Why did you choose the song to analyse? What do you like about the lyrics and artist? I chose Sides by Allday. I find it a catchy song and I like the meanings. I like the lyrics because it is quite relevant to the modern era. I like the artist as he talks about his journey to being successful in most of his songs. He really gets across his ideas incredibly well with really good literary techniques. 2. What do you believe to be the main themes in the song? Identify a minimum of two themes and explain your response using direct quotes from the lyrics to support your answer. What do you believe to be the main messages in the song put across through the lyrics? the impact of the party or drug life is a very prevalent theme in Sides. The Lyrics “She just wanna go downtown when the sundown. Got a couple pills and it's cool 'til the comedown. And I brought the whole damn crew but it's alright. Living every day to the fullest, never switch sides” is a perfect way to describe party goer’s attitude towards life. The second theme is the appreciation of close friends through times of peril. This means when you are going through tough times someone always has your back. He says in the song that he keeps taking criticism and having people by your side helps with that. Friends and Family is your support in life and is an essential part of who you are 4. What do you believe was the main intention of the songwriter when writing this song? The message and themes in Sides are quite strong in what they mean. It’s about when people are by his side and helping him through tough times. This is when you are having difficulty dealing with something but someone close to you helps you to deal with that. 5. Who is the target audience? Explain your answer. The target audience is people in their late teens to early twenty’s. I believe this is the target audience because of the party lifestyle theme in the song. The reason Allday is an artist popular among younger people is most his songs have millennial thoughts and ideas which appeal to a teenage audience. Having a teenage audience is probably the best audience to have as they listen to music nonstop and have to keep buying music
