Why Do We Need To Vote

Presidents, Senates, Chairmen, Congress, and Mayors all have three things in common. One, they hold extreme amounts of power; independently and as a whole government. Second, they citizens must elect them. Finally, they are put in office to serve and make decisions that represent us as a whole in a positive manner. It is very important to know the candidates and what they stand for because once elected their ideologies become ours. The history behind voting is interesting and imperative knowledge for all citizens of the United States of America. From living under the reign of Kings, to becoming free and able, we have fought many battles that were well worth the fight.

In “Race and Beyond: Why Young, Minority, and Low-Income Citizens Don’t Vote,” Sam Fulwood claims, “Regardless of whether a favored candidate won or popular ballot initiative passed, our nation suffered because of the number of people who didn’t vote at all” (par. 2). I agree with Sam Fulwood and I believe it is so unfortunate that Americans don’t use this right. Voting is one of the most valuable possessions that Americans are given and yet they do not use. Many of the countries around the world do not grant voting rights to their citizens. These countries either have a dictatorship or kingdom which prevents citizens from voting. As a United States citizen we are granted the freedom and responsibility to elect our government officials -the very people that make life-changing decisions for our country- yet some STILL do not vote. While it may seem to some that it is “just easier” not to vote, it is actually true that voting for who runs the country/state/county we live in, may ease the path we continue on for our upcoming future. It is our right, it is our freedom, it is our duty to vote. Do we not owe our founding fathers, who spent ages shedding blood, sweat, and tears for us to have this impeccable right, a simple vote?

The reason it's important to vote is because it shows the president integrity, and we need a leader for our country because there would be total chaos and people would be getting hurt. There would be no one to stop the stuff that would be going on, and no one could declare and control people from buying guns if they are a felon. A president needs to take care of the money system and all of the police, and medical system and how it works. If you are a adult and you vote you are a good role model. So when your kids get older and they can vote, and they will know how.

In the United States, everything seems to be done better than anywhere else in the world. The USA has great sports and music, many different cultures, a high literacy rate. These are among the things that make America the greatest country in the world. However, Election Day and voter turnout isn’t very respectable. In fact, the USA came in at 138 out of 172 countries that hold public elections, per the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance. Many people in the US that don’t vote provide a majority of reasons for not voting, such as: too busy, not interested, or illness/injury, according to statisticbrain.com.

Did you know there is an estimated 242,470,820 adults in America that can vote? Only around half of them voted. I think voting is important because it is a privilege. Today, Americans are taking elections for granted and many don’t feel the need to vote. Not all countries are given this freedom to vote. Every vote counts! Even though some people may think they are a small part of our country, their vote matters. Voting gives us a chance to make a change if we do not like the way something is being done. We also have soldiers that are giving their lives to keep our freedom. Nobody should complain about an elected official if they did not vote. In America you can vote, why?; because we have a democracy in which people are in charge and vote for what they want and believe in. Voting is a constitutional right in which all American citizens have such as my parents. My parents vote in what they believe in and my mom is even a politician so people vote for her. It's important to vote because we can express our opinions and it could change our future.

Do you understand that we could be forced to except a leader that we don’t like or even the leader might not like us? People take for granted that we have the ability to vote. In the United States of America we get the privilege to vote on the leader of our country, but so many of us forget that. 60% of people in America voted this year, and 40% did not. I think that is terrible because out of all the elections this was probably the most important one. .

I think that people should start voting with EVM machines because voters of different ages, races, and people with disabilities can use them as well. Technology is becoming a huge thing nowadays and people are going to turn more towards technology. The EVM machines are not connected to the internet so I do not think they can be hacked. In my opinion, I think we should start doing everything electronically.
