Given the free will and opportunity we have to learn about education, why are students driven to attend school? Schooling comes with financial difficulties, self-esteem issues from grades, stress that feels like it would last a lifetime from studying, teachers that show little or no support for their students for what they are academically capable of due to their disabilities or ethnicity, and learning about subjects that we cannot keep our eyes open for more than a few minutes. People can make a decent amount of money by having certain life skills that are resourceful in reality, so the question that students ask themselves,“Why do we have to further our education by going to school?” Despite of the flawed system, schools have the potential to guide students in helping them achieve their goals and ambitions by traditional schooling.

Education has always been an important part of our sustainable society in which everyone plays a role. The purpose of the education system is to provide a way for students to learn and gain knowledge. The current education system focuses more on evaluations rather than teaching, which creates a stressful and unpleasant high school experience. Alfie Kohn’s essay, How Not to Get into College: The Preoccupation with Preparation describes the difficulties and purposeless school practices students face when preparing themselves for life beyond high school.

In “The Shock of Education: How College Corrupts” Alfred Lubrano uses his personal experience with college education and his parents to come up with the statement that “Every bit of learning takes you further from your parents". In his writing, he goes over how his eyes were first opened to the idea that school could bring you further from your parents, when he read a book titled “Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard Rodriguez”, where the writer was quoted as saying “Home life is in the now, school life exists on an altogether different lane, with an eye towards the future.” Alfred’s belief throughout his article is that school brings you to a reality that separates and distances you from your parents and home-life.

The way Rose is able to make so many students of today’s day and age relate to what he has written is praiseworthy. Especially, considering the time frame in which it was written. It’s almost shocking that there are still so many of these exact problems today. There are so many people out there today who are educationally underprepared.

It touches on why school is important and drives home the fact by giving a clear visual of what happens in societies where education is not emphasized. It also reminds students that we take school for granted because we do not have to struggle to get into and remain in school. While at the same time, proving that hard work and dedication can get you out of tricky situations. Lastly, it helps clarify that just because one group claims something is true, does not necessarily make it true. Since the first day of kindergarten my father has always said, “ Having a strong education is one of the most important opportunities you’ll receive in life.” I have heard this same quote over and over again for 21 years. I didn’t really think about what he meant by it until my senior year of high school. I was sitting in homeroom the first day of senior year asking myself, “What is so important about getting a good education?” I didn’t really get the answer to the question until my freshman year of college. After I graduated high school I was able to see the kids who really cared where they went in life and the ones who didn’t. I thought about the kids, who dropped out of college after the first semester and went home to work at McDonalds.

The dreaded sound of the alarm goes off as the sun is barely peeking over the horizon; it’s time for school. Students no longer have a chance of exploring their intelligence on their own, they only have what the school decides to teach them. Education has been a very controversial issue over the years and has been becoming an increasing topic for discussion. Many people will say a formal education is the only way to get anywhere in life while others claim that with soaring college prices, the education might not actually be worth it. Molly Knefel, author of “Incarceration vs. Education,” stated in her article “Americans believe that education is the great equalizer, the key that opens the door to a better future.” A proper education is vital in order to become successful in life. However, this education does not have to be in a formal setting such as high school or college. Knowledge is everywhere and life is filled with lessons we try to grasp as we try and fail during our teen years. It is important to try many things because this is what teaches us our valuable life lessons. It is also crucial that we remind ourselves we are in charge of our own success and we take the responsibility to educate ourselves. Through all of this we must remember that failure is inevitable and we must think of this failure as a lesson rather than a downfall.

In the video “Hey School, WAKE UP!” produced by Jon Jorgenson clarifies the corruption of a sixteen year process that leaves people in debt with a mindful of useless facts, the process of schooling. He suggests that school should be a resource to enlighten the minds of upcoming generations and prepare them for the real world instead of making the students average through standardized tests and loan payments. School should be a place where people find who they are and who they want to become so they can reach their full potential. That, as Jorgensen believes, is the real reason for school. School is for both the teachers and the students to achieve breakthroughs within their work, and for them to support each other. Jorgenson also suggests that

School is not only a decision, it 's the start of a deep rooted voyage, one that will shape and decide future decisions, choices and purposes. Is school truly justified, despite all the trouble? In today’s world a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather a necessity. This is an inquiry numerous understudies begin to ask as the school expense builds and occupations are harder to get. Many people in our society view higher education as an investment that will pay off in the long run but many others would tell you that you are just wasting time and money.
