socialization time with other
They provide for us, they bring us happiness, even though some animals can be dangerous, some are not and they can be kind. Therefore, animal’s needs are just as high as people’s needs. Animals provide friendship, companionship, security, and service animals. Finally, animal’s needs are very important like peoples.
