Music is a universal language spoken by every living thing. It has the power to bring people together and can even dictate your life. Music brings people together because it makes us social, can control our emotions, and can even help our cooperation within a group setting.
Why is singing such a powerful social glue? Most of us hear music from the moment we are born, often via lullabies, and through many of the most important occasions in our lives, from graduations to weddings to funerals. There is something about music that seems to bring us closer to each other and assist us coming together as a community. There’s little question that humans are wired for music. Researchers recently discovered that we have a dedicated part of our brain for processing music, supporting the theory that it has a special, important function in our lives.

In one study, researchers found that performing music—through singing, drumming, and dancing—all resulted in participants having higher pain thresholds (a proxy measure for increased endorphin release in the brain) in comparison to listening to music alone. In another study, researchers compared the effects of singing together in a small choir (20-80 people) versus a larger choir (232 people) on measures of closeness and on pain thresholds. The researchers found that both choir groups increased their pain threshold levels after singing; however, the larger group experienced bigger changes in social closeness after singing than the smaller group. This suggested to the researchers that endorphins produced in singing can act to draw large groups together

Music is undoubtedly one of the most influential art forms on the planet. Music is essential to the lives of many people all over the world. People listen to music when they wake up, on their way to work, with friends, and even when they are alone. For many people music is like a constant companion. Music can bring feelings of joy and motivation and accompany people in difficult times.
Music connects all the communities of my life, ranging from the exuberant, fast-paced tempo of Bollywood and Bhangra music to melodic harmonies while singing acapella tags. As a child, music ruled my life as I learned how to read, speak, and count numerical values. Singing in the car and singing along with songs helped me develop my ability to articulate and understand language.
Music has been known to unify performers, as well as audience members. Different elements of a performance bring these groups together, although the groups are brought together in similar ways. The performers are brought together through the many hours put into each performance and song writing, but the audience members grow closer together through the different gatherings and social events and performances. Overall, these two groups of people are seen to grow closer and closer together as time has progressed.
Music is defined differently for each individual. It is the universal language that speaks to us all, but in different ways. It is one of the few genres that can instantly transport a person back to the past. Music is also an art of sound which expresses ideas, thoughts, and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, and harmony. It is the design of giving structural form and rhythmic pattern to combinations of sounds produce instrumentally and vocally. To me, music brings a sense of calmness, happiness, and peacefulness. Music is the absolute bread of life because it feeds my soul.
Music; Indefinable by words alone. It is not only something you can hear but what you can feel. It is something your soul is able to reach out and touch. Music also has the power to bring us as humans, together. It is one language spoken by all cultures, sexes, races, age and religions. Music also controls our emotions; it makes us happy, sad, angry, relaxed, etc. We also can express ourselves through music. Music is a huge part of our everyday life. Many people don’t realize that music plays a significant role in in the way it affects the human brain. It connects and helps us share experiences with loved ones, friends, and random acquaintances. The variety of genres lets us explore the different emotions as we listen to specific songs, whether or not its pop, hip-hop/ rap, indie, country, rock/ heavy & death metal, classical, dance, jazz, blues, soul, reggae, and opera. Psychologists seem to believe the answer lies within the rhythm, tone, lyrics, and melody of the music. A great and inspiring songwriter/ vocalist, Mitch Lucker, said, “Keep listening to music, cause it gets you through everything. I promise.” My question is, why do people turn to music rather than friends or family? Considering this, what is it about music that helps us through difficult obstacles in life? According to many psychologist music can affect mood, health, mind, and learning ability.
With this in mind, what is music? How do people use music to communicate? Well, music is a form of art, also an expression of emotions through harmonic sounds. Previous studies suggested that music is a universal language. Many scholars agree with this statement. Music is a secondary language that communicates in a physical language. It is certainly a form of communication that connects cultures, links a person’s expressions, and in the same fashion allows individuals to release their emotions.
Music elicits an emotional and cognitive response in all who listen to it. It is powerful at the individual level because “it can induce multiple responses – physiological, movement, mood, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral” (Francis, 2008,
