Yanagi Soetsu defines crafts as “things made to be used by people in daily life” that have a “beauty born of use” (Soetsu). At first glance, this definition seems to remove most mediums of art from the set of crafts, as often art has no use outside of beauty; Soetsu implies that all crafts are art, but not all arts are craft. I believe that, despite typically being considered an art, photography, specifically wildlife photography, fits Soetsu’s definition of a craft. Wildlife photography from the viewers perspective is simply pictures of animals in their natural habitat.
