World War I was a tragic episode in European history. As with most wars, there were some causes that led to this event. A few of these causes were militarism, alliances, and imperialism. The first spark of the war was on June 28, 1914 when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated by a Serbian nationalist group called the Black Hand. The Austrian leaders demanded an apology from Serbia, they got upset and Russia said they would help Serbia. With no apology and the threat of Russia, on June 28 Austria-Hungary declared war on them; Russia in return declared war on Austria-Hungary. Germany declared war on Russia, France on both Germany and Austria-Hungary. Finally Britain had joined France and Russia, then all of Europe was at war.

The war would end in the fall of 1918 after 4 years of fighting. Concluding the war the German, Russian, Austria-Hungry and Ottoman Empires would be left. The after effects of

In these four years alone nearly 9 million people died and millions more were maimed, crippled, grief stricken, or psychologically scarred, World War I is considered by many historians, the first man-made catastrophe of the twentieth century.There are many things that contributed to the war these causes were militarism, alliances, imperialism, and na's attempt to normalcy to be a challenge.

A european war in which an alliance including Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United states defeated the alliance of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey, and Bulgaria. It was believed that the fighting would be over quickly but sadly the war lasted 4 years (from August 1st, 1914 to November 11th, 1918. It soon became clear that the fighting would continue for a long time and that it would result in massive casualties. Although the United States attempted to avoid involvement in the war. Finally by 1917 they joined the Allied Powers.

The United States of America stayed neutral at the beginning of World War I because the US was a weak country with a weak military. Austria-Hungary was a part of the Central Powers and Serbia was a part of the Allied Powers.Some people thought that the US should not enter World War I because the US would lose more people in the war than the US would if the US stayed neutral but, others thought that the US should enter the war because the US needed to defend themselves. It was necessary for the US to enter World War I because of Unrestricted Submarine Warfare and The Zimmerman Note.

The Archduke of Austria-Hungary was shot and killed in his own vehicle, which sparked war between Russia and Germany and the alliances that went along with it. The Allies consisted of France, Great Britain, Russia, The United States and Italy, while The Central Powers consisted of Austria-Hungary, Germany the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. The underlying cause of World War I consisted of three reasons, Militarism and Alliances as well as Imperialism being the most important.

World War I pitted the Central Powers mainly Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey against the Allies mainly France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan, and eventually the United States in 1917. It ended with the defeat of the Central Powers and a ridiculous amount of slaughter, and destruction.
