Why Golf Is a Sport Essay

Almost everyone has heard of the sport where you hit a little white ball around on the green grass. Golf can be a difficult sport if proper techniques are not taken into consideration. In order to play golf properly, first equipment is needed especially a driver, irons, and a putter. As a beginner golfer, the most helpful tips are to keep their eye on the ball and light grip pressure, Hand-eye coordination is key. Next step in learning to be good, the proper swing plane and the transition will create a great swing. If a golfer follows all these tips and procedures, they will become a better golf and lower their handicap.

The sport that I have dedicated the most time to, golf, has become a part of me—in my soul. To me, golf is more than a sport; it is a lifelong journey of training to temper myself both mentally and physically. Playing golf opens my eyes to observe the world in a unique way, and it lets me taste the bliss of striving. The Georgia State Golf Championship in my sophomore year was one of the most memorable experiences that influenced me, not only by contributing to my interest in golf, but also by building my character and teaching me life lessons. It did not push me to the road of being a professional golfer, but it instilled the spirits of a golfer within me.

Out of all the vast variety of sports there are, baseball is the most challenging and difficult sport to play. No other sport compares to the degree of difficulty that you have to deal with, like you do in playing the game of baseball. There are so many different elements that make this game the most difficult. Three major elements stick out in my mind as to why this wonderful sport is the toughest of all. The three main factors in my mind are the increased physical and hand eye coordination component, the mental aspect of this game, and the human interdependence between umpires, which are a vital part in every play.

Imagine the sun bursting through the trees for the first time of the new day, the smell of freshly cut grass still potent to your nose as you tee the ball up for a round of golf in the cool mist of a spring morning. "That is what brings you back every time, the smell of the air, the coolness of the whether and the beautiful surroundings that make every shot enjoyable." (Suess, PI) This is the game of golf in its finest and most exquisite time to many people and many people it has touched in its long history. Golf is a lifestyle and not just games to people that are avid in playing. The game of golf has a history that is rich in technological advances and personal accomplishments, which through time has shown to shape

Sports have been apart of society since the beginning of written history. Sports have also been separated in genders for centuries due to the physical and mental uniqueness of both genders. People take pride in sports. In some families and to communities sports are imbedded in their social infrastructure; it is very important to their identities. Sports are very tradition based seasonal, rules, and even attire. This has made rituals in sports very easy to pass down from generation to generation. Even though times and society has changed rules, traditions, and conservative individuals have not. There is one particular case in the world of golf that illustrates this point perfectly.

Indubitably, it helps me relax and unwind, as I go to the next Tee after five days of grueling high school studies, yet it also perfects my thinking; gives it a scientific direction. I use my knowledge of Newton’s Laws of Motion, Kinematics, friction and physics to play winning games. I am proud of the fact that I used my scientific knowledge, hit precision shots; won Under-18

One of the activities on the list that I thought was the furthest thing from a sport was Pigeon Racing. Even though I believed Pigeon racing to have incorporated many of the key components of a sport such as competition, a governing bodies, benefits, and strategy; it fails to meet the other requirements. One requirement that is not met is maintaining a certain level of physical and mental activity. In this particular sport the performer is completely dependent upon the pigeon to compete. By doing so this completely removes an athlete from the sport and eliminates any human chance in affecting the overall outcome. Instead of a sport I would categorize this as a recreational activity that is fun to watch and be involved in. I believe that an activity that relies solely on an animal performance cannot be considered to be a true sport.

When people here the word ‘golf’ they often correlate it with a misleading sense of boring, elderly men and women who have nothing better to do. Believe it or not, there is a broader reason why so many retirees indulge in the golf lifestyle. Yes, golf is a lifestyle, not just a sport. Many people, most of whom know absolutely nothing about the sport, do not realize that playing golf regularly can add five years to their life span and also have many other well-being-related benefits (“Health” par. 5). Golf is a great therapeutic activity because it teaches good etiquette, it enriches the mind, and it provides for a healthy lifestyle.

Fourteen clubs - four wedges, six irons, a rescue, a three wood, a driver, and a putter - this is golf. It is one of the most mentally challenging sports in the world. It can fool beginners who are deceived by its simplicity. Golf is often underestimated by those who have never attempted to play the sport. While it has often been known as a “rich man’s” sport, in recent years this perception has begun to change. There are a number of other generalizations made when talking about golf, yet these are most always from those who have never experienced, played, or followed the game. One should question how a critic with no knowledge of the activity could state whether or not golf should be considered a sport. Golf is a sport, regardless of what any critic has to say. Studies and experimentation, along with the experience itself, reveal all of the athletic aspects that make golf better than most sports.

In the past, before I started competitive golf I had a small group of friends. Being introduced to competitive golf allowed me to develop more friendships that I would not have had if I did not compete. Because I started high school golf I’ve developed many relationships that will last past high school many with a lot of my teammates, my future teammates and also with the girls I have been able to play with in my past tournaments. As a result to starting competitive golf, it introduced me to many different people that I would have never met if I did not compete. Some of the people we connected through social media and still keep up with each other today.

First I would like to say, that to many people, even the word golf sounds boring. I do admit, that I have thought that at times. Still, try to trust me. Golf can actually be a fun and rewarding sport. Here is why you should give golf an honest effort to see if you like it for yourself.

Golf is a very fascinating game that I absolutely love to play in my free time. There are so many rules and interesting parts of golf. The first thing that you will need is the right equipment. You can’t just play golf in jeans and use anything-You will need golf clothing that is appropriate for the game. For girls, you could play in skirts, shorts or pants that are made for golfing, like khakis. For a shirt, you could wear a golf shirt, a polo or like a t shirt depending how official you would like to look. For shoes, you can wear tennis shoes or you could wear golf shoes with little spikes at the bottom. You also need a set of clubs which is usually 14 clubs or less including a putter, irons, wedges and drivers. You will also need tees and

Arnold Palmer said it best. “Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect.” The straightforward yet difficult facet has always drawn me to the sport. Golf has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and I love all aspects about it: the competitiveness, the focus required, the life lessons, and the bonding it can create. The game of golf is my passion.

“Sports are for fun, but they also offer benefits and lessons that carry over into all aspects of life”. This well-known anonymous quotation conveys the message that sport is the game which has some rules and custom. It is not only for fun and entertainment, but there are also some benefits of playing sports and which gives some important lessons for life. Every kind of physical sports is healthy because it involves running, jumping, stretching, mind skills and much more. There are so many sports available in the world nowadays, but we can categorize them by the numbers of players, the three main categories are individual sport, dual sport and team sport.
